This place was acceptable given it is HK we're talking about and for the price. Location wise was excellent, right across from the E exit TST station so wasn't difficult to find and right along Nathan Rd. Walking into the building can be a bit of shock given all different kinds of people just loitering about. The elevator to the reception was a few steps from the front entrance of the building but the reception itself was not clearly marked once you arrived on the 3F although you'll figure it out once you get there. The old guy at the desk didn't have my original room and wanted to charge me extra for a "family room" which I firmly but politely refused. He ended up giving me the room anyways and asked for a HK$200 cash deposit for the key and receipt which you forfeit if you lose either or both. The "family room" was in a different block so then going back down the elevator and walking further into the building would make weaker knees shake but just walk with a purpose and you should be fine. The "family room" had an extra "single" bed so could acomodate 2 people instead of one. The rooms are just big enough so you don't feel claustrophic but small enough you don't want to hang around. At least you have a private toilet right?! Anyways the shower/sink/toilet are almost on top of each other and there's just enough space for you to use all three without moving about. Don't even think about squeezing in 2 people into the same space however. Since I was only there for a few hours as I left early next AM, I was glad when morning came around as sleep was restless on the rock hard mattresses and the paper walls let in sounds from all directions. At least I didn't worry about safety in the room as there was a bolt lock in addition to the door lock. Going back to reception meant going back down one elevator and then back up the other elevator. Since I was leaving early around 7am, the reception was dark with the curtain drawn the old guy is behind there and you just need to knock on the glass. So upon leaving I was glad the stay was over and thankful the MTR station was right across the street. Would I stay here again? Perhaps. I knew what to expect going into this so wasn't shocked but for others who are coming in from other countries, just make sure you reset your expectations and you'll be fine. I guess it all depends on your budget and what you're happy to accept. For a quick overnighter like mine this is fine.
1. very convenient location in Tsim Sha Tsui
2. the single room is tidy (cleaned daily) though tiny
3. service is good: broken shower head was fixed on the same day
4. hot and cold drinking water available around the clock at the reception area--much appreciated
5. there is a community fridge to store food--this allowed me to store fresh milk for making my own coffee
The reservation was canceled 19 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
The chun king mansions is a much better and safer location than I expected (those rumours!). My room was kept clean every day and even when I didn't ask for it I had warm water. Hostel HK is on the third floor and rather than to wait five minutes on the elevator I was using the stairs every day without ever meeting strange or criminal people. All in all I was very satisfied.
Located in the most infamous building of Tsim Sha Tsui, but except for that, I had a really nice room, big with lots of space and a regular bed. Just found some very few ants in the room at the beggining, that didn't bother anymore after putting some toilet paper over the hole they came from. Also a small lizard came into my room through the air conditionner, but he was cool. The floor where was the hotel was okay, but you could find some roaches on the rest of the building, it's really just a place to sleep. The location was perfect.
Smell is bad. Toilet port is broken. Not good.
