Originally a factory (textile and paper likely) the building was converted to apartments about 30 years ago. It retains a bit of an industrial feel and it's rough around the edges while being comfortable on the inside. It's true NY style living and that's what we love about it.
The loft is on the third floor - the top floor of the building. It gets great light, but can get hot in the summer. We have plenty of fans and there is air conditioning in the bedrooms.
Boerum Hill is one of the most desirable neighborhoods in Brooklyn. It’s filled with beautiful brownstone/ town homes on tree-lined streets, neighborhood storefronts and amazing backyards if you can get invited into one. Be sure to wave if you see our favorite neighbors Keri Russell and ???. Our block is on the edge of Gowanus and a little grittier, but that's what you get when you live in a converted factory. It's safe and worth it for the extra space.
Smith Street is the main strip in Boerum Hill which has been referred to as Brooklyn's "restaurant row" - ton of restaurants, bars, boutiques, markets and coffee shops. Court Street is one block further and boasts even more shops, restaurants and a Trader Joes. On the other sides are 5th Ave in Park Slope, Atlantic Avenue on your way to downtown Brooklyn and the Barclays Center, and the Gowanus bars and restaurants of 3rd Ave.
The best thing about this neighborhood is that on top of being an outstanding neighborhood, it’s completely surrounded by the other best neighborhoods in Brooklyn. We are a short walk from Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, Prospect Heights and up-and-coming Gowanus.
We are not exaggerating; the apartment is probably in the most convenient location in Brooklyn. The apartment is just a 5-10 minute walk to:
Atlantic Avenue / Barclays Station

Kevin and Casey live in what we think is the best place ever. So much so that it's hard even imagine ever leaving NYC. Sometimes we dream of other places but then we say...but how could we leave this apt?
Kevin is an industrial designer with experience building sets for Lady Gaga music videos, painting portraits of his past roommates and constructing lots of furniture for the apt. Casey is a public service consultant who currently splits his time between NYC and LA. He insists on keeping the apt filled with plants even even if he isn't always there to water them.
We both love semi-healthy food, karaoke, biking, running and more recently surfing in queens.
