Valley and garden views

Soak up the views during your stay.
A sun filled house on a hill, overlooking a small orchard, flying trapeze school, art garden & a mini stone henge. Located on Stone Mountain farm there are miles of hiking trails including the Hudson Valley Rail Trail. The Rail Trail cafe is just down the hill & serves delicious local food with excellent live music on summer weekends. The house is not fancy & quite old but comfortable, full of books, mythic art, surrounded by wild beauty and a thriving artists community.

The space
We are an artist community and host the Center for Symbolic Studies (a non-profit organization), 5th Wall Studio 'Flying Dance Theater' and Wild Arts Trapeze and Art Garden, along with other groups that come and go over the year.
We don't use pesticides and sprays to protect the bees and other delicate creatures on our farm- but the compromise is that bugs, mice and country life encroach on our houses. We do our best, but if that type of thing makes you uncomfortable you will have a better time elsewhere. If you are up for the adventure however you will love it! Also this house is still a work in progress. We are still improving and fixing it room by room, so please be patient while we're in process and know its not perfect.
The surrounding woods, fields, ponds and glorious cliffs are spectacular and singular. If you're looking for 'great outdoors' this is an excellent place for you! We do have ac and heat. We do our best to make you comfortable but this is not a luxury house. :) Also we are a community so there is a lot of activity on the farm and surrounding area. There is a 'garage' now converted to artist live space right next door. Also our outdoor stage is just down the hill and there may be dance or 'Fly' classes held in the event area. Please respect areas that are listed as private.
The Rail Trail cafe is just down the hill so sound may carry up from their little stage. Typical cafe events include Sunday morning (11am earliest) Kirtan's which is like a group song meditation, eclectic world beat music and local singer song writers.

Guest access
You'll have access to the whole house and farm but please be respectful of classes you come upon while wandering the land.

Other things to note
The Rail Trail cafe is open Weekends in the summer, and offers delicious, locally grown food. There are also music or story telling events there on Friday and Saturday evenings. We also have other performances and workshops happening around the farm. Give me a shout or check our website if you have questions. We have horses, cats, dogs and chickens as well as many gardens nearby. You are always welcome to say hello to any of our furry neighbors. Please don't feed the horses, certain things aren't good for them. If you're allergic to pet hair (or wood smoke) this is probably not a good place for you. But if you have a well-mannered furry friend you'd like to bring along please do! However, please keep your pets on leash. There are lots of children and other animals to interact with and sometimes animal chemistry is unpredictable. We also are home to The Center for Symbolic Studies. Go to SymbolicStudies.org for more information about our not-for-profit. or StoneMountainFarmNY.com for other information.

Neighborhood highlights

Rosendale- just outside New Paltz NY in the hudson valley- is full of cafes with delicious local food, fantastic antique stores, a great community-run movie theater and seasonal festivals all year round. Also we are just a few miles from Mohonk mountain house and excellent rock climbing, ice climbing, cross country skiing, hiking and swimming areas. Although, our favorite thing is just to walk in the miles and miles of woods and fields just outside the farm house door.

There is a My Town markey grocery store in Rosendale has conservative business hours. If you're coming in late we recommend stopping at Tops in New Paltz to get food and supplies.

We are a family. Robin and Stephen bought the land in the 60's and turned it into an intentional community that hosts outdoor hiking, art classes, theater and dance. We are also home to the Center for Symbolic Studies, a non-profit healing and performing arts center based on the works of Joseph Campbell and Stone Mountain Counseling Center a therapy and traumatic brain injury healing center. We are now called Stone Mountain Farm NY. We look forward to introducing you to our beautiful home!
