Description

The Space

Serene Oceanfront Surf Retreat.
Play all day.....then fall asleep to the sounds of the waves, awake to the crisp ocean air and beautiful views of the central coast of California.
Upscale neighborhood close to Capitola by the Sea. Breakfast included!

SHARED SPACE/HOSTED APT. Adults only. Not kid friendly. NO children or pets allowed in my space.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The city of Capitola is not allowing many of us responsible airbnb hosts to continue to offer affordable, friendly accommodations on a short term basis. I am very sad and disappointed that the city can't seem to work out a compromise that will allow in home hosting.
To that end I am attempting to re work my guest options.

Yes, I know you want to just book a weekend. I am looking at many possibilities to work out a viable solution. Perhaps I can offer my space as a writers, artist, surf, healing retreat.
I am in the process of evaluating all my options. And hope that we can stay in touch. I am on social media.

Before you book your stay review the listing description and my House Rules thoroughly to align your expectations regarding the accommodations.

I know there is a lot of info/text here but I have attempted to cover all the bases in this description of my unit, location and amenities so that you can make a wise choice.

PLEASE make an INQUIRY before making a pending reservation. I prefer that you communicate with me first so that you have up to the minute info about my space and we make sure that it is a good fit for you and your plans.

NO PIC + NO INFO = NO BOOKING.

You MUST have a profile filled out with information about yourself and a picture! This should be a picture of yourself- not your dog/cat/horse/hamster/beta fish, etc - and a filled out profile telling me a little bit more about yourself than just your name, otherwise I will not consider your reservation request.

This is a SHARED SPACE with a SHARED Bathroom. Me and my partner live here full time. We use the master bedroom, and guests use the Guest/ massage room. I do not rent out my master bedroom.

Quiet, serene, creative space at the beach.

I have ONE guest room with ONE full size bed, and I can put up the queen airbed for additional people. The full size bed is a regular bed and I only put up the airbed when I have a special request for it. I also just purchased a tri fold sleeping mat.

Two new wave storm foam surfboards for your use.

READ THIS BEFORE INQUIRY!!
If you are new to Airbnb please take the time to fill out your profile with some information about yourself other than your name, upload a photo and work on getting your verification. I will need a cell phone number for you and your traveling companion.

My rules state that only approved registered guests/visitors are allowed access to my space and others will be considered trespassing and the authorities will be notified. You and your unregistered person will be asked to leave immediately. I do not rent my place by the hour, so don't even ask!

Tell me a little about yourself. I will also need to know the ages of everyone in your party and the purpose of your visit.
The more info you can supply, the easier it will be for me to approve your reservation request.

You must be able to climb stairs...there is no working elevator in the building. I am the top unit of a two story building. Once again, this is a shared apt. Most of the time I am home and living in the apt, and I sleep in the master bedroom. You have use of the private guest bedroom, however we DO share a full bathroom.

APARTMENT INFO:
THIS IS A SHARED APT. You are renting my guest room, not the whole apt and not my master bedroom. You will be staying in my guest room - the first room to the left once you are in the apt.
You are welcome to use the living room, dining room, kitchen.
I and/or my partner/co-host use MASTER BEDROOM and you have use of the guest room. We also share the bathroom.

Modern, funky, eclectic apartment overlooking the ocean and Capitola Village. Surf and beach decor mixed with 1950's furniture, art, photography, books and collectibles. This is an average sized apt.
My unit is probably close to 800-900 sq feet, not including the stairwell and roof area.

Comfortable over-sized full size platform bed - with nice firm mattress and a novaform gel memory foam topper! Down comforter, fleece blankets, fresh cotton bedding and pillows. Bath and beach towels provided. Bathrobes too.
Flat-screen TV with built in DVD player in the guest room .
Flat-screen TV with separate DVD player in the living room.
Wireless Internet and digital cable TV. Wireless code and info is on the small bulletin board on your bed and in a small picture frame on living room and dining room table with the internet info posted.

If you have an additional person, or simply do not want to share a bed, I do have a new Costco Queen Airbed with headboard. Quite comfortable and better than sleeping on the floor. It is an additional $20 to set up the airbed for the second person. I need to know in advance if there will be an extra person as I need to rearrange a few things in the guest room to accommodate the airbed.

If you are a couple and have a third person sharing the room and using the airbed it is an additional $36 for third person, for a total of $56 for the third person.

Please let me know in advance if you need the airbed in addition to the regular full size bed in your room. The last few pictures show the airbed in the guest room.
Additional guest MUST be approved by me, in advance.

Guest room does not have a view of the ocean, however you can hear the waves. I do leave my bedroom door open during the day so that you can also enjoy the waves from my bedroom window. You can also see the beach from the dining room and the roof area.

Compact functional kitchen with full size refrigerator, stove, toaster oven, microwave, crock pot, coffee, french press or Keurig. Coffee pods are supplied. You can also bring your own ground coffee and use the Keurig insert.
Plus a Vita Mix blender! It makes the best fruit smoothies.
It is not a juicer.
You can get organic fresh juice at New Leaf Market in Capitola on 41st Av.

