This is a brilliant hotel, on the west coast of Ischia, within walikng distance of sandy beaches, but away from the bustle of the town of Forio. The D'Ambra family are ideal hosts and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable, and do so discretely. This is a hotel, but very family oriented, and staffed by people who clearly love their work. The botanic garden lives up to its expectations, and is even more beautiful than the pictures suggest. You can spend hours walking round it. Breakfast in the café surrounded by fabulous cactii, jazz playing softly, and a peacock family wandering through, is a wonderful experience. We had a single room with kitchen and private terrace which was ideal for our couple and 12-year old. Spotlessly clean, with a comfy divan bed (double with the pull-out) for our son. The pool and thermal spa are great for days when you don't feel like going anywhere, or early morning or evening sessions: we thought we'd be up and out every day, but we actually spent at least half our time lazing on the terrace, or by the pool. The pictures posted on the site are not as good as the real thing. There are a number of sun terraces with great views, where we ate in the evenings watching the sun set. Great massage and treatment centre too, and they do a full meal every Friday evening, which was superb. For the ultimately lazy, you can get delicious chicken and veg, or rabbit, in the bar on the other side of the road; or pizzas delivered to your room from Forio. We did both, so we ended up only cooking once. The collect service they offer from the airport is a no-brainer: we paid 120 euros, which included the taxis and ferry service, and it's door to door with no bag hassle at all. The west side of the island gives easy access to sandy beaches (Sant'Angelo is a bus ride away, the others can be reached on foot) and the mountain (steep climb, but worth it). We also spent a day at the thermal spa Negombo (1/2h bus or taxi ride away): get there early and stay till closing, even with kids it's really worthwhile. The town of Forio is interesting enough, with a good enough choice of shops. The capital Ischia has more, but we were content with the smaller scale on the west of the island.
This is one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had, and we will definitely return. A great place to resource yourself. You can contact them via (website hidden) , and Luca (one of the sons) speaks good English , and is incredibly helpful.
We had a great stay at Luca's wonderful family hotel. Our favorite things about the place: the gorgeous views (we watched the sunset nightly); Luca's knowledge and advice on what to do on the island - he really went out of his way to make our stay memorable and also helped us get to and from the location; the peacocks roaming the garden; and the beautiful pool and awesome thermal bath. Our room was great too - it had a cute garden balcony and a small kitchen for us to cook breakfast each morning. The location is up on a hill a bit with gorgeous views of the island; the beach is about a 12 minute walk and downtown Forio about a 15-20 min walk. We did it many times and didn't have a problem.
One thing I'd note - air conditioning isn't included, but you can purchase it for 5 euros extra a night and I'd highly recommend just planning on getting it every night. We tried to do without it the first couple nights, and slept with the doors open...but its noisy and we were still hot. Once we paid for the AC we slept great, so I'd just recommend that from the beginning! Also, the internet didn't work in our room, but we could access it easily from the common areas.
Overall, we had a great stay and we'd certainly come again! Thanks Luca!
My husband and I found this listing and thought it would be a great place to relax for our honeymoon based on the description. Well, I must say it exceeded our expectations in every way. First, to be on the island of Ischia itself is a truly amazing thing coupled with the warm hospitality of Edith and Luca, and the rest of the staff, we didn't want to leave. Edith most graciously picked us up from the ferry port and waited while my husband picked up some local produce from the market. Once we arrived we were bowled over by the beauty. We loved that we could take a dip in the thermal baths every morning after an amazing breakfast in the succulents garden, lounge by the pool or have an easy 20 minute stroll into the town of Forio for drinks and food shopping. They were very helpful with info for getting around the rest of the island and often times went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The succulence garden that many people come to visit is a site to be seen with 2 peacocks milling about as well as cute little bunnies everywhere. Ravino is a true oasis with a lovely family feel to it. We cannot wait to return!

About the Host, Luca
This are the owner of Villa Ravino: Peppe and Edith.
I'm Luca the son, who's in charge of the Net.
They started ca. 40 years ago renting 2 small apartments. Edith, while growing me and my brother, runs this small lodge by cleaning and renting the apartments. My Dad "Peppe" was schipping around the world with Cargos before married and have allways had a big passion for succulents plants.
The lodge Villa Ravino has grown to 12 Apartments and the land around the property was destinated to grown up a small botanical garden, ofcourse specialised in Succulents plants.
A dream comes true for this couple.
A simple and practical self catering villa where individual travellers or small groups enjoy their stay; next to the villa, by 2006, opened an extravagant botanical garden with one of the widest and richest succulent plants collection in Europe.
Ischia Island has allways been known as a Thermal destinations since the Greeks.
But it's not all, there are not so many places around the world where history, culture, tradition, sea, nature and thermal springs fuse it self on a land sourrounded by the sea.
On the other side you reach on daily trip the entire Amalfi coast, Ponpeii, Vesuvio voulcain and Capri Island.
