The Space

Looking for a cozy getaway for two? Want to see a show at the Wellmont Theater? Or a great place to stay outside the city but close enough to sightsee everyday? Look no further!

Delighted to offer a lovely bedroom for two in a cozy corner of my home. This beautifully maintained 1907 Victorian-Craftsman style home in Montclair has lots of original details and classic, eclectic charm. Hardwood floors throughout, beautiful moldings, newly renovated kitchen and two fireplaces. Enjoy a glass of wine on the wrap around porch, or in front of the fire when it's cold outside.

Located in downtown Montclair, the home is an easy walk to shops, restaurants and cultural activities. Montclair is a charming old town that could be a destination unto itself: visit the Montclair Museum of Art, hang out at one of our coffee shops, browse for antiques or dine at one of the over 100 restaurants in town.

And we are easily accessible to Manhattan. Only a short walk to the train or bus to New York City; 30 minute drive by car. Once there, you have easy access to the Theater District, Hells Kitchen, Chelsea, the Village, Chinatown, Little Italy and all that great neighborhoods that make New York City a worldwide destinations. A native New Yorker, I'm happy to make recommendations of sights to see in the city, assist with reservations, etc

Off street parking is included, as are wifi and FIOS TV. I will make coffee in the morning for you. Please note that 3 retired greyhounds named Phinneas,Josie and Bernadette will welcome you upon arrival. Travelers must be dog-friendly

Do you need additional space? Check out my other listings Comforts of Home and Top of the Morning! The three listings combined can handle up to 8 people.

  • Stopped counting the times I spent at John's place. I love it and will return already in May.

  • An employee of mine stayed with John and had nothing but positive things to say about John, as well as his beautiful home. John communicated throughout the process in a timely manner. I wouldn't hesitate to contact John again in the future and either should you.

  • Beautiful home with amazing charm. Immediately felt at home thanks to John's hospitality. Exactly what I needed a home away from home. Thank you John!

  • My husband and I stayed with John for a weekend getaway from the busy NYC life. We had an amazing time. His home was a treat to stay in because there was a wonderful surprise everywhere we looked. John helped us find a great place to eat in town, where my husband and me were able to spend hours wining, dining, and chatting. And the fun did not stop there. When we got back to the house, we enjoyed chitchat with John and he even let us take a midnight stroll with him and his fun dogs. John is the most easy going person we have met in a long time and it was a breath of fresh air! We had a very nice time with John and we can’t wait to visit again!

  • When staying with John in Montclair one truly has a home away from home. The common rooms are warm and inviting. Each guest room is a feast for the eyes. It is great fun to see what new touch has been added to a room I previously stayed in. Not only is it a treat to have a conversation with John but his other guests are always friendly, engaging, and inclusive. I challenge anyone to find all these things at a NYC hotel!

  • This was my second stay with John (and it won’t be my last!). I’m one of many who share the same sentiments and you’ll understand why when you meet John and the dogs! They’re absolutely lovely.

I’ve experienced various accommodations in New York (from hotels to hostels in Manhattan and Brooklyn) and have never quite found a homier place than John’s - even though it’s in NJ! The commute from montclair to manhattan is super easy and surprisingly relaxing (30 minutes away, less than 5 minutes to talk to the stop). It’s been nice coming back to a quiet warm home after a long busy day in the big city.

  • It was a pleasure to meet and stay with John. The location is very convenient both for NYC visits as well as local dining and shopping. We enjoyed interacting with other guests as well as having enough space for our own needs. There is ample off street private parking.

  • It is such a pleasure to stay at John's. He goes out of his way to make you feel at home. He is a man of his words when he says that life is good. I had the treat of staying in the Paris room where the décor is wonderfully over-the-top. Think "Old Hollywood." An added bonus are the other guests you meet. On this stay his other guests who were from Australia and South America. My brother and sisters emigrated to Australia and live in Melbourne and that's where John's guests were from. So you can easily have an international experience when you book with John.

  • This was a first time experience for me and I was not disappointed . The house was comfortable and the three rescued grayhounds were a personal delight.

My fellow guests were interesting and added to the experience. Unbeknownst to me one of the families that were fellow guests were the children of a friend from Montclair. It's a small world.

John was the perfect host which made it easy to be part of the household. Almost as if I were a familky member.

I would not hesitate to return in the future when I am next in the Montclair area.

  • My stay at John's house was perfect! He has a beautiful home with very comfortable and spacious rooms. His home is located 3 blocks from downtown and walking to restaurants / stores/ shopping is soooo convenient. More importantly John made me feel incredibly we were old friends. He made sure I had coffee in the morning, directions to the local "hot spots", plenty of linens....and a social glass of wine before calling it a night.
I hope to return and explore Montclair....and catch up with John.
    Thank you!
