There are two houses. The main house dates back to the Renaissance. The story goes that during the time the house served as a presbytery, King Francois the First, slept in it, while traveling in the region. Sections have been added in the XVII and XVIII but most of the outside walls date back to the XVth.
There is a garden dominated by a swimming pool with pool alarm (if you have small children; the alarm can be switched on/off as you wish), lots of flowers and some beautiful trees including a wonderful palm tree.
The two houses, (in the shape of an L around the garden/pool) make up a total living space of 600 m2. All the bedrooms in both houses have a view on the garden and pool. The two bedrooms in the main house are more 'chateau' like while the other 4 are simpler, more in the provence style. There are also 2 baby cot available.
Each house has a large living room and a kitchen(big one in the main house) and kitchen bar in the second house. The old house may have a window or a door that closes with a bit more difficulty(price to pay for original settings).
Amenities and furniture: There is a washing machine, a tumble drier(and the possibility of hanging up your clothes outside to dry) and iron.
Dish washer, fridge, freezer, oven, microwave, coffee maker, blender/juicer, electric kettle, toaster are available in both houses.
Wi-Fi is available In the main house and in the garden; cable TV, radio and a CD player are available in the second house.
For sitting by the pool : 7 sun loungers and an indefinite amount of chairs you can use and small outdoor tables.
An outdoor table which can accommodate 13 people , 1 baby high chairs and a portable BBQ.
The kitchen in the main house has also a large dining table and the second house has a table for 8.
There are 6 bedrooms and 1 bedroom alcove. 3 double beds, 3 twin beds(which can be separated but will still be in the same room), 1 single in the alcove (for a young person). There is one cot.
Bed linen and towels ( both shower and beach) are included. Beds are done up for arrival. The cleaning is also included in the price. An extra mid week cleaning of the kitchens and bathrooms is also included.
The garden/pool gets sun all day, so its ideal for sunbathing, and if you prefer the shade there is enough cover from the various trees around the pool as well.
Since the house is situated in a village you have all basic necessities within a three minute walk. There is a bakery, grocery store, supermarket, cafe-bar, pharmacy, two restaurants, and a take away pizza place. This however also means that you have neighbours! And the neighbours do need to sleep. This means that you can of course sit outside by the pool and have normal conversations but no loud partying after 11pm.
Driving you can reach golf and tennis courts within 5 minutes. Canoe hire, windsurf, bike hire, riding can all be reached in 10-20 minutes. The sea/beaches are a 20 minute car ride from the house. There is plenty of information available on the desk in the main house about all possible activities, wine tasting etc...
During the summertime there is a variety of music, poetry and dance festivals and events happening in the surrounding areas such as Sete, Beziers, Lodeve, Montpellier, Pezenas.
There is also an established wine culture in the region, with several vineyards open for wine tasting and purchase. If you want some recommendations I can always oblige.
There is a gated gravel courtyard in the front of the house (which is completely separate from the garden which is on the other side of the houses) where you can park 2-3 cars and if you need more space there is free parking just down the street.
Michel, the caretaker and gardener comes every morning(very early at 6 am) to water the flowers and clean the pool. He is very quiet and never enters the house. He only speaks french but so far guests have had no problems with a bit of sign language. Michel will meet you when you arrive, show you the house and give you the keys. If there is any problem you can call him and he will come and fix it. I have also left on the desk of the main house a little notebook with information about how to use the various amenities, wi-fi password etc.
Michel will take a deposit of 400 euros in cash upon your arrival. This will be given back to you upon your departure unless something has been broken. The cost of the broken item will be deducted from your deposit.
If you have any further questions about the property just write me an email.
The house is a 15 minute drive from Beziers airport( Ryanair airport), a 45 minute drive from Montpellier airport and 1.5 hours from Gerona airport(Ryanair). The local train station is Beziers or Agde, and if you are going to or coming from Paris it takes about 4.5 hours.
