About this listing
David and Angie's nineteenth century elegant Victorian house is located in a secret garden twenty minutes’ walk from the historic centre of Cork City, a European capital of culture, boasting an energetic artistic community.
The house itself has a welcoming atmosphere with beautifully decorated rooms in the period style, spacious and comfortably furnished.
Angie is an artist painter with a studio in the city while David a Chocolatier has his workshop studio in their garden. So while you sit, relax and listen to bird song within the walled garden after a day visiting sites, it's possible to indulge in a little chocolate tasting with a complimentary glass of wine.
In the morning before heading out for a day’s sightseeing, a hearty breakfast is served in the conservatory.
Both David and Angie are very informative about their city and will provide information on current arts events, historic attractions and good restaurants. It’s an ideal place for exploring the Cork region and neighbouring counties.Within walking distance from the Marquee for music events.
Hands on chocolate courses can be arranged where you can make truffles or your own personalised creations and learn the secrets of the chocolate world, can be arranged with prior notice.
No smoking in house
David and his spouse were very hospitable and made an effort to make our stay a pleasant one, which we are thankful for. Although we did not fully enjoyed our stay as this place is really old and not very well maintained. I saw a lot of cracks on the paint, floor was very creaky and crunchy. The only renovated was a bathroom, which was good and fresh. All the rest is quite old and really needs some refresh. Location is relatively close to city centre, but I was driving, so did not care much.
We spent 2 nights at David's in Cork. The house is surprising as it is like an 'artist house' with lots of things eveywhere' plus the 3 dogs. We were very well welcomed by David and Angie. The breakfast was great and the bedrooms and bathroom were good. They helped us with advice on what to see, where to eat, what was typical in Cork, etc. They offered tea or drinks when we came home in the evenings. We had a pleasant time with David and Angie.
David responded to my emails quickly and went out of his way to give us GREAT directions to his home. We arrived to the house late and a little frazzled. ( as driving on the left side of the road is stressful)
David called a restaurant and made reservation for us while we freshened up. Our room was so welcoming and allowed us to get a great nights sleep.
Nous avons été reçus de manière très amicale par David et Angie. Leur maison est chaleureuse et agréable. Nous avons eu en outre de très bons conseils sur les lieux à visiter et les restaurants de Cork.
Fantastic stay! The house is an enchanted place, a green oasis bathed in a delightful flavour of chocolate. David and Angie were absolutely amazing hosts. They know a lot about the Irish way of life and they did everything to give us the perfect experience during our stay at Cork. Thank you so much for your warm welcome and your hospitality. We had a great time and we hope to be back next time. Absolutely recommended!
We had a lovely time with David and Angie, we were well taken care of! The house is a living museum, lots of art and books to look at(and chocolates to eat...lol)!
You don't expect such a charming house and garden in this neighborhood, which is from a much later period. David and Angie are excellent hosts. Staying in their house and talking with them felt like a winning lottery ticket.
