Description

The Space

*Please read entire description before sending a message! Most FAQs will be answered in these details. Thanks so much!*

Hi! I'm renting out the 2nd bedroom in my pre-war brownstone apartment in Harlem. Your room will have a private balcony with a hammock. 42in TV with Netflix. Lots of room to stretch out! Plenty of space for a 3rd (or 4th) person to crash. Always-changing art on the walls. Comfy queen size bed with clean sheets, plush loveseat, table and 2 chairs for dining or doing work or just spreading out all your travel stuff. Help yourself to the stack of magazines or the bookshelf if you'd like something to read. Clean towels provided.

Guest Access

There's usually no problem if you're getting in early or leaving late - I have plenty of space for you to store luggage, and keys are always available, but please double check with me first.

Kitchen: Shared with me. Fully stocked. Make yourself at home. I don't drink coffee but there's a French press and probably some instant coffee leftover from recent Abnb travelers. Nice big skylights let in plenty of natural light. Don't be shy - try out the waffle maker :)

Bathroom: Shared with me. Clean, bright. Help yourself here too - there's usually an interesting assortment of shampoos and conditioners left by previous Airbnb guests from around the world. Another skylight letting in a lot of natural light.

My bedroom, when my door is open, and it's usually open. Musical instruments, 2 couches, art supplies, hookah, and often a friend or two :)

Interaction with Guests

I generally interact with the guests as much or as little as you want. I'm pretty easy going like that. Sometimes I get very busy with work though, and may not be available to socialize. But I do as often as I can, because I enjoy meeting new people!

The Neighborhood

I live in Sugar Hill, Harlem, just 2.5mi north of Central Park, Manhattan. Harlem in 2015 is safe and friendly. If it wasn't, former President Bill Clinton wouldn't have his office here! Even if you're a petite young girl, you can walk around at night time with no issues. This area has great access to public transportation, incredible Latin American, pizza, sushi, Thai, Mediterranean, and anything else you can think of restaurants, great bars and pubs, several parks, playgrounds, basketball courts, and of course the Hudson River, just 4 blocks away

Getting Around

The A, B, C, D, and 1 trains are all within a 5-10 minute walk away. There are a few buses too, namely the M100, M101, and BX19

The A train gets you to Columbus Circle in 15 minutes, Port Authority/Penn Station in 25-30, Brooklyn in 40 minutes, and John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in an hour and fifteen minutes.

The 1 train down to 125th street and then getting on the M60 bus gets you to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in 30 minutes on a good day, an hour and a half in bad traffic. The 1 also goes right down to Chelsea, West Village, and all the way down to South Ferry Station, if you want to go see the Statue of Liberty

By subway, Yankee Stadium is 15 minutes. Upper West side is 15-20 minutes. Times Square is 25-30 minutes. Upper East side is 35 minutes. Union Square is 45 minutes. Lower East Side is 50 minutes. Williamsburg is 45 minutes. Park Slope is 55 minutes. Astoria is 40 minutes. Jackson Heights is 50 minutes.

Other Things to Note

My downstairs neighbor and one of my best friends, Ariel, is also an AirBNB host. He is a fully trained yoga instructor and incredible cook, specializing in Ayurvedic and Spanish cuisines. He offers yoga classes and gourmet meals at reasonable prices, both of which his guests rave about, so be sure to ask about them! I can give you his email address after a reservation is made.

House Rules
Check-in is after 3PM

Leave no trace. We try and be mindful of each other's spatial needs by leaving the spaces as we found them, tidying up any messes we made so the next person can enjoy the space. There's no tobacco smoking allowed in the building, but there are ashtrays on the balcony. We generally keep our doors open in this building, as we're all friends. I ask that you keep your bedroom door open when you're not around so I can get to the balcony to enjoy the hammock and water my plants :)

Hi! Nice to meet you.

I heard about AirBNB through a friend, and have been in love with the website ever since.

Five things I can't live without? Family, friends, live music, home cooked food, and the sun!

I've been overseas a handful of times, but I'd have to say my two favorite destinations are Valencia, Spain and Seoul, South Korea, mostly because I developed the deepest and most cherished friendships there. Some of my other favorite trips were to Puerto Rico, Paris, Germany, Colombia, and Thailand. I'm going to New Orleans in the fall and Sri Lanka next winter - so excited!

When I travel, I enjoy interacting with the people I meet much more than sightseeing or attractions. I'd rather spend a day in a park playing frisbee with strangers than waiting in lines and taking pictures of famous buildings.

I've had incredible travel experiences, and have met amazing people along the way everywhere I've gone. I'd like to help make your travel experience to NYC as special as possible. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help!
