The Space

Very large, private basement apartment with kitchenette (microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, sink, full size frig) and a full bath in the center of artsy and historic Charlottesville. 40 minute safe walk to the Downtown Mall if you're in the mood for exercise. Easy driving to everything and a bus stop nearby. Great neighborhood - lots of sidewalks for walking, quiet, yet centrally located in the city. Off street parking.

Room includes a Queen bed, a Twin bed and a potentially sleepable couch, so there is space for 1-2 more people for an extra charge.

Guests will need to walk through one hallway of the main house to get to the apartment and other than that, you have great privacy. Laundry and upstairs oven privileges potentially available.

Free WiFi, though we do not have cable TV.

I work from home as a designer and am readily available to help with directions and ideas of things to do in the area.

Because it is a basement apartment it tends to stay cool - excellent in the summer, but if you like things really warm, you may need a sweater in the winter.

Currently we do not charge a cleaning fee for guests in hopes that everyone will leave the room as they found it. For longer term renters (5+ days), we can discuss cleaning options beforehand - either a deposit of $10/week provided up front that I hold onto in good faith for a clean space at the end of the rental term, or a fee of $15 for a provided weekly cleaning. This keeps the price lower for everyone, and allows for the room to also stay as clean as possible. Thank you!

  • We had a great experience staying with Carol--her apartment was very spacious and had everything we needed; it was very clean and neat. Carol was a lovely, friendly and welcoming host, as were the other members of her household. Her home is in a great walking/biking neighborhood and close and convenient to to all the sights. We had a great stay.

  • Cindy was responsive by email, even though we don't get to see her quite often. And getting to her place was easy. Just as described, Cindy's place was spacious, central, clean and quiet. Good for us - the family of four (especially with two boys) to stay. We had a great and very comfortable time there for more than a week. The wi-fi there also quite convenient for us to use.

We would love to stay at her place next time when we visit Charlottesville.

  • What a lovely place to stay and definitely spacious! The unit was nice and clean and she had refreshments and treats available for us after a long day's drive. There is nice parking area for your vehicle as well. After one night's stay we decided to stay for a second night. Cindy was very accommodating to our itinerary for which we are very grateful. Thank you for your (website hidden) greetings!

  • Cincy was a magnificently kind and cool housemate for the duration of my stay. The apartment is surprisingly large, as others have mentioned, Whole Foods is very nearby and I could drive to UVa in about 10 minutes.

The wifi also is fast, critical for me given that I worked extensively from the unit. I'll definitely inquire about availability here again for my 2015 work trip to C'ville.

  • Cindy's place is as described: spacious, central, clean, and quiet. We stayed one night for University of Virginia's graduation and were able to access the campus and restaurants in less than 10 minutes by car (this is during a weekend with thousands of people visiting Charlottesville for graduation). In addition, even though our schedules did not line up until the morning we were due to leave, Cindy was incredibly responsive by email and text and getting into the space was not a problem at all. On top of that, Cindy made us scones in the morning! Overall, this was a great stay and I would highly recommend this place to anyone heading to Charlottesville.

  • Our overnight stay with Cindy was exactly how it is listed...the suite is large, comfortable and well cared for. Cindy was most accommodating of our needs, making sure we had a confirmed taxi to get to the airport. I would definitely stay with her again.

  • We had a great time staying at Cindy's place. The room was very large and comfortable with all the amenities we needed--we even spent an evening in the house just relaxing. We're animal lovers and really enjoyed being greeted by the cats when we came back to the house in the evening. Also, even though I suffer from pretty severe cat allergies the place was so clean that I didn't have any problems at all. Cindy and her family were great hosts and we'd highly recommend the place.

  • I missed meeting Cindy but she provided extremely clear info re my arrival and then left notes for me, too. I had a too-brief stay but even so appreciated how thoroughly and thoughtfully equipped it is for guests - basically, your own fully outfitted apt. within Cindy's house. If you're wondering about its proximity to downtown Charlotte, I'm a cyclist and had a very pleasant 15-minute bike ride to the downtown mall (chose to bike rather than worry about parking). Highly, highly recommended.