I prefer no full blown cooking. I use the toaster oven for small meals...and I use the 2 right burners for making eggs, tea, etc. DO NOT rearrange the set up on the stove top please. Use only the 2 RIGHT side burners.
The oven is not available for cooking. It stores my cookware.

I supply breakfast food for you. If time permits I will cook breakfast. If I am not available to cook breakfast just know that there is always breakfast food available for you...such as whole wheat English muffins or Gayles bread, eggs, yogurt, and granola or oatmeal fruit, coffee and tea. I usually serve Gayles seasonal muffins. We also bake our own gluten free banana bread, muffins if you request that in advance.

I also have other gluten free options.
Kashi & organic raisin bran cereal, peanut or almond butter(kept in frig), juice, coffee, tea, etc. Goody Basket with snacks such as popcorn, chips, raisins, nuts, trail mix, chocolate.

You are also welcome to bring your special food items and store them in the frig. I have soft sided coolers for your beach picnic. They are stored on the top of the shelving unit near the roof door.

Please let me know if you have any food allergies - such as NUTS, or are on a special (URL HIDDEN) carbs, vegan, gluten free, etc. I will try to accommodate your requests.
Dining table faces out to the ocean/beach and Capitola Village.

My apartment only has one full bathroom and it is shared.
Obviously I wish I had another bathroom but there are just some things in life you can't change so you learn to compromise gracefully. I do not work a regular job so I won't be hogging the bathroom in the morning! And most mornings I am at the gym. You get first dibs! Usually it is just me staying at the (URL HIDDEN) no wait for the loo.

The shared hall bathroom has a skylight, wall heater, hairdryer, flat iron, 10X lighted makeup mirror, shampoo, soap, body wash and other bath products. After sun lotion, aloe gel and other first aid supplies are in the guest room.

Flexible check in/checkout may be possible on specified dates.
General check in is 5 pm. Sometimes I can do earlier check in on a case by case basis. This depends on my work schedule. If I can make the unit available before 5 pm I will make every effort to get you in earlier!
Checkout by 11 am-12 noon.

I will make sure you have a parking permit so that you can explore the area/beach if you arrive early in the day.
I will do my best to work with your plans.

If I am not traveling myself I will be sharing the apt with you. I sleep in the master bedroom with my partner. Sometimes a friend will be acting as my co-host and staying in my room in the event that I am on vacation. We are very quiet and respectful of your time here.
We will have to share the one hall bathroom as well - so far this has not caused any problems with me or my guests.

Reminder...this is not a sterile, overpriced hotel room.
This is a SHARED, affordable lodging experience at the beach!!

If you are not comfortable staying with strangers, then this is not the ideal situation for your needs. Capitola has lots of lodging options. If you need complete privacy I am sure that you will find the perfect space for your getaway, if you do your research.

My space is really not suitable for small children/(URL HIDDEN) please don't even ask. Young, well behaved teens are OK with a supervising adult in tow. There is an extra fee ($20) to set up the airbed.
It is designed mainly as an adults only apartment.
I have many valuable pieces of art and and antiques all over the apartment, and it is on the top floor of the building.
It is not kid safe!

No pets please.
Occasionally my dog comes to visit. Please let me know if you have any issues with dogs.

I have a leather box, near the kitchen area, with local and state maps plus binders with restaurant menus and local activities. There is also box with maps and brochures in your room.

Spring and Fall weekends on the central coast can be lovely with sunshine and mild temperatures. Perfect for biking, hiking and relaxing. Surfing too of course.

Winter can see a bit of rain here on the central coast, and chilly nights however we still have fabulous clear, crisp sunny winter days.

Summer is warm, with a touch of occasional fog. Usually the fog burns off by mid morning or noon and the afternoon are sunny.
Nights are almost always chilly after the sun goes down.
Dress in layers and you should be fine. A light coat, sweater or fleece and a little cap/hat make the temperatures more comfortable.
Capitola is the most mellow beach in the county.
Great for beginning (URL HIDDEN) attitude here!

Rates are $99-122 and up US -depending on the season and holidays.
Third person is additional charge.

Your stay includes breakfast and snacks. I may not be available to cook you breakfast, but there is always breakfast food for you....eggs, cereal, fruit, muffins, yogurt, etc.

NEIGHBORHOOD INFO:

For brunch I would send you to the Wharf House restaurant on the Capitola Pier. Great homemade food and I hear the eggs Benedict is the bomb....or head to Paradise Beach grille.

Its Wine Tyme bar is one of my favorite hangouts. Say hi to owners Sondi & Ed.
I help out at many of their special events! Their new location on Capitola Av includes an outdoor patio area with fire pit, snacks and live music. They are now located next to Beach House Rentals on Capitola Av.

Cava wine bar is also quite nice, next to Caruso's Italian restaurant. Just up the street on Capitola Av is Bella Roma Cafe run by an Italian chef from Sorrento. My guests from Italy say that the food is very authentic and they thought they were back in Italy.

