A double and a single bedroom are available (1 x 4'6" bed / 1 x 3' bed) plus a private bathroom with over-bath shower in a village house 17 miles from Edinburgh. There is also a huge attic (8m x 4m), which is reached by a Ramsay ladder. It has a built in king size bed and adjoining loo, and is ideal for children/teenagers. Adults probably won't like it so much, it's more of a den, but there's plenty of space for a larger family or party. I provide towels, and there is a hairdryer, hot water bottles and extra blankets (this is Scotland!) in the wardrobe in the double room.
Guests have unrestricted use of the kitchen, large airy sitting/dining room, garden, sun deck etc. The house is right in the centre of the village, but in a very secluded little cul-de-sac. Two cats live here as well.
I'm out at work all day, but when I'm home I'm happy to cook / talk / share or to let you get on with it yourselves. I don't provide meals as such, but you are more than welcome to use what's in the fridge and cupboards.
West Linton is a lovely friendly village with a family pub with beer garden and an excellent restaurant (Tony Singh at The Old Bakehouse). The large village Co-operative store is open from 7am to 10pm seven days a week and has everything (including excellent wines). Lots of parking, internet, satellite. Visitors' pets welcome within reason. There's an easy bus route/car to Edinburgh (buses run approximately every hour, and it takes 50 minutes to get to the city centre). We're only 15 minutes drive from the Edinburgh ring road and central Scottish motorway, and it takes about 25 minutes to drive to Edinburgh Airport (more during rush hour). It's an ideal base to explore both the lovely, historic city of Edinburgh and the beautiful countryside of the Scottish Borders from.
West Linton has a post office, bank (2 days a week), a newsagent which stocks everything from DVDs to strange curry ingredients, and several lovely shops for browsing, including a bookshop and an antiques emporium. There's also a very good golf course and lots of beautiful walks/cycling routes.
Biggar and Peebles are both very attractive towns within a 15 minute drive, with lots to see and do, if you want something a little quieter than the bustle of Edinburgh.
Guests have access to the whole house (apart from my personal bedroom).
Interaction with Guests
I am more than happy to share a coffee/wine/meal with my guests, although I am often out. I try to make sure I'm there to welcome you, but if not will always leave keys and detailed instructions. I've spent many happy evenings getting to know people from all over the world - that's why I do airbnb!
I'm very relaxed, as long as you don't leave a mess behind you. And if the cats or plants tell you they're hungry, please feed them.
Checking in is preferable from 17.30 onwards, as I'm out at work during the day, but if you need access earlier I can arrange keys.
We stayed for 2 nights at NYE for Hogmanay. West Linton is a pretty and quaint village conveniently located 40min drive from centre of Edinburgh. There is a lovely organic cafe a short drive away. Overall, our stay was ok, however the linen was worn and covered in hair. Overall cleanliness was not great. If you do not like cats this is probably not ideal for you. We only saw Lucy briefly due to the busy time of year.
After my satnav malfunctioned I was completely lost and after a long day at a course I was not in the best of moods...but Lucy having been called away had kindly left a contact number of a friend, who thankfully came and rescued me! House and cats were most welcoming, everything that I needed was there or in very clear instructions...had a very relaxing and peaceful evening and the bed was most comfortable...the perfect end to a very long day!!
Lucy is a most engaging host with a lovely house, she made us welcome from the moment the 4 of us arrived and as well as giving us the full run of her house she was excellent company throughout our stay. It felt like going to visit an old friend and would definately return next time we visit Edinburgh.
Lucy is super friendly, we can use her kitchen for cooking and her washing machine as well. The room is very clean&tidy, and very cosy as well. She help us to find the interest places and how to go to the places as well, even including where to park our car. She is very nice.
Lucy made all the arrangements and helped us to settle in nicely. She allowed the use of almost the whole house that it was like a self-catering unit than a B&B! Located within heart of West Linton and near city of Edinburgh.
We had a very nice stay . Great hospitality.
The nicest bed of the holiday !
Hello, I'm Lucy, 50ish and single, with two cats and two daughters now away from home. Would love to have some company and hear about other people's lives and travels. Me? I love acting and writing, I'm very creative although I've got a very sensible job in an office, the house is full of colour and books and pictures and flowers, I love meeting people, talking over one or lots of glasses of wine. I always have people, books, music, laughter and sometimes a rehearsal or a party in the house. My fridge is full of things like chorizo, olives, wine, cheese, strawberries. I don't do tins/ready meals. I've lived in West Linton for 25 years, so I can share plenty of information. As I get older I'm more and more happy with my place in life, I know what I can and can't do, and life's just there to be taken hold of and lived. Do come and share it with me.
