THE SPACE: This treehouse-like, one-room studio is a sunny detached structure in our backyard, on the second floor above the garage. But fear not! We do not use the garage for parking, so no noisy door-opening will invade your quietude. And because it is a detached structure, you are ensured a private environment, shaded from neighbors and our own home by an old apple tree. Once upstairs, you can enjoy the view of Mt. Hood from your private deck, overlooking our urban farm: vegetable and herb garden, fruit trees and berry bushes, chickens, bunnies, and honey bees. A great place for your morning cup of coffee or an evening cocktail. The studio itself is one large room that sleeps up to four (one brand new queen-sized bed and one queen-sized sofa bed), a full kitchen, and cozy, bright bathroom with cast iron bathtub/shower. The kitchen and bath are brand new additions, added since we've moved in. The kitchen is equipped with utensils, dinnerware, basic appliances, and cookware; linens and towels are included; and though we don't have cable, there is a television available for DVDs, as well as high-speed wireless internet.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD: We are just a short walk east of Mount Tabor, a 190 acre public park and dormant volcano in southeast Portland - great for picnic-ers, birders, runners, concert-goers... this park has it all. We are also within walking distance of the fabulous Montavilla neighborhood, which includes a movie theater, coffee shop, and multiple boutiques, bars, and a number of excellent restaurants. Ask us for recommendations - we've tried them all! If coffee-drinking, beer-tasting, vintage-shopping, and people-watching are up your alley. a five-minute drive or short bike or bus ride gets you to the Hawthorne and Belmont neighborhoods. A 20 minute drive gets you to the Columbia Gorge, 60 minutes to wine tasting in the Willamette Valley, and 90 minutes to the beach!
US: We love this place! Jeff and Katie have lived in Portland for approximately ten years, transplanted from Alaska and Chicago, respectively. We live in the main house, a quaint 1888 Victorian, with our new little addition, Nina Clementine. We embrace the fact that your space is private, relaxing, and quiet... except for the occasional cluck of a chicken down below!
TRANSPORTATION: We are a 15-minute drive or a 45-minute train/bus ride six miles south of Portland International Airport. You then have a three block walk from the bus, which also will take you directly into downtown Portland and then on to NW Portland - a must-visit for first-timers! This neighborhood is wonderfully walkable and has great access to public transportation, so a car is absolutely not a necessity... however, the quiet neighborhood affords you plenty of street parking.
Jeff and Katy's studio was the perfect place to stay at during my first trip to Portland. Conveniently located and insanely charming, I would absolutely stay again. The Lesh's were friendly, nice and extremely accommodating when I needed to change my check in time due to flight delays. They even provided fresh eggs from their chickens! This was a perfect stay!
I needed a quiet place for a short getaway and it was a perfect spot for that! The listing is spot on! I was able to pick up my food for the few days and the eggs were perfect for a stay in breakfast the 2nd morning! Quiet, private and very close to transit and a great little neighborhood. The bus was 2-3 short blocks away, but if you stayed on it for 2 more stops either way,you could find a 2 great breakfast spots and the refurbished Avenue Theatre (4$ a show)that also has a reasonably priced, healthy menu (salad, local pizza)and is licensed to boot! All in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or stay again! The Lesh's were perfect hosts!
The Mt. Tabor studio is amazing! It is clean, spacious, well furbished and a perfect spot for an exploration of Portland. Jeff was very helpful when we arrived and we highly recommend his spot. It's beautifully decorated as well.
nice place, private, quiet and clean ... we loved the place !!!
My daughter and I were (website hidden). Tabor studio lived up to the Airbnb description. It is a cozy upstairs apartment comfortably accommodating two with a lovely view, with both a large bed and queen-size sofa bed - just right as a home base during my search for a place to move to in Portland.
This is within easy walking distance of the #15 bus line offering direct access to city center as well as Portland's marvelous trolley and Max public transport.
Nights were cool and damp, made pleasurable by both gas and electric space heaters and a good cuppa hot herbal tea not to mentiion a DVD of old Sherlock Holmes TV episodes and four films!
Host Jeff Lesh was very friendly and helpful.
We would wholeheartedly recommend Mt. Tabor studio with Mt. Hood view to others.
A beautiful space! The hosts have thought of every need a guest could have and more. There was even a blender! The studio was super clean, decorated tastefully, and included touches like Ninkasi beer in the fridge and nice toiletries in the bathroom. The hosts were helpful, friendly, and communicative. What a peaceful place to fall asleep with the swaying tree branches outside the window.
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at Jeff's place in Portland! It was quaint, quiet, clean, and wonderfully furnished. We would highly recommend it to anyone!
The Mt. Tabor Studio was a great place to stay. Conveniently located about 2 blocks from a bus that head right down Belmont into downtown. There is a corner store a short walk from the apartment where groceries can be picked up. Jeff and his family were extremely friendly and accommodating to any need. I would stay at this apartment again.
Our stay in Jeff's place was amazing! The studio was perfect for our little family, and our 5- and 2- year olds loved staying there. It was clean, well decorated and had all the amenities needed! The location is extremely convenient (we rented a car) and we loved the balcony view and the kids loved the chickens and bunnies!
The week we stayed saw about 4inches of snow fall in Portland with temperatures well below 20 deg (F), and apparently 'worst' in 27 years according to the news! That said, the studio was warm and cozy (we had the fireplace and heater going when in the place), and sitting on the counter in the morning looking out at Mt. Hood and the frozen landscape around was surprisingly therapeutic!
I'm guessing that due to the unprecedented weather, there were a couple cold-related issues, but it was very easy to contact Jeff, and he was very quick to respond and fix the issues.
Overall, the place was as advertised, and I fully agree with many of the reviews given. If i'm in Portland again, I definitely know where I'll be staying!
This spacious studio was perfect for a relaxing getaway. The little details like luxuriously soft rugs combined with casual but stylish decor made me feel pampered and right at home. Everything was spotless and well organized, the bed extremely comfortable. I loved the movie collection (including the entire old movie series of the Thin Man!), though I didn't end up watching anything. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful in spite of being close to fun things to do. Excellent hideaway!
