The Space

Can I just say that I almost answer within a couple of hours (unless it's the middle of the night). For some reason airbnb did not send some messages that I'd written for 48 hours and it's made my response rate look really bad!

A double and a single bedroom are available (1 x 4'6" bed / 1 x 3' bed) plus a private bathroom with over-bath shower in a village house 17 miles from Edinburgh. There is also a huge attic (8m x 4m), which is reached by a Ramsay ladder. It has a built in king size bed and adjoining loo, and is ideal for children/teenagers. Adults probably won't like it so much, it's more of a den, but there's plenty of space for a larger family or party. I provide towels, and there is a hairdryer, hot water bottles and extra blankets (this is Scotland!) in the wardrobe in the double room.

Guests have unrestricted use of the kitchen, large airy sitting/dining room, garden, sun deck etc. The house is right in the centre of the village, but in a very secluded little cul-de-sac. Two cats live here as well.

I'm out at work all day, but when I'm home I'm happy to cook / talk / share or to let you get on with it yourselves. I don't provide meals as such, but you are more than welcome to use what's in the fridge and cupboards.

West Linton is a lovely friendly village with a family pub with beer garden and an excellent restaurant (Tony Singh at The Old Bakehouse). The large village Co-operative store is open from 7am to 10pm and has everything (including excellent wines). Lots of parking, internet, satellite. Visitors' pets welcome within reason. There's an easy bus route/car to Edinburgh (buses run approximately every hour, and it takes 50 minutes to get to the city centre). We're only 15 minutes drive from the Edinburgh ring road and central Scottish motorway, and it takes about 25 minutes to drive to Edinburgh Airport (more during rush hour). It's an ideal base to explore both the lovely, historic city of Edinburgh and the beautiful countryside of the Scottish Borders from.

West Linton has a post office, bank (2 days a week), a newsagent which stocks everything from DVDs to strange curry ingredients, and several lovely shops for browsing, including a bookshop and an antiques emporium. There's also a very good golf course and lots of beautiful walks/cycling routes.

Biggar and Peebles are both very attractive towns within a 15 minute drive, with lots to see and do, if you want something a little quieter than the bustle of Edinburgh.

Guest Access

Guests have access to the whole house (apart from my personal bedroom).

Interaction with Guests

I am more than happy to share a coffee/wine/meal with my guests, although I am often out. I try to make sure I'm there to welcome you, but if not will always leave keys and detailed instructions. I've spent many happy evenings getting to know people from all over the world - that's why I do airbnb!

  • Lucy est très accueillante et très agréable. La maison est super et le village est très mignon avec plein de petits commerces. West Linton est très bien placé pour visiter Edinburgh et le sud.

  • My daughter and I stayed with Lucy for two nights in June. Firstly we arrived late, and Lucy had prepared dinner for us, which was really fantastic, as we had been driving for hours. The house was lovely in a cute little neighborhood in West Linton, which is a lovely little Village, with so many beautiful Villages close by to go and visit. The location is really perfect, and Lucy was a really wonderful host, who made us feel completely at home. We would love to return if the opportunity arises. Thanks Lucy.

  • This is the first time we came to the UK, we are fortunate to encounter lucy, in her home, and we feel very free, though we do not speak English, but we have a lot of common topics. We spent a happy three days together, Lucy has a wealth of life experience, enthusiastic work in public, she is very versatile, she (email hidden) and leader of the club, she impressed us, we may really want to come back to see her on stage.

  • Lucy and Andy were great hosts during our stay at Lucy´s house. We shared some evenings with some glasses of wine and enjoyed the conversation with them. Lucy as well as Andy were very helpful in recommending places we should go to, the rooms were quite comfortable. Lucy was a fantastic host. Very uncomplicated. We also discovered that the Hansons made great music, thanks to Lucy :-) Thanks to Lucy and Andy for your hospitality and good company!

  • Lucy was a warm and considerate host. Her freestanding home in the village was tranquil and restful spot we needed to recuperate. Thanks Lucy.

  • Lucy's beautiful house was a great accommodation away from Edin. You need to have a car to get in and out of this place but the drive itself is safe and beautiful. There are two cats here and if you're not a cat person, you may be a little bothered, but otherwise all was great. Lucy was exceptionally sweet and lovely to talk to (for the little time we spoke). A great place for 4-5 people - highly recommend the bedroom in the loft above - gorgeous bedroom.

  • A lovely stay in Lucy's house. Our children loved their attic hideaway stay, and the opportunity to smooch with Lucy's willing cat. We had everything we could have possibly needed, with the supermarket, chemist, restaurant and pub all in perfect walking distance. It was also great to have Lucy on hand to hear insight into local traditions and culture. We had the best time here for our stay in Scotland at New Year's celebrations. The place was a perfect location for getting to and from Edinburgh, of which we will be sure to return to. If anyone wants an awesome place to be for New Year's Eve, then hands down it must be Edinburgh, but be sure to soak it up as festivities last a week and there is much to be done!

  • Lucy is a fabulous person! Although our English is bad, she made everything to make us comfortable and to facilitate our arrival! She knows her attractive village and will know how to guide you towards pleasant addresses, giving her charming house for an in all respects brilliant stay!

  • Just what we needed! We had the pleasure of staying at Lucy's house for 4 days while touring around Edinburgh and the area. Both rooms were clean and comfortable and we made good use of the kitchen too!

Lucy was a wonderful host and we spent a few evenings enjoying her company and great music selection relaxing in the living room. We're looking forward to crossing paths again sometime!

About
Hello, I'm Lucy, 50 and single, with two cats and two daughters now away from home. Would love to have some company and hear about other people's lives and travels. Me? I love acting and writing, I'm very creative although I've got a very boring job, the house is full of colour and books and pictures and flowers, I love meeting people, talking over one or lots of glasses of wine. I always have people, books, music, laughter and sometimes a rehearsal or a party in the house. My fridge is full of things like chorizo, olives, wine, cheese, strawberries. I don't do tins/ready meals. I've lived in West Linton for 24 years, so I can share plenty of information. As I get older I'm more and more happy with my place in life, I know what I can and can't do, and life's just there to be taken hold of and lived. Do come and share it with me.
