The Space

Adorable one bedroom cottage located in the popular Bywater neighborhood in New Orleans. Fully furnished with queen size bed in bedroom. This cottage is newly renovated, central a/c, hardwood floors, beautiful high ceilings, ceramic tile in bathroom. Tastefully decorated with local folk art, with a mix of vintage style New Orleans. Huge farm table to enjoy breakfast in the kitchen. Fenced courtyard to sit outside and drink coffee, while enjoying the view. Walking distance to the popular restaurants, Maurepas, Bootys, Satsuma, Markey's Bar, Bywater Country Club and other coffee shops in the Bywater. Walking distance to the Art Galleries on St. Claude, and many of the bars as well. Three blocks to the Marigny neighborhood.
Bus stops nearby to take you to the French Quarter, or just walk, as it's no more than a mile. If you are driving, there is parking out front. Ask me about weekly rates as well. Thanks!

The Neighborhood

The Bywater is a neighborhood a bit east (down river) from the French Quarter with a mix of locals who grew up here, and more recent bohemian arrivals. Artists and musicians call this neighborhood home. It is primarily residential but with amazing restaurants and entertainment everywhere; there are neighborhood bars, restaurants and randomly placed edgy found-object art scattered throughout the neighborhood. Travelers and residents from other parts of the city are flocking to this neighborhood's old-time, laid-back charm.

Getting around

Walking is the best way to get around the Bywater. And biking of course. Also- public transportation (the #5) will take you straight to French Quarter every 40 minutes.

  • A great little house in the Bywater. Rachel made it easy for us to get in and out of the house and was flexible with check in and out times. House is clean, decorated well and has everything you'll need for a great stay - and in a great neighbourhood, heartily recommended!

  • One of the best AirBnB experiences we have ever had -STAY HERE! The pictures do not do this lovely cottage justice, Rachel has created a very special place for visitors to New Orleans. I especially appreciated how tastefully she had decorated the cottage (no clutter but lots of unique art and local antiques), her thoughtful tips on the neighborhood, and the little extras that really make an AirBnB stay memorable such as extra linens/bath towels, her record collection, and chocolates.

For those concerned about staying in the Bywater, it was by far our favorite neighborhood in New Orleans. It was a little intimidating driving in down St Claude late at night, but the next morning we realized the neighborhood is full of young couples and families lovingly revitalizing the shotgun homes, planting beautiful gardens, and opening restaurants and all manner of creative businesses. We also liked being just outside the major tourist action, you will feel like a local but be able to easily access Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter.

  • We stayed at Rachel's house for the first weekend of Jazz Fest in April. Her house was spacious and perfect for our small family. It was walking distance to some amazing restaurants and cafes. Literally a couple of blocks. We enjoyed every morning walking to Satsuma, grabbing coffee and exploring the Bywater, one of my favorite neighborhoods in NOLA, before heading out to the festival. Rachel was easy to get a hold of and was helpful with many tips. The house had everything we needed and more. We are looking forward to coming back again. Thank you Rachel for being an excellent host.

  • Great place in a great neighborhood - you must stay in the Bywater if you are planning a stay in New Orleans. Rachel was a sweet and gracious host and gave us lots of insider tips on nearby restaurants (including Bacchanal, which is not to be missed) and cultural events. Thanks Rachel!

  • This place is great! The Bywater neighborhood is our favorite place in NOLA and this cute house is centrally located. Walk to great food and shopping, bike to The Quarter and beyond. Rachel was a great host and gave us some great tips on places to eat. The house is very comfortable, the style is simple and fun, the record collection was a great way to wind-down at the end of the day. I really wanted to have a few friends that we made while on vacation over to the house and put that farmers dinner table to use, but we did not have the time... maybe next time. My advise; stay in this house, wake and have biscuits and gravy and praline bacon at Elizabeth's and then walk up the street and pick out a record or two at Eulid Records Then wander over to the Country Club, have a cocktail and swim in the heated pool, sit in the sauna, have another cocktail and then have lunch there. Wander through the Bywater checking out the art, the shopping and the beautiful houses. Head to Maurepas Foods for dinner, they are locally sourced and DELICIOUS! Then, catch a 3 minute cab ride to Frenchman Street for live music into the night. Come home to your Bohemian Bywater Cottage, make yourself a night-cap and play that record you picked up this morning. Repeat as needed... Truly a great house, in a great neighborhood, in a great city, hosted by a great host... if you don't have a good time, there is something wrong with you!

  • Rachel was a wonderful host! We didn't have the opportunity to meet her in person (conflicting schedules), but she was always available by text, phone or email. Her responses were always prompt and helpful. My boyfriend and I loved the location, the amenities and everything about this lil Bywater Cottage. We will definitely be back in the future.

  • Rachel is an amazing host, with a lovely, rustic, quaint little apartment, that we all fell in love with immediately! We did not have the pleasure of meeting Rachel, however, she was extremely helpful via email with recommendations and was quick to respond to any questions we had.

The neighborhood is fantastic. You are walking distance to some fantastic restaurants, and the vibe is just great. I would definitely stay here again, and given that I fell in love with the city, I hope to be back sooner rather than later!

I love to travel and am up for home exchanges as well. A little background about me: I work in festival production, and formally owned my own guesthouse, so I know how to take care of a house and guests. My passion is culture, tourism and (email hidden)d my favorite thing in the whole wide world is my AIrstream. I love the Bywater neighborhood, but know a lot about the different areas of New Orleans and am tuned in with what is going on in the city and love to give recommendations. :)
