  • We just returned from our trip to Cahuita and Casa verde. We could not of asked for a better vacation. Annie was a wonderful host. She met us at the gate and showed us around the house when we first arrived. We spent a lot of time on the front porch watching the lizards, hummingbirds, frogs, and other sorts of wildlife. Annie recommended a few places and was always available to help us.

One tip I have for everyone is if you are going to exchange your money exchange it somewhere outside of the airport. The banks do not charge a fee and are a much better rate. We went to a bank at the walmart in San Jose. The rate was 496 colones =$1. The rate at the airport was 436 colones = $1. There is a bank and ATM in Cahuita that is easy to walk to.

The reggae bar just down the main road to the left had a BBQ and band on Friday night that was excellent. There were a good mix of locals and tourists. Also, next to the police station there is a Italian restaurant that we had pizza at. We were skeptical at first but the owner is from Italy and makes an excellent pizza.

We spent a lot of time at the beach just relaxing. It is nice that the beach is so close to the house.

The bus to Puerto Viejo is 1500 Colones. Annie has a schedule for you at the house. Very easy to take.

We spent a day hiking through the rainforest. It is a short walk through town to get there. We opted for a guide. This turned out to be an excellent choice. He showed us snakes, sloths, and iguanas we never would of seen without him. We also saw howler and Capuchin monkeys. We saw one Capuchin cracking a coconut and when he dropped it from the tree we were able to grab the coconut and hand it to him.

If you are looking in to Cahuita then you know that it is roughly 4 hours from San Jose. There is no way around that besides taking a small plane. However, Willies tours in town offers a rafting tour in which you would spend 2 days on the river and then they would drop you at a hotel in San Jose the night before your flight out. This way you dont lose a day traveling back to the airport. Just a recommendation from my end.

Overall, Cahuita and Casa Verde are an amazing place and we will be back. We could not of asked for a better time.

  • This house is GREAT! I know it's been said in other posts but it truly is better than the pictures. I stayed 5 nights with 2 friends to start of the new year and celebrate my birthday. Annie was the perfect host and very helpful with recommendations and making sure we were all set in the house. The house is located near the town soccer field (it stays quiet but we caught the match during our stay which was cool to see) and is about a 3 minute walk to the beach and about 15 minutes to town where you can find a couple markets and several restaurants (Be sure to eat at Coco's in town and Sobre Las Olas right around the corner from the house). Cahuita is a quite town, the locals are friendly and helpful.

If you are looking for nightlife, which we were, head to the next town over Puerto Viejo, it's a 25 minute cab or bus ride but worth it. Several bars and "discos" to visit every night of the week, my favorite was Lazy Mon.

This was my first time to Costa Rica, the Caribbean side is the place to be, Cahuita and Puerto Viejo are awesome and this house was perfect, couldn't ask for more.

  • Beautiful and original beach house with a fully equipped kitchen if you like cooking on holiday ( I do so I appreciated a lot!). Though Annie was not there she was very helpfull and she tried to solve my coffee maker problem as quickly as possible ! I was brought a New Italian coffeemaker ( yummy for coffee addicts!) at the restaurant nearby the same evening!
The house is quite big and has very confortable beds , there is aircon upstairs which is very convient for an hour just before going to sleep. and there are very big silent fans downstairs.
it is well situated as you can do everything thing in walking distance Cahuita is small touristy town and the entrance to Cahuita park ( unforgettablre snorkeling and hiking) is only 700 meters away from the house. There are many other excursions you can do around and the beach is fabulous !
I would definitely come back or recommend to stay here again!
Thanks Annie for everything and sharing this place!

  • Wow! I stayed at Casa Verde for 10 days in October with my partner, and highly recommend staying here. Thanks to Annie's guidance, we arrived easily despite not renting a car. Every aspect of our stay was exceptional - from Annie's quick, detailed, thorough responses to all our questions, to the meticulously kept, beautiful house that is Casa Verde, to a comfortable, huge bed (and the AC was extremely pleasant)! There are even beach towels for you! Fiona was managing the house was we arrived, and was so friendly and helpful.

