I have a spacious, light-filled one bedroom apartment with a large living room, sleeper sofa and complete kitchen with dishwasher, plus separate office/drawing studio available often for 30 day rentals, or potentially for swaps.
The floor plan is very open, so the place is airy and much roomier than most New York apartments. The bedroom has a double bed and ceiling fan and is very comfy. It has parquee floors, some exposed brick and wonderful light throughout. It's a very old building, with pressed tin ceilings and genuine charm. The drawing room has a huge drawing table and not much else, so you can get lots of work done, and/or do your yoga. The living room sofa pulls out to sleep 2. Big kitchen table with 8 chairs. It has wifi but no tv. It is decorated eclectically, with lots of original art. There is a full bath with a big bathtub and great water pressure.
Also - There is a huge and glorious deck. I have a grill and even a meat smoker, if you're up for some outdoor cooking.
The apartment is on the second floor, in the heart of the hottest section of Williamsburg. On this block is an Italian restaurant, an experimental sushi place, an Arepas bar, Chinese dumplings, a WIFI coffee house, a spa, cute dress shops and two high-end menswear stores. There are also several bars, including one sports bar 2 doors down whose backyard can get pretty animated during big games.
This neighborhood boasts over 300 restaurants within walking distance. There is a little movie theater that serves food and cocktails specifically themed to the main feature, as well as brand new main stream theater right on this street. A few blocks away, there is a flea market every Saturday and a food festival every Sunday. Oh, and there is a laundromat right next door. Directly across the street - 10 feet from the front door - is a Citi-bike station for bicycle rentals.
The place is 3 blocks from Bedford Avenue, which is the main, very stylish shopping drag, although the whole neighborhood has filled up with wonderful places. It's 8 blocks to the L train, so it's very convenient and direct to Manhattan - 15 minutes to Union Square. It's a 15 minute walk to McCarren park, which hosts a farmer's market on Saturdays and this summer opened a gigantic, gorgeous public (free!) swimming pool.
If you do a search for "free williamsburg," there's a comprehensive website telling you all of the local attractions and restaurants in the area.

I did not have a chance to meet George as she was out of town. Nevertheless, I have the feeling I have met her as she was always checking that everything went smoothly and that I felt comfortable in her flat. The flat is decorated with a wonderful taste. I really considered the place my home while in New York. This is a wonderful impression when one travels a lot. Thank you George. I will come back without hesitation to her flat.
The apartment is eclectic and arty, spacious and light.
A month's stay at George's apartment provided us with ready access to cosmopolitan Williamsburg, and great subway connections from Bedford and Marcy, to Manhattan.
The surrounding area abounds with restaurants offering many cuisines (Millers was our favourite for both food and service), cafes (best coffee at Oslo) and the supermarket on Third was excellent, with friendly and helpful staff.
Bearing in mind that the apartment is located in a mixed residential and commercial area, noise from the street was variable, although generally okay. The sports bar, three doors away, was very noisy on football nights, with noise coming from both the street and also the back garden outside bar area, however with the door to the deck closed, noise from the bar was minimised.
We appreciated the warmth of George's welcome and also that she checked in via sms, from time to time, to see if we needed anything. We enjoyed caring for her plants and garden.
I stayed in George's lovely apartment with 1-3 others over a period of four weeks. The apartment was beautiful and just as described. Four of us fit comfortably on the big bed and comfortable foldout. The apartment is so airy and filled with light and the deck is the perfect place to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine.
The neighbourhood really is vibrant and full of shops, bars and restaurants. We felt safe the entire time in the area, and it was very easy to access Manhattan as well as the other boroughs via the multiple subway stations which are near.
George was lovely and able to help with any issues we had. I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone looking to stay in the area.
My parents came in NYC end of may to visit me and we were looking for a place in this neighborhood as I live close by. And this was the perfect place. First of all it was a pleasure to meet George, we met before booking and it directly went well. George is a lovely and warm person, she knows the neighborhood and is perfect to give you tips for places around. She even printed a list of her favorite places to accommodate her guests. About the apartment, it is gorgeous and very well decorated. You know there's life here and it makes you feel welcomed. Plenty of natural light and great atmosphere. My lil sister slept on the bed-couch (?) for the 5 nights and told me she felt like in a bed. Larger room is also perfect and the terrace.... definitely a spot you want to hang out in when summer is coming! They had a lot of fun here and I had the chance to enjoy it a well so I'd like to thank George for the week. Definitely the place I'd book if my parents or friends would come back.
We had a wonderful time in George's appartment. It was roomy, nicely decorated with all kinds of small personal art objects, which we really liked. Slept really good in the big bed. George has been very helpful and hospitable and made us feel really welcome. She had put fresh juice and milk in the fridge and even put fresh flowers on the table! Really, really great. The location is perfect, in the middle of cool Williamsburg and close to the L line.
We would recommend this place to anyone, and hope we can come back sometime. Thanks George!
My boyfriend and I had the privilege of staying in George's flat, and the only down-side was that our stay was too short! We only stayed for two nights but in that short time it has convinced us that we need to make a return trip to Brooklyn asap.
The flat was extremely spacious, with a lovely terrace which allowed us to enjoy the weather. The decor was what originally grabbed me when I picked apartment and I think it looks even lovelier in reality. Artistically and tastefully decorated, and it's clear that George is someone that pays a lot of attention to detail.
George is a very considerate host and she made a point of contacting me before I made my trip to find out what type of activities I enjoyed. She then made recommendations of thins to do in the area based on my interests. She also provided snacks and drinks for us which was a welcome surprise and certainly not what we were expecting.
The neighbourhood is great and full of interestign cafes and bars and a lot of entertainment if you enjoy live music.
All in all I would highly recommend and would like to say a big thank you to George for allowing us to stay in her lovely home.
George's apartment is right in the middle of everything and is a very cool and authentic NY experience. Lovely bohemian/artsy vibe. We stayed there with our two year old and 8 week old and the space was great meaning that even with our stroller, copious amount of baggage, childseats etc. we never felt crowded. The deck was a godsend in terms of letting our little fella have a run around and a nice place to enjoy an al fresco breakfast. George is super friendly and very easy to deal with. She was out of town when we arrived and I was met by a friend who was very pleasant and informative. All in all very pleasant stay was had by all. Happy guests.
George was pleasant to deal with over the phone. I didn't meet her, but she enlisted a friend to give her key to our son who lives in Brooklyn. The apartment was very interesting. However, because my husband has Parkinsons' (which I didn't mention), the stairs were difficult to walk up (2nd floor), and the tub was too hard for him to use.
I would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone who is not handicapped.
