Joubin was very friendly and accommodating. His apartment is very well-outfitted as well, with soft lighting and some custom furniture that he helped design.
The furniture is comfortable and there's lots of natural light through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The location is right in the middle of Old Port, so if you want to see the sights in Montreal it will be a good launch pad. A 20-minute walk will put you on Ste. Catherine, the busiest shopping street in Montreal, and the museum cluster in the city center.
The streets are pretty quiet at night as the area is not nightlife heavy or very residential. There's not much grocery shopping or casual eating nearby as the foot traffic is mainly tourists, so the location may not be ideal for a long-term stay. For a visit to historic Montreal however this is an excellent choice.
This place is next to the old grey nuns convent in Old Montreal. Literally steps from the water and many restaurants. Not too many shops and food stores nearby but this isn't really the place to cook and stay in. It is a small studio with the bed right next to the door and no desk, phone or dining table. Not to worry, we relaxed on the comfy sofa, sat on the window cushions or were always outside. Most importantly, this place is uncluttered and very clean!
Joubin was a fantastic host. Amazing apartment in a phenomenal location. His mom met us to drop off the keys and show us around. She was very sweet. The apartment is clean, modern, quiet and close to everything you could possibly want to see in Montreal. Flexible checkin and checkout is amazing. We will definitely stay here again!
Unfortunately, this was not the greatest travel experience ever. First after accepting the booking, several attempts to contact the hosts failed. No response to eMail, no response to phone calls. It was not until the afternoon before arrival and an urgent deadline AirBnB hat set for response had already elapsed by 20 minutes that I finally received a text message and stress levels abated.
When I arrived at the flat, it did not look as bright as in the images. It had escaped my attention that there was no desk on the photographs, just the glass table one sees in front of the sofa. Where to do some work? The host was very helpful to improvise a desk from the glas table. Looking out the window of the second floor, one faces another tall office building. On the road below noisy work was going on, at night being substituted by someone in the house who had some loud engine or air-conditioning rattling.
Needing a quiet place to concentrate and a reasonably sized desk I found another loft in Montreal through AirBnB that offered a superior space, comfort and solitude for less costs.
This place is excellent for someone who needs a place to sleep very close to where everything is happening (indeed all the important sites of downtown Montreal are just a brief walk away) and who is less sensitive to noise than I am.
Joubin's apartment was fantastic. Exactly as pictured and in an amazing location. He went out of his way to accommodate our arrival and helped significantly with parking. He was available throughout our stay with any request we might have had and I would definitely recommend staying at his apartment. You are in a quiet location but close to everything in Old Montreal.
