About this listing
We are a dancer/choreographer couple delighted to offer our home, a glorious parlor level (2nd floor) brownstone apartment - high ceilings, stained glass windows, lots of lovely sunlight and a few short blocks to Prospect Park. Lefferts (formerly Prospect Lefferts Gardens) is a charming Brooklyn neighborhood rich with history, greenery, and diversity. You can expect a real Brooklyn experience at our apartment.
The bedroom’s queen sized bed comfortably fits one person, a couple, or two friends willing to bunk together. The bathroom has a claw-foot tub and an excellent showerhead. The dining and living rooms are spacious and warm with plenty of spaces to enjoy a meal or relax. We have a flat screen television, a Wii for watching Netlix (or playing games), and free Wifi.
The kitchen is fully-equipped with a dishwasher, gas stove and oven, typical kitchen amenities, and oodles of cook books. It's a delightful place to whip up something tasty. We also provide some breakfast goodies.
The apartment is quiet, private, and quite large by NYC standards. A sweet little neighbor cat sometimes visits, but does not live in the apartment and can be kept out if necessary.
The neighborhood is charming and safe. There's a yummy Caribbean bakery on the corner, a lovely wine shop one block away, grocery shops large and small, and a few great restaurants (take out and sit down) in the area. Prospect Park is 4 blocks away, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Brooklyn Museum are a short bus ride away or an enjoyable stroll through the park, and a wonderful farmer's market takes place every (email hidden) Plaza. We'll leave you some fun things to check out during your stay. And read more about Lefferts Gardens on airbnb's website: https://www.airbnb.com/locations/new-york/lefferts-garden
We're off the Q express line and the B train, both of which are great trains. The Q gets you to lower Manhattan in 30 minutes or less and stops at most major stations. The B takes you along the lower east side and then up the west side.
We place a lot of emphasis on the upkeep and quality of our home. We keep a clean, organized and warm apartment and expect our guests to enjoy and respect our space.
It's ideal for a couple, but can absolutely house two friends who don't mind sharing a bed or more if sleeping on a comfortable couch suits you. We also have a super comfy air mattress. Just ask! Oh, and we'd ask that you lovingly take care of our cherished plants.
We would love to host you!
We had a really nice stay at Alex and Xan's place! They feel us welcomed in their home... with kind attentions (a little guide with useful advice for our stay, some chocolate on our arrival, etc.).
The appartement is like on the pictures, pleasant and cosy. It is really well situated, near a subway station (5 minutes by walk), with a nice coffee place on the way down.
If you are looking for a typical and beautiful place to stay, I recommend Alex and Xan's home.
Alex and Xan's apartment was quaint, filled with character and has unbeatable value for the amount of space you get for New York. It is lovely, whimsical, cozy and atmospheric. The bed was comfy, and the shower was great. There are direct trains (about a 15 min walk away) which get you to directly to Midtown (Times Square) Along the way are many cafes and restaurants and grocery stores. Alex was a very responsive host and left many useful tips on things to do, eat and see in Brooklyn and NY. They also kindly left wine, chocolates, tea etc.
Do note that stuff is rather fragile in the apartment so renters should be careful at all times. The hall is not air-conditioned. There is no light switch in the bedroom and the light can only be turned on by pulling on the ceiling fan/light lever which is very high (maybe not for Caucasians, but for Asians maybe); we had to stand on a chair everyday to turn on the bedroom light.
Alex is upfront about the fact that this is their home and not a hotel and what to expect about the neighbourhood and apartment though.
Alex and Xan made us feel very welcome in their appartment. It's a very cosy place and it's nice to come 'home' after a hectic day in the city. The kitchen is very well equipped, so it's lovely that they let their guests use it.
When we arrived, the fridge was stored with breakfast supplies, and Alex tried to get in touch with us before we've arrived to explain everything, unfortunetly our mobile phones we're not that coôperative in the VS...
The street is quiet, so we always slept rather well and in the neighbourhood you can find everything you needed (groceries, pharmacies...), also great dental care in the neighbourhood (I got the chance to try it out, no complains about that).
They have a book with tips about restaurants, flea markets (if you'r into that it's a great place to stay) etc.
We had a very nice Brooklyn experience...
Great host and beautiful as well as convient location. Would definitely stay again check in and out was seamless. They were lovely enough to leave breakfast and very quick to respond.
We loved Alex' and Xan's apartment! During our week in New York City it was a cosy safe haven for us, that we loved to return to at the end of the day.
When we arrived they had prepared it very nicely and they left home baked cookies, wine and things for breakfast for us!
They provided us with lots of information about the place, the neighborhood and what they expect from their guests - nothing was unclear and no problems occurred during our stay.
All in all the apartment added substantially to our well-being during our stay in New York.
We had a great experience and would highly recommend the apartment, area and the hosts Xan & Alex especially for being so helpful, considerate and catering to all our needs, thanks
This apartment is fantastic! You will not be disappointed -- you will love your stay here! Everything is just as described, the apartment and neighborhood are great.
The location is easy to get to by car or train. It's just around the corner from slightly busy Flatbush Avenue, but this apartment is on a quiet shaded street. It's a short walk to Prospect Park or the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and a great place ro relax after a trip into the city.
Alex and Xan left a binder with lots of great suggestions (restaurants, shops, places to see). They were perfect hosts and we would gladly stay here again. Thank you, Alex and Xan, for making our first Airbnb stay such a wonderful experience.
