. . . Old Abe would have loved this woodsy retreat and so will you! We're about 12 minutes via freeway from Downtown Milwaukee and 5 minutes more to the SUMMERFEST grounds.
From the quiet comfort of our 4-bedroom Glendale home, explore the city or spend a morning reading on my deck in the woods, where you might catch sight of a fawn dashing through the back yard. I'm a long-time Milwaukeean, a former newspaper person who enjoys sharing my city and my home. Please take a minute to message me before booking a date. I'd like to know where you're from and why you're coming to Milwaukee. I'll be happy to answer questions about the calendar, neighborhood, and transportation issues, should you need a ride from the airport.
During your visit, you’ll be the only residents of the totally private first-floor guest wing in a modern home that's centered around a shared Great Room -- bright, airy and bursting with good energy. Enjoy the comfort of a queen bed with crisp linens, central AC plus a bedroom ceiling fan, bedside reading lamps, full-length mirror, high-speed wireless, and multiple outlets for charging your electronics. Unpack your stuff into dressers and closet (4x6 foot walk-in) or use the little church pew next to your bed as a luggage rack. Room-darkening shades will allow you to sleep in if you like. Your bathroom, within the private guest-wing, has plenty of counter space, basic toiletries for your convenience, and a shower stall.
For breakfast, I provide a selection of healthy "basics," including coffee, tea, cereal, toast, fresh fruit and nuts, and yogurt. Take a tray outdoors to enjoy the secluded deck or dine inside. (I'm happy to store your restaurant leftovers in our fridge, but I don’t offer use of the kitchen for cooking.)
I live on a busy boulevard, but you won’t see or hear the street from the house because it's set back off the road, adjacent to a densely wooded area. A very quiet retreat! My favorite dining spot in the neighborhood is my deck, but there are two hometown restaurants within a 5-minute walk of the house, one a historic roadhouse with a popular bar and casual dining; the other a neighborhood café that serves tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Park your car in the driveway or in the adjacent free lot. If you're car-less, I may be able to assist with rides to your downtown conference or the airport, for a small additional fee. Public transportation is sparse in my immediate area, but city buses depart regularly from nearby Bay Shore Mall, just a 5-minute drive from my house. If you're headed downtown for SUMMERFEST, there's a free park'n'ride lot across from the mall.
NOTE: My listing shows a 2-night minimum because of time involved in preparing the guest suite. If you need one night only, please ask. There may be an easy compromise involving a special price -- slightly higher -- for a one-day guest.
We went to Milwaukee for the 110th Anniversary of Harley Davidson. Staying at Barb's house was a very pleasant surprise. Barb is a wonderful host, kind, helpful, friendly, and very welcoming. She provided good recommendations for sightseeing and restaurants.
Her home is beautiful, well located, clean and comfortable.
I recommend Barb's place.
Thanks again Barb, wish you the best.
What a pleasure staying with (website hidden) her amazing house ! She was most welcoming and very charming. Ideal location. Very restful but close to downtown. She had a weath of knowledge about the area. I will stay here again when I come back to the area...
Barb is a lovely, friendly person to talk to, and the house is very clean and nicely decorated. The bed is very comfy and Barb thought of many welcoming and convenient details for a weary traveler. Everything was exactly as you see in the site photos.
It is right directly across the street from a beautiful large park with walking/running paths, an archery range, and a beautiful little dammed rapids that once was the site of a historic flour/ lumber mill.
We definitely intend to come back again!
Staying with Barb in Glendale, Milwaukee was an absolute treat!!! Barb is a very welcoming host and made us feel at home and comfortable in her beautiful home! We very much enjoyed the privacy of our suite. The bed is super comfortable and the rooms are very clean and tastefully decorated. The huge walk-in closest is an extra bonus. We very much enjoyed the peaceful, quiet deck and very yummy breakfasts! Barb was also very helpful in providing directions and recommendations for local stores, events and restaurants. I highly recommend Barb's place!
Barb is a great host. Very kind. Very helpful. And puts together a lovely breakfast.
The room is in her home but in a separate wing so I really had lots of privacy and quiet.
It's in the heart of Milwaukee but when you sit on her back deck (which I encourage you do when you have some leisurely hours) you are surrounded with lots of green life and it feels for moments like you may be out in the country.
Thanks for everything Barb. Best to you.
My partner Barb and I enjoyed staying at Barb's place as a base for visiting my brother in Fox Point and to do other sightseeing in Milwaukee. They offer a private suite with a very comfortable bed, a separate bathroom and many other amenities. Their home is beautiful with an outdoor patio and all windows surrounded by nature. Their taste in art is also very evident. And there are walking trails in the park just across the street along the Milwaukee River. We would recommend their place to future travelers to the Milwaukee area with no hesitation.
Barb was very accommodating and friendly. Barb's place is quiet, clean, and comfortable. We were able to come and go as needed and enjoyed sitting out on her patio.
I would recommend her place to others looking for a clean, quiet, and comfortable place to stay.
Barb is an easygoing host. Easy to engage, helpful, and full of knowledge about her city. Her guest suite is a spacious accommodation with privacy and a comfortable bed.
Barb's art-filled, clean home was welcoming. Lots of thoughtful design elements: a bench by the guest suite to take off boots or shoes, thick towels in a big basket in the bathroom, a water carafe in the bedroom and Ghiardelli chocolates.
The bed is super comfortable and the blinds darkened the room (a key thing my husband looks for) so we had a great night's sleep.
Breakfast wasn't basic or over-the-top but just right. Barb had made banana bread and had ripe pears, local sour cherries to mix in the Greek youghourt along with other fixings. She emailed us ahead of ahead of time to check beverage preferences and what we like to eat -- very considerate.
Barb and Damien were friendly, open and interesting conversationalists. We would definately stay here again when vistiting Milwaukee.
Barb's home is quiet, very comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The bed is super comfy and Barb makes sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay. I particularly liked a stocked cabinet of toiletries in the bathroom since my toothpaste was confiscated at the airport - those rotten scoundrels!
If you like reading, enjoy art or music you will definitely enjoy staying here and meeting Barb and Damien who are writers. The house had a distinctive mental coherence, I found, that was conducive to clear thinking which obviously reflected the hosts.
