About this listing
Escape to this cozy apartment. Walk to the peaceful river/bay beaches and boardwalk in the quaint shore town of Ocean Gate. Also walk to hiking trails, 2 restaurants and a market! Easy drive to a number of other Jersey Shore Beaches as well.
**PLEASE excuse the backyard, it is under construction! I'm in the process of redesigning the backyard to include a fence, outdoor living area, kitchen, bar, hot tub, expanded deck and patio, pond, etc. Please excuse the view while a new outdoor oasis is being created for myself and my Airbnb guests!**
This is a private apartment in a detached garage in my backyard. It's on a quiet dirt road that backs to conservation land. This home is NOT on the water, rather it is a 5 minute walk to the pictures you see of the water.
Accommodates as many as 6 (which would be tight) with 2 on queen, 2 on full, 1 on twin and 1 on couch.
On the first floor is a full kitchen with range, oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, etc. There is also a custom made granite tile breakfast bar and a half bathroom on this floor.
On the second floor there is one large room with 3 beds (1 Queen, 1 Full, and 1 Twin) a couch and chairs, cable TV, DVD/BluRay player, air conditioning, and a bathroom with shower.
Cable TV includes HBO, Showtime, Starz, and Cinemax. ON-Demand TV and movie programming.
Interaction with Guests
I live in the house in the front of the property. I do work alot and go away on weekends, but do also spend a lot of time working around the house. So you may see me, and I would love to meet you! At the same time I am very respectful of your privacy and will not bother you. Though I'm always available to help if you need something!
Less than a 5 minute walk to bay beach and boardwalk in quaint town of Ocean Gate.
Twenty minute drive to the ocean (Island Beach State Park, Seaside Park, Seaside Heights, Ortley Beach, Lavalette, etc.)
Bring your boat! There is plenty of room in the backyard for your boat and trailer, and 3 ramps less than a mile away. You can get to the barrier island much quicker by boat (5 minutes on the boat vs 20 minutes driving).
Two great restaurants less than a mile away:
Water's Edge - WATERFRONT! Right on the Barnegat Bay, huge outdoor deck, arrive by boat, bike, or by car, live music daily in the summer, good bar food outside, and excellent fine dining inside.
Anchor Inn - WALKABLE! Awesome little place with great thin crust bar pies, and plenty of other good food. A Bar/Restaurant with character.
Yolanda's Riverhouse - WALKABLE - Decent place for a bite!
Toms River Park and Ride bus station is a 7 minute drive.
**** EASY COMMUTE FROM NYC ****
From Port Authority in NYC, simply hop on NJ Transit bus 319 or 137 for a nonstop, direct trip to Toms River Park and Ride in about an hour and 35 minutes for less than $20. Cabs are there waiting for a 10 minute drive to the apartment.
NO SMOKING IN THE APARTMENT!
I only hope that the apartment is left in the same (or better :)) condition as it was found. I don't mind people having a good time, but treat the place as if it were your own! Thanks!
The little apartment is in a lovely wooded area located a short walk to the beach. It was absolutely perfect for a ladies' weekend getaway. The apartment was welcoming with information on the area and beach passes. Keith stopped by to say hi in the afternoon and was always incredible in his responses to any questions we had. Great place to stay!
This garage apartment was everything we could have asked for. It was very spacious and most importantly, clean. He has a full kitchen (which was utilized) and all of the necessary silverware, dishes, and cooking necessities. He also has an extensive array of spices! Keith was very personable, friendly, and outgoing. He offered to go out with us for drinks, but sadly, we had prior plans. Overall it was an amazing experience and we hope to be back next summer!
We were lucky to find Keith's place, I only wish we were able to spend more than one night there. Our preplanned schedule was jam-packed, so we arrived after 9 pm and left the next morning around 8 am.
The accommodations were very comfortable for the three of us. Keith was great. As our arrival time kept changing, we were texting back and forth. He set us up well, that if we arrived when he was not there, check in would have been seamless. In the end, Keith was home and welcomed us in person.
if you want to enjoy the Jersey Shore and stay in the comfort of home, this is the place for you. It is a good location for nature lovers, especially birders, as his place is next to a preserve. We saw several good birds in his yard before we departed. The landscaping is currently torn apart, but his yard will be so much better after Keith fixes it up, which is his plan. None-the-less it was peaceful, and I wish we had the time to have walked around the neighborhood.
Keith was a wonderful host, and made us feel at home. He was quick to respond when I needed a lightbulb and overall friendly and helpful. The house is a converted garage, which is cozy and has what you need to crash in the evenings after being at the beach and also a nice place to spend a rainy day in front of the tv (many channels). Quiet woodsy back road in walking distance to a very pleasant bay beach where we spent most evenings crabfishing. It is also in driving distance to many big beaches and malls, restaurants. So you have both a cozy cove bay town with the docks to hang out on, as well as the more busy jersey boardwalk and beautiful sand dune beach parks about a 25 min drive away. I was there with my 6 year old son, and used the place as a base, to visit people or have them visit me. We spent a lot of time at the local bay beach which had waves and was perfect for a new swimmer and there were kids to play with and an overall small town friendly feel. We also took a few trips to NY city (very easy park and drive from Toms River) as well as to the water park Hurricane Harbour (a success) and my kids was crying he wanted to stay after our 3 weeks there. An overall sucessful holiday!
We had a terrific stay at Keith's place in NJ Bay Beach area.
Highly recommended for both small families and backpackers.
The beach area is great and everything needed is close by.
Top score :)
Keith was a terrific host - super easy to work with, and his place is beautiful.
