This is a great neighborhood with old shade trees, a community rail trail steps away, located in a country and peaceful atmosphere yet extremely convenient to all that New Paltz and its surrounding area has to offer, such as:
- the Shawangunk Ridge with the absolute most spectacular rock climbing, scrambling, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, biking and hiking east of the Rocky Mountains, with water holes, falls, streams, cascades, and spring fed glacial "sky" lakes --- the reason why I can't move away : ) --- you can access all this within a 5 to 20 minute drive!
- access to night life after an exhilarating day on the ski slopes of Hunter Mt. and Belleayre, each about 1 hour away
- being a college town in an outdoor enthusiast's paradise inspires an interesting mix of restaurants, cafes, bookstores, local shops, antique dealers, festivals, culture, and history, against an iconic mountain backdrop
- a sky diving ranch 5 minutes away
- historic Huguenot Street boasting the oldest stone houses in the country
- a nature sanctuary (adjacent to Huguenot Street) replete with wildlife and a huge variety of wild birds amidst serene wetland pathways
- a university with theaters, tennis courts, running tracks, museum and planetarium
- Mohonk Mountain House (Victorian-era castle) where you can dine and/or spa and/or ice skate in rustic elegance and luxury that is kind of indescribable
- the Walkway Over the Hudson (about a 15 minute drive) where you can experience from high above the water, the majesty of the mid-Hudson River

Other Things to Note
As some of the photos indicate, and as another section in this listing mentions, there are two kitties on the premises. They are indoor/outdoor and spend much of their time outside.
They have their own portals to enter and exit and the main part of the home (there's no litter box!) however, they cannot access this apartment without someone opening the door for them. In general, they spend a very minimal amount of time in this space and
folks with medium to mild cat allergies have stayed here with no problems!
Summertime: The property is well-shaded and this studio is often quite naturally cool in the summer!
There's a two-night minimum, however sometimes a one-night stay can be accommodated; feel free to inquire.
Smoke-free, shoe-free ( plenty of slippers available and there's an ashtray outside : )
I can't gush enough about how awesome our stay with Ami was. We arrived to a cute private studio apartment with more than an Air BnB guest could ask for. Wine, chocolate, cheese, farm fresh milk... The list goes on. After we already felt more than at home in the beautiful town of New Paltz Ami surprised us with fresh baked muffins every morning. Cute place and a wonderful host. Couldn't have been happier.
we had a great time in Ami's rental. As others have described, there was a bottle of wine, cheese, eggs, milk, grapes and fresh flowers waiting for
us when we arrived. Ami was the perfect level of involved in our stay and respectful of our privacy. the studio itself was clean and equipped with everything we needed. he was extremely hospitable and left all sorts of goodies to make us feel welcome. the view was beautiful to enjoy and we made use of his loner bicycles. the location was also great, 5 min drive from town. our first airbnb and will be using again.
Ami and Reagan were both great! Ami was very helpful with providing information, bikes for us to ride, passes to Mohonk, wine and a warm atmosphere. The view from the private patio is fantastic, esp if you're an early riser and just want to sit outside with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view.
And Reagan baked the most INSANE muffins for us Saturday morning. Seriously, I had to get the recipe from her because they were so so good!
A very restful and fun weekend had by all! Thanks to you both!
Ami is an amazing host. I have stayed in other Airbnb rentals, but this one was by far my favorite. Ami's place is located perfectly in New Paltz. It's in the woods so it's nice and quiet, at the same time, yo are only 5-min drive away from the town center, so it's quite convenient. We got to our rental late at night, Ami provided awesome directions for the check-in so we didn't have any problems. We were so delighted when we got to the place - Ami had a bottle of wine ready for us, along w/ chocolate & cheese. What else could you ask for after a long drive from the city? The place is full of charm & warmth. We felt comfortable & relaxed immediately. I highly highly recommend this place to anyone who needs a place to stay in New Paltz. Location is excellent, place is clean & warm, and Ami is an outstanding host who goes out of his way to make sure his guests are happy. My wife and I already talked about booking this place for our next trip. It's such a lovely place. Thank you Ami for making our weekends so nice & special. We will be back
My stay at Ami's was extremely enjoyable. He greeted me to get me settled in. There was wine, chocolate, cheese and fresh berries upon arrival. The surroundings were beautiful and I found it a great way to unplug and unwind after a hectic work week. I spent some time relaxing in the hammock outside my door and ate breakfast on the patio. Oh, don't let me forget...Ami provided some freshly baked muffins.
Ami is a wonderful hosts. As others have said he left fresh berries, delicious milk (really unbelievable quality) and eggs, homemade kombucha, chocolate, snacks and wine! Oh and fresh corn, veggies and beautiful flowers. This was so wonderful to receive after a long car ride! In my opinion his hosting style is perfect; he was there when we arrived and made us feel welcome, but gave us space and privacy throughout the visit. He was easy to reach if we needed him and even brought us umbrellas as he knew we were looking forward to walking into town.
The place itself is set on a beautiful piece of property. We rented the studio apartment. The beds were super comfy and because the place itself is dark, sleeping in was a nice treat (even our 3 mnth old baby slept until 10 am!!). It may be helpful for some to know that the studio is sort of a basement space. It is very nicely done, but it's pretty dark and a little dank. It feels extremely private and even has it's own private outdoor patio over looking a jungle like glen (we saw a beautiful deer just 10 feet away, you could see the fuzz on his antlers- so cool!). The patio doesn't get any direct sunlight because it is nestled under the porch. This worked out great for us because it was a little rainy and provided us with a shelter. Ami offered that we could also use the deck upstairs (I can imagine this could be nice for basking in the sun), but we really had no need.
The place itself is a good mile from town. We are pretty fast walkers and it took us a good half hour. It was easy enough, but I can see bikes being a good way to check the area out (bikes were available, but we have a baby).
Overall, it's a great place and Ami is a terrific host. We would definitely stay here again!
