This is a quiet neighborhood where we know most of our neighbors.
CNN Money named the Heights as the most desirable neighborhood in Houston.
There are 3 Kroger stores about 1.5 miles away. If you are without a vehicle I can take you grocery shopping. I offer a "Help Yourself" breakfast, juice, muffins, yogurt fruit and more.
Less than a mile away are several very good restaurants highly recommended. The "main drag" of the Heights is about a mile north and west. Shops, ice cream stores, antiques and more places to eat.
Houston's place to be scene is 1.5 miles south on Washington Avenue with bars, cafes, clubs, and more restaurants. There is a shuttle so you can park once and party at multiple venues. Fitzgerald's is well know music venue a mile away.
There (email hidden)ly arts neighborhood here and plenty to do. The houses here are mostly 30's 40's bungalow style with some creative modern structures too
We have a great system of bike paths here too. I've had guests who brought their bikes. Also the new bike rental program is now in operation.
Public transit a block away takes you to the Museum District and several other museums off the path as well as downtown and connect to the expanding light rail.
My house is a mile or so from 3 major freeways :I-10, I-610 and I-45. You can get anywhere from here
You must like dogs as Duke, the resident hound, is going to be your friend for life. He's mostly interested in sleeping and performing for treats.
I've lived in Houston 40 years. If you want to know something, I probably have the answer. I give a great tour (please pay for gas) especially in you're interested in Architecture. I'll show you those things unique to Houston.
I've a great/eclectic collection of books and art you'll enjoy.
It was great to stay with Jim. Duke was wonderful also. He has a loud bark and is a good watchdog, but was very friendly once he got to know me. Duke is definitely a big part of the house and Jim's life. Jim made me some great soup and got a new blender even when i was there b/c i wanted to make smoothies and his old one wasn't working too well. He was very attentive and wanted to give a tour but I was working each night. The house is a duplex with a two car garage in the front (look for the Jiffy-Lube looking concrete house across the street).
Jim was an enthusiastic host and a good communicator. We only stayed at his house for an evening, but the neighborhood is really nice and would be worth returning to Houston to explore.
Jim was a gracious and informative host! His dog Duke and him were very inviting. The place was clean and comfortable. I would recommend a stay with Jim and Duke anytime!
I had a great time staying with Jim in Houston. His house is in a nice part of town: the Heights is a residential area and is safe and quiet. There's a bus stop at the end of his road with two buses going southbound, one to the downtown area, the other to the Montrose district (Menil art museum, Rothko chapel). (There are other bus routes that go near Jim's house.)
Jim is a fount of knowledge about Houston. He came up with some good suggestions for things for me to see and do during my stay.
The reservation was canceled 10 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jim was a very thoughtful host and his pup, Duke, was also quite the gentlemen and even had a handful of tricks to boast about! I don't suggest you get too close to Duke while eating, though. Like many hungry dogs, he seemed to be a little territorial but ultimately it was NO issue at all. Jim and Duke were both gracious hosts, allowing us (my girlfriend and I) to feel like we were in our own home during our stay. Jim had filled the fridge with many goodies and allowed us to store our bikes in his garage with out giving it a second thought.
Location was also a big plus! So many neat places to eat and drink just a short trip away. It was a great last minute alternative to a long, late night car ride back to San Antonio (home) as we hadn't planned on staying up until an hour before Jim opened up his home to us! Thanks, Jim!
This was our first experience with booking through air b-n-b, and we had a delightful time. We couldn't have asked for a more gracious host. Jim was a delight to get to know as well. After staying with Jim and Duke the dog, we both agreed it was the most restful sleep we had in Houston during our entire trip. We would most certainly stay with Jim next time were in Houston.
When booking on Air BnB, this is exactly the type of place you are hoping for: a gracious, charming host, a meticulously clean home, wonderful accommodations and a fantastic stay. I would highly recommend staying here with Jim!
This place has an excellent location and centrally located with a lot good food in the area. The host is very focused on trying to make you feel at home and meet your needs.
Jim is a very hospitable host and his dog is also extremely friendly. The room is lovely -- with a lot of interesting books.
Jim took us for a 4-hour tour in Houston, introduced us to the communities, their histories, the river and the Menil museum. We really couldn't expect anything better than this experience.
