This is the second unit in a property consisting of a villa ((listing "Unique 300 yr.old restored Villa") + Guest House, both estimated to be over 300 years old. The original structure has been restored and architecturally reinterpreted, incorporating both traditional and modern elements.
The Guest House is very unique in that it was originally the bakery oven of the village. In fact, the bedroom is the actual oven where barley rusks were made. Just off the bedroom is the bathroom. In addition, there is a living area and kitchenette with basic cooking facilities and direct access to the expansive terrace, shared with the villa.
The village of Mesa Gonia, or Episkopis Gonias, is very serene and tranquil, yet very close to Camari and the beautiful, black sand beach, restaurants, cafes, clubs, and shops. It boasts two wineries, and is home to the newly established Yellow Donkey Brewery. Take a stroll down and try out some of their great Yellow Donkey, Red Donkey or Crazy Donkey beer. Just down the road on the way to Camari is an utterly charming outdoor cinema, recently voted one of the top 25 in Europe. Besides showing the latest feature films (usually in English), they occasionally host live performances during the peak summer months.
Renting some kind of a vehicle is recommended (car, ATV, or motorbike) but local transport is available just down on the main road.
Just as we got to the island, the powerplant decided to go ahead and blow itself up Al Qaeda style.... three days without power over the whole island ensued...
nevertheless, Leanne was there, to help us out with candles for the dark nights. We had a beautiful stay, chatting with her and - let's not forget - Trixie, the cutest dog in the world. The house is truly sensational, if you want to be (a little bit) off the beaten track and enjoy the island without tourists, this is the place to be!!! As the island is quite small, scooters are enough to get around, and you're never more than half an hour away from some very unique experiences. But coming home to Mesa Gonia was a truly unique experience, the quiet and peace with everything this wonderful island has to offer within reach, being able to enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace overlooking where the "other poor tourists" were staying, grinning at each other and toasting to being able to stay in this place, it was an absolute marvel!!!! The studio is lovely, nothing was exagerated. We knew about the lack of privacy if you choose you stay there with children (no doors, bathroom accessible only through the main bedroom), but still it was a wonderfull experience!! Thank you so much, Leanne, for your kindness and good spirits, we will be sure to visit you again, the children are missing Trixie already (they want to adopt her!)
Very nice welcome from Lianne. She was always there if we needed something. The place inside is just what you need for 4 people ; outside there's a spacious patio. Besides, it's fun to sleep in an oven. No, heat wasn't on... 8-0