Great shopping in Capitola Village for gals and guys....lots of fun stores from funky to upscale.
I love Zen Island - beach decor and clothing. You can't resist!
Lots of great shops and merchants in the Village and the Mercantile Mall.
You can find shades, shoes, lingerie, beach glass, surf gear, local art and more!
Explore, window shop and take home a bargain or a treasure.

**********************************************

There is a pool in my complex and it is heated by solar panels, but it is still on the nippy side or you can take a dip in the ocean. There are a few nice adult hot tub places nearby in Santa Cruz... Kiva, Well Within and Tea House spa.
If you want to work out you can be my guest at Capitola Fitness for just $10/day. They have all the usual equipment plus classes/outdoor heated pool/sun deck/steam room and spa.

As a backup please provide name, age and phone number for all members of your traveling party.

I have an app on my i phone that allows Airbnb messages to be forwarded to me quickly.
Additionally you can text me at my cell number - which is given to you after the reservation is booked. This way we can keep in touch regarding your check in, arrival times and any other questions you may have for me.

Our designated check-in time is 5 pm.

PLEASE DO NOT MOVE THE CHAIRS OFF THE RUGS.
I have created safe sitting areas on the roof.
You can not walk around on the roof for any reason. ( unless there is a fire).
Do not go to the edge. Stay in my designated areas on the carpets.

In the winter months I stack the chairs and put the heavy water bottles on top of them to prevent them from blowing off the roof.

You need to be fairly quiet on the roof so as not to disturb my other neighbors. Remember your voices carry!
Thank you for being mindful.

I prefer guests that are very light smokers as I am a bit allergic to heavy smoke on furniture, clothing and bedding.

NO HEAVY SMOKERS.

You can smoke upstairs, outside on the roof.
Cigarette butts needs to be placed in ashtray or can, not thrown over the edge. There is a metal coffee can you can use for butts.

If you do this I will give you a bill for their replacement and deduct the cost from your deposit.

Do not take the duvet cover off the down comforter. It is meant to protect the comforter and the cover is washed after each guest.

Myself or my co-hosts will check on the apt to make sure that everything is in order during your stay. Remember this is a SHARED space, not a private hotel room.

The host has no control over the Airbnb booking fee. When you book, Airbnb calculates the cleaning fee, (extra persons fee (if applicable), and airbnb's booking fee into the nightly cost. If you need clarification about, or assistance with booking please contact Airbnb's customer service.

We look forward to your stay. Should you find that after reading the information under the “house rules" tab, that the Serene Oceanfront retreat will not work for you and your party/family, please contact the host to see if any accommodations can be made. The stairwell leads to the roof door.
The roof is an emergency exit, as is the downstairs front door.
There are windows in every room.

Close and lock both doors when you come in at night. The lock needs to be in the horizontal position for both doors.

I usually leave a few of the florescent lights on for safety and as night lights. I may leave the lamp near the front door on, the stove light and there is a night light in the bathroom.

Please turn off lights/heaters you are not using when you are away from the apt.

I prefer no heavy cooking. I am not equipped for full scale cooking in my little kitchen. You may heat things in the microwave or toaster oven.

NO candles, due to fire safety. Can use in an emergency, but must be very careful and monitor them.

The breaker box is in the hallway behind a picture - it is labeled and it is across from the guest bedroom.

Please NO incense, NO CANDLES/OPEN FLAMES/NO scented massage oil or creams, NO SILICONE LUBE and NO heavy perfumes/colognes. Many thanks in advance.

Items you can borrow and use DURING YOUR VISIT:
Most of these items are up near the roof door, in the stairwell.
Wetsuits and Surfboards must be rinsed off with water before bringing back up to the stairwell. Try to get off as much sand as you can. There are several hoses around the building, and there is a public shower just below the building, outside of the public restrooms.
Beach Towels - you can dry them out on the roof, then put in the laundry bin in the guest room closet.
Blankets
Extra sweaters/jackets - they are hanging on hooks near the roof door.
wetsuits - hanging on hooks near the roof door.
some swimsuits and shorts
Coolers
2 blue foam surf boards. ( not the white surf boards in the right hand corner- those are wendy's personal surf boards and are not available to guests)

There is a boogie board and a skim board for you use...and you can take out the smaller surf boards, but the two large white long boards are off limits.

There are spare toiletries behind the bedroom door....and if you need anything else please just ask me.

For those with any pet allergies you should know that I have no cats, and occasionally my dog, Max, comes to visit and stay overnight. He is a 77 lb mostly Belgian Malinois and ???mix. He looks like a reddish brown lean German Shepard/dingo!! He is very friendly. He sleeps in my bedroom and is never allowed in the guest room. He is mostly a non shedding dog - there is very little or no pet hair or dander here. I usually put down towels for him so that he is not right on the carpet.
I have a DYSON vacuum which gets up all the hair.