The house has tons of space and was way bigger than we needed, but felt very comfortable and safe. It was great to be able to walk to the beach and not have to bring even a daypack since it was so close. There's a great couch / lounging area and two hammocks in a covered patio that were perfect for us, plus additional outdoor seating (with a fan!). From the yard we saw a toucan, frogs, humming birds, and more. And just a few meters outside we stumbled upon a sloth hanging on some power lines one night while walking home.

Cahuita was a beautiful, small, dusty town with very friendly people, and we fell in love with it! Casa Verde is about a 10 minute walk from the middle of town, which offers some good restaurants (even spent a night eating pizza and watching one of the daily movies the restaurant projects), bars, small grocery stores, and another beach, not to mention national park. Peurto Viejo is a bit more of a scene, and was easy to reach via the hourly bus for day trips. We had such a wonderful stay, and would definitely come back to Casa Verde.

  • My son and I had a fabulous time in Cahuita at Casa Verde. The house is gorgeous (better than the pictures) and had everything we would need (comfy pillows, towels, kitchen stuff). I loved reading out in the hammocks. Annie is wonderful. She told us about things that were going on around town (farmer's market, reggae show) and made us feel very welcome. We ended up loving Cahuita. It was a ten minute walk to the town and had just the right amount of people. The beach was great and SO CLOSE. There aren't as many big waves as in other spots, making it perfect for swimming. Puerto Viejo is a short bus ride away if you want more action, but we really preferred Cahuita.

  • This house looks great in the photos but it is much more stunning in person. We could not have asked for a nicer more relaxing place to stay. Every detail of Casa Verde is beautiful, gorgeous wooden stairs and feature throughout with a modern design. My husband and I stayed there with our 18 month old son and he really enjoyed playing outside on the patio & front yard while we relaxed in the hammocks. We did not have the pleasure of meeting Annie as she was out of town. But Fiona was a great substitute. Very helpful and nice. The only tiny negative is that I didn't like the black sand beach, it was too wet and I felt like we were playing in dirt. I preferred to go farther into town where it was a nicer white sand beach.

  • This home absolutely exceeded our expectations. The home looks great in the pictures, but is even more gorgeous in person. I couldn't have been more excited upon arrival. Anne was an amazing host, she was super knowledgeable about all the best means of transportation and fun places to check out during our stay. Every morning we saw lots of wild life just outside of our front door! Cahuita is a cute little local town, that's full of awesome places to eat and relax, while being only a short bus ride from Puerto Viejo, where things are a bit more busy. If you're looking for the perfect place to stay on the Carribean coast of Costa Rica and are looking for something a bit more romantic and secluded, I would definitely recommend this home!

  • My partner and I stayed at Casa Verde from Friday, May 24, 2013 - Thursday, May 30, 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! This was our first trip to Costa Rica and Annie was helpful from the day that we booked the trip onward.

This is an adorable bungalow on the North side of the non-touristy little village of Cahuita. There are several good restaurants and plenty of opportunities to go on boat tours, snorkeling tours, deep sea fishing adventures, and jungle/rainforest hikes! If this isn't something of interest, then the beautiful black sand beaches of Cahuita are just 200 steps (approx.) away from this bungalow.

The bungalow has 2 beds, and 2 baths. We used the bedroom upstairs and the bathroom downstairs. There are two hammocks to lounge around in. It's fantastic hearing all of the wildlife surround the bungalow, especially while laying in a hammock.

Annie is a great host. She lives behind the bungalow and while you very rarely see her, she's always there if you need anything at all!

For this type of vacation, I would highly recommend staying here! The price is great. The experience is memorable.

  • Wow
The perfect vacation location for us. The beach house had the privacy and was close enough to the caribbean vibe that we were looking for. Annie answered every question we had, and was a joy to meet. Next time my girlfriend and I travel back to Costa Rica, we will be making a stop in Cahuita. Thank you.

  • Casa Verde is a lovely home situated on a quiet semi wooded street just a short distance from the black sand beaches of Cauita CR. we had a great time and felt well cared for by Annie in this very private medium to large and very comfortable solid safe feeling house. Many quirky details are really great such as the rustic staircase and the outdoor seating hammock area. There are several restaurants and a food store a stones throw away and the town proper is a short bike ride or 10 min walk away. Would very much recommend to anyone looking to visit the area!
