Fantastic, easy locale near it all!

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Emerson Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55405, United States

The Space

According to the folks at walk score this is a "walker's paradise" at 91 out of 100. Simple, well appointed, spacious 600 sq ft, one bedroom apartment with your own entry, in a host occupied building in one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Minneapolis or St. Paul.

Within minutes you can be at: farmer's market, Lake of the Isles, great restaurants, shopping in Uptown including Calhoun Square, the Walker Art Center, MCAD, Minneapolis Institute of Arts and a whole lot more. Hennepin Avenue is around the corner, and all the major bus lines stop by. If you are willing to walk, bike, bus or cab a bit further it's less than two miles to the edge of downtown Minneapolis. If you are interested in biking around, check out Nice Ride MN's website. The Twins stadium and University of MN are a short ride on public transportation, which is called Metro Transit. Check out their web site. Of course, St. Paul is just over the river, about 20 minutes to downtown from here via car.

Apartment is in a 1920's Spanish style building with hardwood floors, creaky sounds included, and charm. Great, safe, urban neighborhood, with easy access to i94, 394 and 35w. There is a full size bed in the bedroom. This is a real
comment from a recent guest:
"Your bed was more comfortable than the fancy St Paul Hotel!" I've slept in it, and actually I agree, it's great.

In the main living area, there's an outrageously comfy sofa, that more than one person has slept well on while not lounging about, and big desk space.

High thread count sheets and towels are provided. Mostly, I use environmentally friendly, low/no scent products for laundry and cleaning. The mini kitchen has hot plate - because the stove doesn't operate, toaster oven and mini-fridge. There is not a coffee maker. (Fantastic coffee shop options down the street, see guide book please.) Kitchen doubles as my art making space, so let's be honest, while it is really clean, one side of the space has a whole lot going on.

Coin laundry is available for $2.50 in quarters.
There is a hair dryer and iron for your use.

Consider this a bit of an urban retreat as there's no t.v. or stereo. There are french windows that open to the street, and birds singing. WiFi is available. Quiet, professional, clean and tended apartment with privacy. Host is in the unit above and available for welcoming.

Here is what my first official Air BnB guest has to say, "I really appreciate all you've done to make my stay here just what I was looking for! Your place is restful and feels very welcoming. I live in an older house, too, and this feels just like home. I love how it feels so part of the neighborhood, not locked away in a hotel's bubble of air conditioned separation."

Generally the space is available on weekends, sometimes as early as Thursday evening, until Monday or Tuesday late morning throughout the year. With enough planning ahead, I can be more flexible on when you check in and out, especially on Mondays.

  • Had a great long weekend at Mia's place while visiting family in Minneapolis in March. Her apt is clean, comfortable, and super-convenient. It's an easy walk to Hennepin Ave shops and restaurants (and buses) and only a mile or so to the restaurants of Eat Street and the MIA. The living room is a little sparsely furnished, but spacious and comfortable; and the kitchen was perfect for my purposes and not overrun with her art stuff at all. Bedroom can get a little chilly, but she provides lots of warm covers to snuggle under. Mia is a great hostess- since I was visiting family and had my own resources I didn't see her much, but she checked in by text periodically throughout my stay to make sure everything was going well and to see whether I needed anything. And I noticed that her list of restaurant recommendations agreed with my daughter's and with my list of favorites from previous visits to Mpls!

    Response from Mia:

It was great to have you here Kathleen, you were a lovely guest. I do hope you felt at ease using the electric fireplace to take off the chill in your bedroom. Thanks for the confirmations of all the goodness here. Take care, and do feel welcome to return.

  • Mia's apartment was wonderful! When we arrived everything was clearly set up for us, and a packet with tons of information about Minneapolis was waiting for us. Everything was clean, cozy, and convenient. The location is within walking distance to a lot of great areas, and I couldn't recommend it more! Staying with Mia will definitely bring your trip to MN to the next level!

  • We had such a great stay at Mia's place over a long weekend this October. It was super clean, cozy, comfy and exactly what we needed for a three-day vacation. It was so lovely, in fact, that it ended up being where my fiancee proposed! Right there in the living room!

Mia left us with a ton of information about where to go, and her recommendations were bang on! We really enjoyed exploring the neighbourhoods around her house. Barbette, Bryant Lake Bowl, Tao's, French Meadow, plus the Walker and all the lakes...there are so many great spots within walking distance. Make sure to check out Minneapolis's bike system, too! The bikes are a really fun way to get downtown.

Mia was a great host. We were in touch frequently leading up to our stay, and she responded to all of my questions and concerns quickly. We would definitely stay here again, and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Yay! You are getting married. So happy to be part of it in a tiny way.
    Please return any time!

  • We had a fantastic stay with Mia! Mia gave us the warmest welcome for our first visit to Minneapolis, and the neighborhood and apartment are perfect. Just a few blocks from some of the most beautiful bike and run trails I've seen in a city! Make sure to check out a few of Mia's food recommendations while you're in town --there are so many fantastic places within walking distance. Thanks so much, Mia, we can't wait to return to Minneapolis one day.

  • Was the perfect place to reconnect with old friends in Minneapolis. Close to anything I needed and Mia was a fabulous host. If you forgot it... she probably could happily hook you up. My only regret is that I didn't take more time to hang out with her. ;) Definitely recommend this place if you want a clean, accommodating, quiet home base for awhile.

Thanks Mia! If you ever find yourself in Australia... let me know! xx

Funny thing, I have a similar regret--so let's cross paths again dear J.

  • I can not say enough good things about our stay at Mia's. The apartment was charming, clean, quiet - I felt like I was at home! The location couldn't have been better! We were in walking and biking distance of everything we wanted to do. Mia was quick to respond to emails and any questions we had to and her recommendations of restaurants and shops was great! We will definitely be coming back in the future. Also if your interested in biking there are a few rent a bike facilities in the area.

  • Mia's place is quiet and very comfortable - perfect for a lovely stay in MN! The best part - her neighborhood! Close to the lakes and a ton of great restaurants. Thank you MIA!

  • My husband and I were recently married and planned a road trip from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Denver, Colorado. Besides this we did not do much planning. We needed a place to stay in Minneapolis and Mia's was perfect. Quaint and situated close to neighborhood restaurants and shops, it was easy to get around and gave us a good feel for the city. I highly recommend staying with Mia. She was very accommodating on such short notice and gave great recommendations on places to eat. Thanks Mia!

  • Loved this comfortable apartment in a great location - close to healthy restaurants, the Wedge co op and bike paths. Mia was an excellent host, she had maps and took the time to find out our interests and made helpful suggestions. Great bed and neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again.

When I travel I love to stay in a real home, in a locals' neighborhood so that I get the sense that I live there. Lucky for me, I know amazing folks all over the world, and get to do this as often as I get my act together. It's not always the case that friends have space to host though, or something changes. That's how I ended up offering my work/live studio here. An old friend and her rock star husband were on their way to Minneapolis and couldn't find something last minute. When I learned they needed a place, I offered. My friend tells me it's Air B and B fantastic, and inspired me to extend the invitation to the larger community of good food loving, community minded, contemplatives out there. 5 good things that I rely on: * Buddhist meditation practice * kindness and good heartedness of others * green smoothies * lots of movement * being outdoors
