we stayed in dimora tipica for 9 days, and everything was totally ok: no wifi issues, no replacement apartments, no nonworking lamps, described in previous reviews.
house is full of specific atmosphere of good old venezia - dark wood, mystic locked door in one of bedrooms, strange sounds, ghosts, channel right under the windows. shortly speaking - come and see it by yourself, without spoilers.
location: fine pizzeria, good tavern and another 2 places to seat and eat in are just in 50 meters from the door. 3-4 minutes walk to a supermarket, 8 minutes walk to vaporetto, 10~15 minutes walk to train station, realto bridge and actually everything in san polo.
host: we haven't met Geraldine, just talked on the phone - she is pleasant and easy to communicate to. the only person we dealed to was Nora, who gave us keys, showed everything in dimora and told us about neighborhood, food, shops ets. (she also speaks russian and it was really useful.)
absolutely no one disturbed as during stay.
no doubt, it is the nice place to stay in venice.
I rented the apartment, dimora tipica veneziana, in Venice, Italy, for three couples for the period of October 6-9, 2014. In anticipation of our arrival, I emailed our hostess on September 21 and September 28 with our arrival details and also a request for specific details and arrangements for access to the apartment. When our hostess failed to reply to either email, I reached her by phone on October 3. She agreed to meet us at a designated water bus stop and then walk us to dimora tipica. We arrived at the water bus stop and waited for our hostess. Upon her arrival, she admitted that she had incorrectly given us the wrong water bus stop, because she thought that she had rented to us another of her properties other than dimora tipica. With luggage in tow, it was necessary for all six of us to board the water bus again, proceed to the correct water bus stop, and follow our hostess to the correct apartment. Upon arrival, we encountered several conditions which we believed were unsatisfactory. As an example, Wireless Internet was listed as an amenity in the Airbnb description of the apartment. Access to the Internet, especially at the end of our Italy trip, was an important criterion in our decision to rent this particular property. Our hostess informed us that Wi Fi was no longer available because an earlier renter had taken the “key” (the router?) and that she had decided not to replace it. She suggested that we could find a restaurant that offered free Wi Fi. Contrary to the Airbnb description, we had no Internet connectivity while in our Venice apartment. In addition, our hostess provided only two sets of keys for three couples. This required coordination of plans at a level that we had not anticipated when we assumed that each couple would have a set of keys to the apartment. As we settled in, we discovered that the main light source in the hallway of the second floor was simply a bulb in a socket that protruded from the wall on exposed wires. In my bedroom, two light fixtures had broken pieces and/or missing bulbs. We were concerned that both might be safety issues. In one bedroom, both arms of a love seat were broken. We chose not to use the dishwasher in the kitchen because the inside of the appliance appeared streaked and dirty. While showering, the water temperature suddenly went completely cold twice during a single shower. Although our experience with other Airbnb rentals and hosts in both Rome and Florence were positive, we were disappointed by our experience and by the conditions that we encountered in the Venice apartment, dimora tipica veneziana.
Because of an issue in the appartment we booked, Geraldine offers us another appartment. Appartement was great and well situated but i think not fine as the original one. First there was no wifi as expected in the other appartment. Beds were really hard and pillow was very small in the 3 bed rooms then we did not sleep at all. In the kitchen there were missing tools to prepare breakfast: no Cafe machine , no micro wave.
So some things have to be improved and it will be a great appartment.
Really enjoyed staying at his apartment. There were six of us and there was plenty of space for us all. Two bathrooms is great and the upstairs kitchen and living space is really light and airy. We would definitely stay here again.
