The flat suits a family with 2 kids, or up to max. 5 persons. It is child-friendly with all amenities (high chair, baby cot, toys; and changing table if needed).

85 m² apartment with 15 m² terrace on the 3rd floor (no elevator), on rue de la Roquette in the Bastille area in Paris' 11th arrondissement. Metros: Voltaire (line 9), Breguet-Sabin (line 5), Bastille (lines 1, 5, 8).

The apartment is 85 m² with 3 bedrooms. One large bedroom with ensuite terrace and a large double bed (180 x 200 cm / 71 x 79 inches, bought October 2012). One guest bedroom, with a double sofa bed (140 x 200 cm / 55 x 79 inches) that has a quality mattress. One large kid's bedroom with a single bed (90 x 190 cm / 35 x 75 inches, could sleep one adult). There are two bathrooms: one with toilet, sink and bathtub, the other with shower and sink. Large open plan dining room, kitchen and living room.

15 m² west-facing terrace with afternoon sun, is equipped with wooden table and 4 chairs, plus 2 deck chairs.

Wi-fi, landline phone, large TV and DVD/blu-ray player, well-equipped kitchen with all amenities, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine/drier.

The apartment has new parquet floors and was repainted in December 2011. Most of the furniture and electrical appliances were purchased within the last 2-3 years.

The flat is quiet due to double glazing and with the two main bedrooms facing the courtyard.

The flat is perfectly safe - 2 gates incl. an interphone/magnet before you reach the entrance door to the apartment.

The flat comes with Colombo the Cat; a peaceful, low maintenance buddhist type. Food and litter is provided. He just needs food and water refilled daily and his cat litter emptied once every three-four days.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the entire flat and all amenities.

Interaction with Guests

We are always very responsive to email and phone calls. Since we only rent out the flat when we go on vacation, we will not be present at the flat during your stay. Depending on your arrival and departure time, and ours, we may or may not be able to meet in person to hand over keys. If not, you will get the keys from people living near us.

The Neighborhood

Rue de la Roquette is a vibrant street in the centre of Paris with all conveniences nearby, many excellent cafés, bars, restaurants, theatre, and the Bastille Opera. Excellent food market nearby on Thursdays and Sundays. The neighborhood has several supermarkets, organic food shops, a greengrocer, bakeries, and shopping (website hidden) areas (also for kids) include the Square de la Roquette, Square Gardette, Square Trousseau, and Promenade Plantée a.k.a. Coulée Verte.

We have added a couple of our favourite neighborhood places, and some of the main tourist sights, in the airbnb guidebook. For the other myriad things to see and do in Paris, see a tourist guidebook. We will be happy to provide suggestions if you have any specific needs or wishes.

Getting around

5-10 minute walk to metros/subway: Voltaire (line 9), Breguet-Sabin (line 5), Bastille (lines 1, 5, 8).

Parking is not included.

How to get from the flat to the airport: detailed instructions will be emailed to you, but in short, there are two airports. From the Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport, take RER B to Gare du Nord, then metro line 5 (direction Place d'Italie) to Bastille, and walk to the flat. From the Paris Orly (ORY) airport, take shuttle bus to RER C stop, then RER C to Gare d'Austerlitz, then metro line 5 (direction Bobigny-Pablo Picasso) to Bastille, then walk to the flat.

Should you be arriving by train to Gare du Nord, take metro line 5 (direction Place d'Italie) to Bastille, then walk to the flat. For train arrivals to other train stations: we will inform you by email.

Other Things to Note

The flat comes with our cat, Colombo. Guests are asked to feed him daily and change his litter twice a week.

  • We just completed a wonderful stay in Paris in part due to the great accommodations provided by Morten and his family. Communication from booking through our stay was easy and Morten was responsive to any and all questions we had. The flat is located in a great section of Paris with tons of cafes, grocery stores and other shops nearby. The Paris metro is a quick walk and once there you are connected to anywhere in the city. Some days we took the metro but because the flat was relatively close in we also took some leisurely walks into some of the main sites (e.g. Notre Dame). The flat itself was quite spacious for being in the heart of the city. We traveled with 3 adults and 1 small child. The main room fit 2 of the adults quite well and the attached terrace made the room feel "bigger". The flat was also well set up for a child with one of the three rooms being set up for a small child. Shared spaces including the kitchen/dining area and the living area were nice to have and relax in after a day exploring in the city. All in all, we were quite pleased with the flat itself and the support provided by Morten to ensure we had a great stay!

  • Staying at Morten and Deborah's place was lovely.

Located in a great spot in Paris, my partner and I felt right at home in their spacious and tasteful flat. We were greeted at the door by Colombo the cat who turned out to be a great host.

With easy metro access and lovely cafes and restaurants, we had no problem keeping ourselves occupied.

Even though we didn't get a chance to meet Morten in person, he was a great communicator by phone and email. Questions were answered immediately.

    A great place to stay!

