About this listing
I have a spacious, light-filled one bedroom apartment with a large living room, sleeper sofa and complete kitchen with dishwasher, plus separate office/drawing studio available often for 30 day rentals, or potentially for swaps.
The floor plan is very open, so the place is airy and much roomier than most New York apartments. The bedroom has a double bed and ceiling fan and is very comfy. It has parquee floors, some exposed brick and wonderful light throughout. It's a very old building, with pressed tin ceilings and genuine charm. The drawing room has a huge drawing table and not much else, so you can get lots of work done, and/or do your yoga. The living room sofa pulls out to sleep 2. Big kitchen table with 8 chairs. It has wifi but no tv. It is decorated eclectically, with lots of original art. There is a full bath with a big bathtub and great water pressure.
Also - There is a huge and glorious deck. I have a grill and even a meat smoker, if you're up for some outdoor cooking. Some guests have mentioned the deck is not great for a quiet dinner if there's a big game playing in the sports bar next door, but other guests enjoyed the vibrant energy. It's especially lovely for coffee or breakfast when the city is still quiet.
The apartment is on the second floor, in the heart of the hottest section of Williamsburg. On this block is an Italian restaurant, an experimental sushi place, an Arepas bar, Chinese dumplings, a WIFI coffee house, a spa, cute dress shops and two high-end menswear stores. There are also several bars, including one sports bar 2 doors down whose backyard now extends to next door and can get pretty animated during big games. They are good about quieting down by eleven or midnight, though.
There's a citibike rental station directly in front of my door. Walk outside, hop on a bike.
This neighborhood boasts over 300 restaurants within walking distance. There is a little movie theater that serves food and cocktails specifically themed to the main feature, as well as brand new main stream theater right on this street. A few blocks away, there is a flea market every Saturday and a food festival every Sunday. Oh, and there is a laundromat right next door.
The place is 3 blocks from Bedford Avenue, which is the main, very stylish shopping drag, although the whole neighborhood has filled up with wonderful places. It's 8 blocks to the L train and 8 blocks to the JMZ, so it's very convenient and direct to Manhattan - 15 minutes to Union Square. It's a 15 minute walk to McCarren park, which hosts a farmer's market on Saturdays and last summer opened a gigantic, gorgeous public (free!) swimming pool.
If you do a search for "free williamsburg," there's a comprehensive website telling you all of the local attractions and restaurants in the area.
8 blocks to L train and 8 blocks to JMZ.
Please water the plants every few days.
Absolutely no smoking inside, but there is a deck.
In case you have allergies, you should know I have a little dog (he won't be here while you are), but I'm sorry, you can't bring your pets.
Small dinner parties ok, but no "party" parties, please.
Absolutely no film shoots of any sort are permitted.
Lock the back gate whenever you leave the building, and please make sure to pull the downstairs door to the building closed behind you.
Holler if you have any questions, and please make yourself at home!
A cosy apartment – like living in a art exhibition. A wonderful, caretaking host – you rent a place and fell like you’ve made a friend. A nice neighborhood – I ditched a lot of my tourist plans to experience it.
I found the information I got here accurate.
Don’t miss it! (But don’t forget to bring out the recuycling garbage as I did.)
Me and my two friends stayed at George's for a week. The apartment is spacious and clean with a really cozy atmosphere, and it's located in one of the best parts of Brooklyn. Even though I did not get the chance to meet her in person since she was out of town, she managed to get us to feel right at home. George is a great host, she's nice and caring and you can feel that it is important for her that you will enjoy your stay. I can really recommend George and this cozy, artistic and spacious apartment. (Not to forget about the patio - a wonderful place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the mornings). I will definitely try to book George's place for my next stay!
super host, apartment and neighborhood! We've been to George's several times and love it. Thanks George!
George's apartment was perfect in every way. It's located near 2 Subway stations, so it's close to everything. The place is very cosy and nice, full of art and beautiful things. We sometimes didn't even want to leave. Also the private deck is fantasic! George is the best host. She left us snacks and was always ready to help out. A wonderful experience for us!
Old but cozy apartment, with great location. Good restaurants right round the corner, and just a short walk to the L train. Unfortunately the apartment deck was impossible to use due to the extremely noizy sportsbar in the backyard. The host was nice, she had some snacks waiting for us when we arrived which was really sweet.
My friend and I traveled to Brooklyn recently and stayed at George's lovely Williamsburg apartment. The pictures are a very accurate depiction of her cute place. It's filled with a lot of light because there are windows on 2 sides of the building, it was cool and breezy there. It's very spacious for 2 people traveling together. There is a little street noise in the living room area-I didn't mind, but it's situated on the 2nd floor and is quite quiet overall, also felt safe and private. The deck located off of the back bedroom is amazing and definitely made it worth staying there. And location location location! George had some great nearby cafe recommendations, you've got to try 'Egg'!
George's apartment was great and she was a very attentive hostess. Thank you for a nice weekend in the city!
