Our family built this house together. We started with an empty lot and spent 4 years working on it full time. We basically built the entire house ourselves. We were not experienced, but learned as we went along. It is built of SIPS panels and utilizes passive solar. It is on a 2 acre lot, 5 miles from downtown Flagstaff. The front yard is Buffalo Park, a 215 acres park with a 2 Mile loop trail. 1/2 a block away are the National Forest Trails.
The house is made of many reclaimed materials. The exterior is trestle wood, from the Great Salt Lake and the counters in the kitchen are old train car floors. The wood floor is all reclaimed and the lights are made of whatever we could find. The house is very open, with a commercial kitchen you can use. There is also a commercial espresso machine. The patio looks out onto McMillian Mesa and Buffalo Park.
The house is filled with eclectic art from our travels and friends. Some of the furniture is made of left over material from our building project.
The room available is at the end of a long hall. There is an adjacent bathroom that is tiled in green glass. The bed is the most comfortable bed in the house. We decided to list our house after meeting so many great people that stayed at our Art Gallery through Airbnb.
You will most likely have piece and quiet at your stay. There is Bapple, an old Aussie Shepard and Lewis Stanley, a cat. We have 2 kids at home. Miles, the hockey player, is 13. Lily, the gymnast, is 10. We all love to cycle, ski/snowboard, rock climb, hike, and camp. If you like climbing, we have a great place to go bouldering that you are able to walk to.
We can accommodate families. Just let us know what you need.
We had a blast staying with Kari and Jeff and their family. You cannot imagine better hosts.
In Addition it is great place when you plan to visit the Red Rocks and the Grand Canyon. Moreover there are great Running Trails nearby.
Thank you Kari and Jeff . You built a very nice place and bring in it a nice spirit and good vibes. I wish you all the best.
This place is s(phone number hidden)cool. They built it themselves which is automatic bonus points, the layout is super open and industrial, with very beautiful and quirky art. Kari is a very interesting woman and her daughter is quite the little singer herself. The only thing is that if you leave the windows open and the lights on you're bound to get some pretty serious moth/bug action. I have souvenir moths still in my candle :) This place was in a lovely tucked away neighborhood really close to town, had every convenience and the room & bathroom were very clean and elegant. Highly recommended!
This is house is absolutely stunning! The pictures don't do the place justice. I loved every detail in their amazing house, it's modern, eclectic but extremely homey all at the same time. I arrived in flagstaff very very late and Kari was kind enough to accommodate and let me call the house when I arrived. I also saw Jack rabbit hopping around the forest surrounded the house — no wonder they call it Jack Rabbit Lane!
The room was the perfect size and I was able to sleep very well with the windows open in the breezy summer night. I was also able to see lots of stars out the windows.
In the morning, they made me coffee and I was able to hang out outside in the backyard. They are such an amazing family, I was only at the house for 8 hours until I went off to the grand canyon again. Wish I was staying longer!
Be careful driving there at night, you'll see a lot of deer by the highway — you don't want to hit them! Not only will you feel awfully guilty for hurting the poor thing, they can also leave your car very damaged.
Kari, Jeff and their two kids are great! Super nice people. Very flexible. Easy to be around and talk to. Wish we could have stayed longer (though we almost did when we locked our keys in the car as we were about to leave... :) ) The house is AMAZING!! pictures seriously do not do it justice. I was concerned about Arizona in the summer and imagined it would be blazing hot - absolutely not! Perfect weather and this house has tons of windows to let in the fresh cool air. I would recommend this house to anyone who is looking to stay in Flagstaff and/or making a trip to the Grand Canyon. I will be back to visit some day!
My husband and I were very privileged to have the opportunity to stay with Kari, Jeff, Miles and Lily in their amazing home. We were blown away by the design, interior and location of the house as well as the families personality and dynamic. We enjoyed many chats with Kari and her family, who were very helpful and made us feel at home. The accommodation was very clean, peaceful and comfortable. We enjoyed our short time here and we hope to visit again in the future.
A beautifully located, tastefully decorated, and hospitable self made special house. Only fantastic hosts could inhabit such a place. Close to town, which has a lot to offer. So does the surrounding nature. We highly recommend this place.
Kari and her husband were so kind to wait up for us! The house was amazing and Kari made us a wonderful breakfast in the morning. We were only there for the night, but wished we could have stayed longer. Beautiful property.
This was my second visit to Kari and Jeff's beautiful and unique mountain home in Flagstaff, Arizona. The home is a great place to use as a base for either business or pleasure in the northern part of Arizona. Both Kari and Jeff are wonderful hosts and are very knowledgeable about this mountaintop community. The room and bathroom are clean and the location is absolutely superb. The home is located in a very nice forest neighborhood just outside of the main part of Flagstaff and has great access to a magnificent park. I feel that because of Airbnb and the hosts, I now have a great place to stay in an incredible part of Arizona. I would highly recommend this place to individuals who seek a great opportunity to meet great people and stay in a unique setting. Mark G.
Jeff and Kari were awesome hosts! Their recommendations helped us enjoy Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. The breakfasts were amazing. We enjoyed getting to know them and staying in their art-filled spacious home.