  • I rented this flat for my aunt and her family. It was their first trip to Paris (and Europe for that matter) and I wanted them to stay in a great neighborhood. They loved it! This is her brief review of Morten's flat in Paris:

"It was very nice! Bed was comfortable and all around comfy place.
There was quite a bit of cat hair (and we're not used to cats) but we managed. Clean apartment, great neighborhood!"

So there you have it, short and sweet review. Thank you Morten for all your help. I think they'll be back for sure!

Response from Morten (& Deborah & Jonathan & Alma):

Cat hairs can be removed quickly using a rubber glove (which creates static electricity so the cat hairs bundle up) and our hand-hoover. Thanks.

  • Very nice and spacious place, very good location, very clean. Nice owner. We had a very good time at his place and would go back anytime.

  • We stayed 4 nights at Morton's place with family and friends, the apartment is very well located, fully equipped, comfy and clean. There are several nice restaurants and bars around, metro station is just 5 mins away. Since our first contact through airbnb, Morton took care well of us, and gave us lots of useful information for daily life in his apartment. All in all, everything went smooth and we had a very good time staying at Morton's place.

  • I stayed at Morten's apartment with two close friends for a weekend in Paris. The apartment is in a great location - right between the Bastille and Voltaire metro stops, easy access to great restaurants, shops, and bars, and a 30 minute walk to Hotel de Ville. The apartment was very clean when we arrived and Morten made it very easy for us to get our keys, even though we arrived rather late on Friday evening. Tons of space, as well - we each had our own bedroom! Furthermore, one of my friends left her necklace at the apartment and Morten very graciously offered to mail it back to us at no cost to her.

Just a few things to note:

Our beds were not made when we arrived, and while it was nice to know that we had fresh sheets, it's something different from the other Airbnb apartments I've stayed in.

Also, if you're sleeping in the guest room (the one right on the street), the noise can be overwhelming. I'm a pretty heavy sleeper, but I was kept up all night by the people screaming (literally) on the street. My friends, who were sleeping in rooms at the back of the apartment, said that they heard the people while they were falling asleep but it didn't keep them up, so as long as you're not using all three rooms it should be fine. They did mention, however, that they could hear the family (with a baby) above them...thin walls :)

Overall, we had a great time in Paris and would gladly stay at Morten's apartment again!

Response from Morten (& Deborah & Jonathan & Alma):

We will make the bed (with fresh sheets) for future guests. Street noises
in the guest room can be reduced significantly by pulling down the
shutters. All the flat's windows has shutters. The walls in my opinion are
not unusually thin for Parisian standards. As for potential noise from
babies or other people in the building: in my experience, that is a rare
annoyance in our flat. The only other thing that can be done about it is
    wearing earplugs.

  • I was in Motren’s apartment with two friends a 8 days in August.
The apartment is in a prime location, just minutes from the metro station Bastille. From there, the whole Paris is your ... Flat is a great big, full of light, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen(dishwasher, microwave, hi-tech cooker),excellent fast (website hidden) home feel and the charm of Paris and Scandinavian practicality. 80m2 in Paris with a large terrace is not common. The apartment has three bedrooms and a large living room, dining room, kitchen, and big terrace with beautiful views of the roofs of Paris and the Paris sky. Area where the apartment is completely safe, so during the day and any time of night.
There's a lot of shops, bakeries, restaurants,Siene river, classic Parisian bistros that are created to enjoy ..
There was with us was their cat Colombo, which is beautiful, good, and I really enjoyed playing with her.
I was not able to meet Morten because he was outside of Paris with his family on vacation, but that was no problem because Morten is so well organized everything. Key of the apartment gave us his friends. With Morten I was in constant contact via email or sms and every time it was ready for help or advice about coping in Paris. I didn’t see a man, but in communication whit him I easily get the impression that this is polite and responsible person.
The apartment is very clean and feels positively energy ... Maybe in one sentence really paid off, stay in Morten's flat financially and in every other way, we simply enjoyed there. If I come back to Paris(I have to), I hope that it will be again in this apartment.
Thank you-Tak- Merci beaucoup Morten & Deborah.

  • Highly recommended!

Last minute I decided to take three teens ages 14, 15 and 16 to Paris and was lucky enough to find Morten's apartment on a very lively street with lots of shops and restaurants. Metro stops very close by, so it was a good location for sightseeing Paris. Walking to the Seine and its tourist attractions was very doable as well.

The apartment is fabulous: modern, clean, safe, spacious (!) with all conveniences (dishwasher, microwave, washer, etc) and all four of us were very comfortable. Especially loved the different coffee and tea making capabilities the place afforded. Very child-friendly place for all ages.

The cat Colombo is adorable and easy to take care of. Missing our pets, we recharged our batteries on pet-love.

Communication with Morten was excellent which made for a very straightforward, reliable and pleasant transaction.

Overall we want to thank Morten, Deborah and son for sharing their wonderful place with us and hope to visit again in the future.
