For an authentic OJAI VISIT, feeling as though you live here, come enjoy our home. We open our home to you. No locks on the front door. If you even wondered how it feels to really live in the country here is your chance.
This room is lovely. Furnished in antiques. Cool. Air conditioned. Private bathroom. Share kitchen and living room and outside amenities. 3 Miles from midtown Ojai. 1 mile to hiking trail head. Local hot springs 15 minute drive away. Grocery 2 miles. There are dogs on premises so you can't be allergic, although they do not go into the room. No smoking inside house. Quiet property. Can easily sleep in very late. No need for early check out. Just by about 1:00 p.m. If no one else is arriving then it can be later. We can discuss this a day before your arrival if you are trying to plan around your departure.
The streets here are quiet and dark at night. I walk my dogs every night off leash if that gives you an idea. There is internet and cable. Our environment is very casual. We pick up behind ourselves but are not neat freaks. The room does not have a television with cable per say, but it does have a nice 32 inch monitor hooked up with all internet amenities and a nice sound system to lay back in bed and watch netflix or listen to pandora.
Recently we bought a "human touch" massage chair. Look up
(website hidden). This is the exact chair. You are going to love it! I had planned to put it in my own bedroom and then I realized how nice it would be for guests to enjoy so it is in the room with you.
We can leave you entirely alone or you can socialize with us. We love barbecue and tri-tip and watching movies on the big screen in the living room.
THIS IS IMPORTANT for DOG OWNERS: We have dogs. Several of them. They are our kids and they are their own pack. We have had guests with dogs several times successfully. However, I do request that you let me know about your dog before arriving. Sometimes personalities of dogs clash. I don't want any fights. Your dog needs to be up on vaccines including kennel cough. I often have very young puppies in the house that could get sick from another adult un-vaccinated dog. WE need to be smart. Also, if you are planning on leaving your dog in our house while going out there needs to be a discussion about compensation. I am not a boarding home. I love all animals and would happily walk and feed your dog, but I want to know ahead of time that this will be the case. If you have a male dog that lifts his leg to mark new territories like my house, please purchase a "belly band" before arrival. See this link: (website hidden)(phone number hidden)/Dog-Housetraining-and-Incontinence.aspx.
Please don't just show up with a dog. Thanks for your consideration on this matter.
We are easy to talk too. Send a message through this system with your questions. I get them as text messages on my phone and will get back very promptly. Also, if you do book the room, for your own good, once booked you will have my phone number. I would love a call the day before letting me know your arrival time. Or, you can text me. But please make a connection with me the day before.
Thanks for your consideration of our room. We love our home and welcome you into it.
Guests have their own room, and bathroom and the kitchen too! We keep our dogs gated out of these areas. You can share in our living space too but the dogs will want to be near you then.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy interaction with our guests. They come into our home and we so much enjoy knowing just a little something. I think some guests don't realize that we are exposing ourselves entirely by bringing them into our home. It feels more equal if we can get a feel for who is sleeping in our house.
It is peaceful here. NO street lights. We have a bed outside in the back yard where you can lie down and count starts while you drink your own wine or I can make you tea.
You need a car. But you can borrow a bicycle. We are 3 miles from town.
Other Things to Note
It is so safe here we don't have a front door key or lock. Taking walks late at night is a favorite around this neighborhood.
Please just treat us the way you would like to be treated if strangers entered your home. We are quite easy going. Respect the common area by picking up after yourself, mostly dishes in the kitchen.
This is the second time I have stayed with Marika and Todd, and it was just as lovely as the first time! Marika had the bedroom beautifully decorated and the bathroom is fascinating with all sorts of artistic touches. She had the room ready with fresh water, coconut water and mixed nuts on top of the little refrigerator. The bed is super comfy with lots of pillows. The dogs are total bundles of energy and very entertaining. There is a screen to watch internet movies and she offered to lend us a a DVD that we did want to see, but we were so busy with other things we never had a chance! Ojai itself is an amazing place and i hope to go back soon!
Markika is a warm welcoming person. The room was lovely; the dogs cute; and the accomodations as described
Lovely place and host. Room and very close hall bathroom are nicely appointed with quality furnishings and art. A bedside computer with a foot side monitor has Pandora and Netflix. Computer speakers with a sub-woofer fill the room gently with sound as we lit available candles. We viewed the beautiful night sky for 30 minutes from a twin bed that is set up with pillows and blankets in an open area in the backyard. We were greeted by Marika in the front yard and a friendly family of French bulldogs as we entered her home. In the morning Marika made us a nice cup of coffee that we enjoyed as we toured her home with her and her warm company. We will keep this place on our best list.
Marika was a great host and was very laid back. She even made special accommodations for us by allowing us to come later than check in time. Unfortunately i didn't get to meet Todd but Marika was amazing. I felt completely comfortable staying at their place and she gave my boyfriend and I great suggestions on things to do in Ojai. The room was very tidy and the bed was extremely comfortable. The house itself was really cool and I loved all the decorations from different parts of the world. The best part was the dogs, I love dogs and she also had puppies at the house and let us play with them. If you're not okay with dogs this house is not for you. It was a great experience overall and I look forward to coming back.
The room is just like in the pictures, beautiful and full of interesting art crafts. Marika is very friendly, and her dogs are just adorable. Marika doesn't mind to go above and beyond to make sure our stay is a unique experience. I don't think any hotel would treat you the same way. I look forward to coming back in the near future.
Very nice and friendly host. Todd was away but Marika is a warm and deep person. She received us well and was very helpful with tips as to good places to eat around town. She had 5 French bulldogs when we stayed with her, two of whom are very friendly towards people, but were pretty territorial towards our own dog and lunged at her a few times making her pretty freaked out. Marika had warned us that something like this could happen, so we were forewarned. In any case, not a big deal. The house is funky and filled to the brim with objects and artwork, paintings and sculpture. If you are looking for an authentic and folksy Ojai experience (which we were) this place is recommended. If you are looking for a quieter, more meditative, or more spartan experience you may want to look elsewhere. For us, it was a nice match. Comfy and very aromatic (in a good way) bed!
High quality art, Marika has a great eye, and the east end is a charmer! We loved meeting Marika, Todd was not there unfortunately. Marika went out of her way to make us feel comfortable, sharing her knowledge of Ojai and totally opening her home to us. Thank you Marika!
WE are an easy going couple. We live OUT THERE in the country of Ojai. Hotels around here go for 150 for a boring basic room. Ojai Valley inn in crazy expensive. We thought it would be a fun way to meet people and give an opportunity to travelers to feel the true Ojai. We used airbab on our recent trip to Costa Rica and loved the opportunities it gave us. We are animal lovers. Cats and dogs but not in your room. Of course not! There is a private garden area as well as the main yard. our place is not fancy, but cozy and lovely. If you don't like it we will give you half your money back. I will send you video ahead of time too. We can do facetime.
