Interaction with Guests
You will be sharing with me, my name is Dagmar. I'm originally from Germany, have been living here for a number of years and just absolutely love the Aussie lifestyle. I can give you hints of where to go and what to see. I'm happy to interact with you if you want and give you space if you don't.
I'm a bit of a social butterfly and into all kinds of activities like bushwalking, swimming, dancing etc. which you're welcome to join.
Your home away from home is located in Erskineville/Newtown, just 3km from the city's centre and harbour with all it's tourist attractions. You can see the city skyline from the apartment.
If you want to explore one of the most socially interesting and diverse suburbs of Sydney, known for its variety of restaurants, wine bars, shops and antiques galleries then this is the place for you. Newtown is a popular destination for a unique shopping experience, finding cuisine from almost any part of the world or just mixing with the crowd full of character and charm and it's only 3km from Sydney's main tourist attractions like the Opera house, Circular Quay etc.
Just opposite the front entrance you've got Sydney's biggest park (44 hectares) for walking, exercising or picnicking with 360 degree views over Sydney from the hill or enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the cafe in the park. Every weekend there are plenty of people playing volleyball or soccer etc. and they're very happy for anyone to join in.
You're only 5 min. walk to the train station and the train takes you in 5 min. to Central station, 8 min. to Museum station and 15 min. to Circular Quay. In addition there are plenty of bus options you can choose from, and bus stop is outside the front door.
The airport is an approx. 20 min. cab ride (around $30) and it's a lot shorter than going by airport shuttle to central and then taking another train from there.
Please keep the common areas neat and tidy.
Check In and Check out times may be flexible.
It was my first experience with Airbnb and it was great! The apartment looks like on the pictures shown at the homepage. Every evening I liked coming back to this cosy place I called 'my home' for almost 7 months.
The bedroom was great. A big comfortable bed with a huge closet to store your clothes, shoes or even luggage cases. It was also suitable to have a balcony and I spent some relaxing evenings out there, watching the sunset and the airplanes approaching and departing from Sydney airport. The airport is only 10-15 minutes away by taxi, but I never felt disturbed by the aircraft noise.
The bathroom was next to the bedroom and it had enough space to store your things. It was very convenient.
The kitchen and the living room, with its winter garden (view to the pool and some parts of the city skyline) was very nice to hang out.
The walk to the train station was approximately 4 minutes and within 10 minutes by train I reached Central station and another 5 minutes by train, I reached Circular Quay, where you can walk to the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
Sydney Park, just opposite of the entrance of the residence, was one of my favorite places in Sydney. I sometimes went for a run or just walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere in this beautiful park with its hills. On top of the highest hill, you had a breathtaking 360 degree lookout. In front of you, you have the skyline and if you look back, you see parts of the airport.
I was really happy, I found this nice apartment. I will miss the swimming pool, the private gym and the bed. It was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in... :-))
Dagmar was a great hostess, very helpful and open for any questions I had. :-)
This was my first experience with AirBnB and it couldn't have been any better. I'm currently renovating my place and needed to stay somewhere else for a couple of days. Dagmar was a great choice. She was very warm and welcoming. The place is even more beautiful than in the pictures and very clean and tidy. It was the perfect place to recover from a couple of stressful days. She knows how to create a beautiful ambience and a relaxing atmosphere which was exactly what I needed. We had some nice chats and drinks and she couldn't have made my stay any more comfortable. Anyone who's ever been renovating knows how stressful it is and to be able to escape to what I can only call a sanctuary was bliss. I can highly recommend staying with Dagmar and am glad to say I got a great friendship out of it too.
Dagmar is a very nice person with a big sense of humor and very outgoing (maybe too much for some :-)). She loves to watch movies and tv series. Would stay there again.
Very clean and tidy apartment. Modern kitchen with almost all the facilities. Be aware that there is no microwave present, you'll need to reheat leftovers with a pan.
If you have been in Australia before, you'll know that Internet is very slow compared to international broadband standards, but there is nothing you can do about that. Her old router needs an upgrade as well, cause you'll have no reception with your smartphone in your bedroom, often not even in the living room (laptop is ok), it's comparable with typical hotel internet (irregularly sluggish). Since I was there for 3 months and I had to use Skype with my phone, I bought a signal amplifier for my room.
Bedroom has a lot of storage room behind the big mirror doors. Double queen size bed with four pillows. Mattress was a bit too hard for me though. Your personal terrace has a spectacular view on the city's electricity transformers.
Very nice bathroom, but bath is too small for tall people (I am 191cm). The built-in shower will do the trick.
The block is located next to a busy road, so if you're not used to the sound of traffic it might become your daily alarm clock. The city centre is just 8-10 minutes with the train, St.-Peters Station is a 2 min walk away from the apartment. Bus stops are very close by as well.
Dagmar was really nice and welcoming. The apartment was exactly like on the pictures everything was neat and tidy. In all it was great! Thank you again for the tips and help!
I had a great stay with Dagmar. She is great host, even cooked diner on the last evening and advised several nice walks in the Sydney area. The apartment and room are convenient and in a location close to the train ( direct connection to CBD) and a bus stop to coogee beach. The swimming pool in the complex is great for relaxing. It was my first experience with airbnb and can recommend it.
I was a fellow traveller for quite some years in search of the country I would like to settle in. Once I arrived in Sydney I knew I had found what I was looking for. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is such an amazing and diverse place.
If I can help you experience the city at it's best by trying to make your stay special then I'm happy. I can direct you to spots that you would not find out via the usual tourist channels.
If you're on a business trip and come back from a conference or day at work then you'll appreciate the ambience my place has to offer. Happy to share a meal and glass of wine with anyone and if you don't want that that's fine too. I'm pretty easy going in that respect as I do have my own social life but am always offering and leaving it up to the people if they want to join or not.
I love this city and the many festivals and events that happen every year, the variety of restaurant cuisine from all over the world offered up the road on King St, Newtown. Anything from African, Korean, Thai, European cosmopolitan to Mexican etc. And to make it even better - they're not expensive. I appreciate going for a drink to the many wine bars and just listen to music. That's just a bit about myself and what I like.
I'm hoping that sharing my home with people via AirBnB will help me seeing my family more often which all happen to be living back in Germany.
I look forward to meeting you!
