The Space

Apartment 1 sleeps up to six people, and occupies the top two floors of our large Georgian building, it has been stylishly refurbished, while retaining all the original features. There are views from all three double bedrooms, over the pantiled roofs to the East side of Whitby, St Mary's Church, the Abbey and the sea.

There is a shower room, a bathroom, two toilets, large living room, with flat screen tv and dvds, squashy leather sofas, large dining kitchen, and full central heating throughout.

On arrival, you will find in both apartments, a 'Welcome' pack, with red or white wine, just to make you feel at home, and ensure that your stay with us is a memorable one.Situated on the West Cliff of the ancient seaport of Whitby North Yorkshire, this fabulous apartment has sea and Abbey views.

We supply all linen and towels, and a Welcome Pack, and our minimum stay is two nights.

It is quirky, and fun, as we have furnished it from our antique shop on the ground floor, and many of the unique items are for sale!

The street is full of restaurants, antique shops, jewellery shops, fashion shops and is one of a kind. It is the centre for Goths in the UK, and if this is your first visit to Whitby, it will surely not be your last..

Great place to visit the Yorkshire Moors, Steam Railway, Heartbeat Country and to immerse yourself in history.

Groves Hall in Sleights, on the River Esk, just two miles from Whitby, is where we offer Salmon and Sea Trout fishing, on a private stretch of riverbank We have off road parking, and offer luncheon hampers, with a selection of local pies, homemade sandwiches, and cake and with flasks of coffee or tea, fruit juices, or local beer. These can be enjoyed at our picnic table on the river bank.

It is a beautiful and tranquil position in the North Yorkshire National Park with the Weir and fish pass and as it is private, there are few people to break the spell!

Guest Access

Guests can use the courtyard for smoking, when the café is not open.

Interaction with Guests

I meet and great the guests, and am available either in the shop downstairs, or on the telephone, for any queries.

The Neighborhood

Skinner Street is like the Bond Street of Whitby! It is close to Pannett Park,(which houses Whitby Museum and Art Gallery), and only about five minutes from the (website hidden) is surrounded by grand Georgian town houses, and has an eclectic range of individual shops, cafes and restaurants. There is something for everything on this street, which has a very 'villagey' feel.

Getting around

Whitby is great to walk around. There is the Whitby Tour bus, that gives a scenic tour of Whitby, plus the old steam bus, which is a favourite with children.

  • The host was sadly away, but we knew that.
We were welcomed and shown in by the cleaning lady, which worked very well.
The apartment was very good; there was a nice welcome pack; it was interestingly whacky. Everything worked very well.
The area was great and perfect for what we wanted. ( although the pub next door was very noisy until about midnight).
Car parking vouchers were provided and were very much appreciated.
    All together, a great success.

  • The location is excellent in this wonderful historic Yorkshire town really convenient. Once luggage has been unloaded (up the three flights of steep stairs) cars can be parked on nearby 'free' streets.
Numi was kind to welcome us and left us a few starter provisions.

  • Fascinating and spacious place, decorated with fabulous taste. I could have just stayed in and relaxed the whole time. Wish we could have stayed way longer. If and when we're back in Whitby we wanna stay here.

  • Six of us spent a weekend in Apartment No1 and had a great time. There is enough space to relax and the rooms are very comfortable. Numi is a friendly host and made us feel very welcome and then just let us get on with it! Skinner Street is handy for everything and the top room has a sea view.

  • Everything was perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and Numi went to lengths to make sure there were some nice items there on arrival that we had requested for my partner's birthday.

Characterful and tasteful accommodation, just what we were after. Good value too.

  • The apartment is truly gorgeous and is well kitted out - we never lacked for anything during our stay. The complimentary bottle of wine went down a treat too, so thank you for that, Numi!

The bedrooms are beautiful and the beds very comfortable. I slept in the top room at the front (which has an incredible view of the rooftops, the harbour and the Abbey!) and this worked out well as I am the heavy sleeper of the group and so wasn't bothered in the slightest by the (cheerful!) music from the pub down the street. If you sleep lightly, I recommend you pick the room at the back on the same floor as the kitchen/lounge - my friend slept in there with her baby and didn't hear anything at all :)

What else... I loved the location. I have been visiting Whitby for about 25 years since I was a little kid, and am very familiar with Skinner St and its lovely array of shops, not least Botham's Bakery and Tearoom which we made sure to visit a couple of times! There's also a newsagent and a convenience store if you need to nip out for any bits and bobs.

Our host was very welcoming and friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed. All in all, it was a fantastic weekend away, super value for money and something I hope we can repeat again in the future. Thank you Numi!

The apartment was perfect for us; a large dining table, spacious bedrooms, everything really clean and tidy and lovely extras like milk in the fridge, teabags and biscuits. The location is perfect for the town and the beach and it's great value. I'd thoroughly recommend staying here.

We moved to Whitby twenty one years ago from London, as we were looking for the "Better life"..and found it! Whitby has been a fabulous place for our daughter to grow up, and now she is living in London studying sculpture at Art School, just like I did when I was her age..small world! We treat people as we like to be treated when we are travelling,-well and with as much local knowledge as possible. We can book restaurants, pamper sessions, arrange mechanics for car problems, visits to local sites of interest..anything to make your stay with us memorable. My background is in fashion/interior design, and my partner is a musician/photographer, so we have a wide range of interests, and are quite imaginative when it comes to making suggestions for great days out. We have made good friends with people who have come to stay with us, and some of our guests feel that they have a "home away from home" in Whitby, - they arrive as guests and leave as friends. It wasn’t until one of our prospective guests asked if we provided soap in our bnb, that I realised that what we do and how we do it, is a complete mystery, if you haven’t stayed with us before. Charles and I are very experienced world travellers and have had enough bad breakfasts at so called 5-Star hotels to know how to do it properly! We use bacon and sausages from Jacksons of Ruswarp ( a fabulous local butcher about five minutes away)free range eggs, real Heinz baked beans, good quality chestnut mushrooms, lovely tomatoes etc for our Full English. The jams and marmalades are top quality, and we only use English butter. For people with a lesser appetite, we offer porridge, Fruits of the Forest compote and Greek yoghurt, croissants, and any combination of the Full English with scrambled eggs. The cereals are all proper brands, not just sawdust in the bottom of the box! We cater for vegetarians, and vegans, and if you have special dietary requirements, we can generally offer something to fit the bill. We ran a successful Creperie in Whitby for six years, and if booked ahead, I can offer crepes for breakfast with an assorted of fillings. That’s the food covered. Our rental accommodation is the West wing of the house, which is (email hidden)ere is a mezzanine area overlooking Woodlands for having breakfast, which also has a kettle and tea making facilities for use over night. The large bedroom has two vintage European sized single beds, with custom made mattresses, that are soooo comfortable. The bedroom overlooks the garden, and there is a huge bookcase with a selection of really interesting literature. When the weather permits, I serve breakfast in the garden, on the terrace, where you can watch the steam train go by, and Herons flying down the river. Our tv has Free Sat and there is free WiFi, if you need to be in touch with the outside world. Charles recreated an Art Deco bathroom, which has original Royal Doulton fittings, and a properly sized bath, with shower over. Yes we supply soap, good quality shampoo and conditioner, bubble bath etc, and the towels are nice and fluffy. Our guests can walk in the garden, or down by the river, play Badminton on the lawn, play with the cats (of which there are four)and just relax as we have a fantastic view over the beautiful Esk Valley. We have contacts in all the local bars and restaurants, and can make suggestions and arrange bookings for you. We treat our guest how we would like to be treated, and we find that personal recommendation is the best form of advertising.
