House - Private room · Reynolds Ln, Shady, NY 12409, United States

The Space

Rent this large bedroom, called the Lois room, in our house. Its has a queen size bed and its own bathroom. Private entry is through the front door. We are located near the town of Woodstock (3 miles), in the hamlet of Shady. It is country cozy and cool, with use of the pool and hot tub. We will accommodate up to three people in this room with the addition of a futon or air mattress (additional $25 per night.)
Wifi is available and we use only the finest sheets! We are near winter ski sights, the Bearsville Theatre, and the many hiking and biking routes of upstate NY. While you visit you can expect us to give you all the privacy you need, except if you need something from us, in which case, we are happy to oblige! The main house, called "Brock's House" after local artist Brock Brockenshaw, who lived in this house for 50 years, was built around 1800 and originally lived in by the owner of a nearby glass factory. Brock's art work graces the house and gardens as well as work by his wife, Louise Brockenshaw, who was a ceramist and tile maker. You can get to this site easily using Trailway bus service, which stops right at Reynolds Lane. We have bikes you can use and across the road on the property is a stream that you can use.

  • James is a perfect host! He is super prompt with his replies and upon arrival very patiently showed us the cottage and answered all our questions about the area. After that, he pretty much left us to our own and trusted that we would take care of the place. Throughout, he was kind and unobtrusive.

The best thing about the cottage is the pool and the hot tub! Imagine being in a hot tub surrounded by mountains - that was our experience! Everything worked perfectly in the cottage, the water was hot and the bed was comfy. We even got to use the electric BBQ grill that he had - twice. :)

Definitely an awesome summer experience for all of us. Thanks again James!

  • This was my frst Airbnb experience and it was wonderful. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful property and James was such a warm welcoming host. I would highly recommend the cabin. My only regret is that I did not have more time to spend at the pool!

  • Fantastic and worth every dollar!
We had a great weekend at the cottage of James.
James is a perfect owner and does all what he can to give his guests a good feeling and feel like at home.
The garden with the swimming pool, the hot tub, the apple trees and the sculptures is something unusual and we highly recommend to everyone who wants some quiet and peaceful time to visit James.

  • This was my first experience renting a house on airbnb and it was probably the best experience I ever had.
The property was more beautiful than I expected. The Cottage was located in a very peaceful area surrounded by bright green vegetation. The house was very clean and well equipped.
We were a group of 8 people and we spent most of the time by the pool and the hot tub.
James, was very very nice and all the time making sure we were having a good time. The last night we had dinner in the outdoor area in front of the fireplace, we hung out there and swim until late at night. We had a great time, we didn't want to leave! We will definitely come back.

  • This property is the most beautiful, tranquil place I've travelled to in this region. I now call it "The garden of Eden"
James was extraordinarily welcoming and accommodating from the moment we arrived. We were not renting rooms in the main house, rather the cottage in the yard. However, James allowed us free reign of the entire property, including the pool, hot tub, flower gardens and a peaceful gazebo buried in the side of the mountain. At night he started a warm fire, and set candles in the outdoor dining area where we enjoyed large group dinners and danced under the stars.
I even saw fireflies for the first time. There were hundreds of them in the flower garden!

There's even a picturesque river across the street perfect for swimming and lounging on rocks . This was not mentioned in the listing, and was a pleasant surprise.

The cottage is medium sized, and full of sunlight ( very important to me). The bedrooms are large, and the beds are comfortable-with plenty of blankets, towels etc...The kitchen is perfect for cooking and comes with everything you need-Utensils, 2 Blenders, Wine glasses, cook books and tea!...but if you prefer there's a BBQ right outside.

Last but no least it is conveniently located a 5minute drive from the Woodstock township!

I highly recommend you find the time to visit this enchanted little getaway.

  • A beautiful place! James is a kind and generous host, and the house and property are full of character and history. Loved all the original paintings and ceramics throughout the house. Enjoyed early morning swims in the pool everyday—the garden is sun drenched. Highly recommended!

  • My partner Michael stayed with James for a couple nights in the twin bedroom. James was a very welcoming and generous host, offering that Michael helps himself to the food in the kitchen. The room was very charming, clean and comfortable. The property was surrounded by gorgeous gardens, complete with a lovely pool and hot tub. James gave Michael a tour... the other rooms were even more delightful. Only a few minutes from Woodstock's main street, but it felt secluded. Well worth the price! We highly recommend it!

  • Fantastic time. James is an excellent host, and a fascinating person. His home is inviting, relaxing, cared for, loved. The gardens have been nurtured and developed over many years, as has the house. I had a wonderful weekend staying at the house, and engaged in several conversations that were very enjoyable with James.

  • The other reviews are spot on. We had a very good time, mostly thanks to James. He could not have been more friendly.

  • James is the kindest host you could find. The cottage was very clean and big enough for 8 people.
There is a kitchen in the cottage with almost everything you could need to cook, but he still let us borrow extra spices from his main kitchen.
Hunter Mountain is about 45 minutes away and Windham is about an hour away. If you just want to walk around and visit Woodstock, you can easily walk there and discover the town.
The best of it all was probably the hot tub, that stays warm 24/7! We had drinks under the stars at 1AM, it was the most magical experience (even though walking back to the house was probably the worst, since it was probably around 10 degrees...)
