We just reduced some winter weeknights to keep things busy here. Check us out! See also all the pictures so that you can fully appreciate the wild life down here. Right now we have a run of salmon on the creek which have been flopping incessantly as they make their way upstream to spawn. the action is amazing this year!
This is a very classy little cottage in Chuckanut Village, nestled (very) literally creek side. This dynamic hangout becons you to kick up your feet in the hammock in the eclectic garden with curvy raised beds and a chicken tree house. Come collect your own eggs and breakfast, and stay a while. Hot tub and >5 Kayaks available. Recent guests brought paddleboards and actually took them down the creek.
The cottage echos the designer main house, connected by boardwalk and lovely private garden. Hostess is a horticulturalist that loves to share creative thoughts. Watch the tides change, and smell the salt air, pick your dinner from the garden. The Hobbit House has a nice little galley, (kitchen) and feels very beachy/nautical. Composting toilet and high sensitivity to this marine environment and our mutual stewardship of this special retreat. Huge fire pit and seating area if you like a serious bonfire.
Negotiate for the main house if you have a group, and I'll consider sleeping on my friend's sailboat. WiFi, Extra Grill, nice high end futon bed. We are right off the famous Chuckanut Drive, very close to trails, public boat launch, hiking, great mountain biking right here on Chuckanut, Larrabee State Park and Historic Fairhaven for shopping. Transport to the Alaska Ferry and AmTrak just moments up the road. Airport shuttle to BIA (Bellingham Airport) available.
We are coming to appreciate the full costs of operation, and needing to cover our cleaning expenses. Taxes are included in the price of your stay. No hidden costs. Pets are welcome, but we need to discuss. There is no place for me to put a pet cleaning fee of $30 on the airbnb site. I really want to do complete cleanings of bedspreads and such after pets visit, which takes time and energy and larger washing machines. People with allergies must to be able to visit the Hobbit House with no reservations or concerns. Thank you for understanding. We are very pet friendly here, but well behaved critters are a must.
I left the Hobbit Hideaway only 2 days ago and I already miss the place like crazy! It is places and hosts like this that make traveling a pleasure instead of a headache. For anyone who enjoys relaxing in a backyard garden, waking up to beautiful views of the bay, being within walking distance of hiking trails, or meeting your share of friendly locals - Hobbit Hideaway is for you!
Many thanks to Alison and her family for being so kind and welcoming! Would definitely recommend.
Amazing little getaway.. clean and cozy space with a bedroom view of the bay, and a creek that runs alongside a big window beside the bed. Great outdoor space as well, with garden plots, chickens, and a green house to relax in. Shower is in the main house (outdoor shower coming soon), but Alison is more than welcoming into her home. We’ll definitely be back!
this was the perfect antidote to my usual stay in corporate hotels. my only regret was that I didn't get to try the delicious eggs from Alison's chickens. I definitely look forward to returning with my sweetie for some real R&R!
Had a great time with my girlfriend at this cabin. It was quaint and while definitely small still had everything we needed. The hosts were nice and stayed out of our way. Would recommend this to anyone :)
Alison was the perfect host. The Hobbit House was cute and quaint and the property itself was beautiful with a view of the bay. The house was artistic and beautifully put together and the hot tub outside was definitely a bonus. One of my favorite parts was sipping coffee in bed while watching the ducks in the stream and the sun rising in the distance over the bay. We had so much fun talking with Alison and learning about her work and gardening. We can't wait to go back in the summer to see the garden in its fullest.
We Enjoyed the Hobbit Hideaway very much! My wife and I love Bellingham as we went to College together at WWU. Staying at the Hobbit Hideaway was a perfect 4 nights as we had a romantic weekend enjoying all the great restaurants that Bellingham has to offer. We enjoyed the warm hospitality including fresh muffins, fruit, and fresh eggs from her own chickens! We had the hottub all to ourselves right outside our doorsteps and the most incredible view the bay. Where else could we get a luxury suite with a view and private hottub for such an affordable price! We can't wait to go back again in the summer!
Thank you Andrew for the lovely review! Last night we walked in late, from a wonderful concert, and I was reminded by the seabirds on the bay of the evening chatter amongst them that is audible during the stillness of the evenings. I hope that you were able to appreciate that quiet banter between the birds at night while you were out there in the tub. ;~) be well and we hope to see you two again soon. Ahh.
This is a great little Hobbit hideaway! Everything you need to know about the place is in the description and Alison is very responsive if you have questions. I could tell you about how kind and helpful Alison is, but all the other reviews tell you that. I could tell you about the features but the description is detailed and accurate. What other adds don't tell you is that when you wake up you are looking out into a creek full of life. On our second morning we watched from the warmth of our bed a Herron catch multiple fish less than ten feet from us. Thanks Alison for a great place to stay!
The Hobbit house was a place that drew me away from the city and into a place of quiet and contemplation. The cottage itself was tidy, cozy, and in a such a gorgeous setting. I deeply appreciated the homey touches in the kitchen, lovely tea, fresh eggs, access to kale in the garden. These small details made out stay so much more personal and charming. I look forward to heading back this spring! Alson is delightful, very giving, charming and inclusive.
Thank you Lana! It was wonderful to have you here for the wintery wet days that you were here. Thank you for blessing this place with your nature and spirit. The work that you are doing sounds powerful- and your presence here was a gift. All the best to you!! I hope to see you back here sometime in Bellingham!! Ali
What a rejuvenating experience! Our short retreat between the holidays was the perfect environment to reflect before the new year! Alison and her daughter were so warm and accommodating with the holidays and their time and everything was set up so perfectly! I was able to immediately relax and appreciate the love invested in this beautifully arranged space and the intuitive care in every detail. I completely took advantage of the hot tub (permanently pruned fingers and toes:) with the beautiful view of the bay and the sound of the creek while Mister strapped on his hip waders and had his exploration time. I think the most fun we had was playing Quiddler (new favorite!) and hanging out till the sun came up then going for a brisk hike till it was dark again. Such a lovely time and we are so grateful!
Be well!~ Christina and Mesa
You two are so sweet! Ha! So glad you love the Quiddler game... a fav of nieces and nephews. We now have a new backgammon board and gee, I think the Bananagrams game was here in the house!Oops! I think Mesa and his hip waders in the creek were a FIRST, like the time the folks took their paddle board down the creek last summer... each guest has a way of sharing something new to love about living here! thank you for gracing this space with your specialness! Until next time! (soon!)
