The Bywater is a neighborhood a bit east (down river) from the French Quarter with a mix of locals who grew up here, and more recent bohemian arrivals. Artists and musicians call this neighborhood home. It is primarily residential but with amazing restaurants and entertainment everywhere; there are neighborhood bars, restaurants and randomly placed edgy found-object art scattered throughout the neighborhood. Travelers and residents from other parts of the city are flocking to this neighborhood's old-time, laid-back charm.
Walking is the best way to get around the Bywater. And biking of course. Also- public transportation (the #5) will take you straight to French Quarter every 40 minutes.
2-3 people, negotiable!
Rachel's house is wonderful, in an awesome neighborhood. Truly recommend to stay here! Rachel is a great, always helpful host. We had a perfect month in the house and look forward to come back :)
Rachel was a great host. I actually never met her, but my boyfriend did. She greeted him at the house, showed him the ropes and even gave him suggestions on the area - places to check out, restaurants, live music, etc.
Rachel was responsive to messages, easy to work with, and followed through on everything that we needed.
The house was super cute; as described and pictured, and very well decorated. The neighborhood was cute, and we felt safe and welcome the whole time. I would definitely like to spend more time in the Bywater neighborhood on our next visit to New Orleans, and if Rachel's place is available, we would book it again.
I loved staying at Rachel's place. It is clean, adorable, and perfectly situated. She made key arrangements easy and efficient. I would totally stay here again when I am next in New Orleans!
Thank you so much for such a sweet stay in your lovely home. This was a great spot and we'll definitely be back.
I needed a place for 2+ months, where I could feel safe, at home, and get a real taste of New Orleans.
Rachel made the arrangement so effortless and easy. I am sad to leave her charming and comfortable cottage. It has been perfect. It is walking distance from many great restaurants & bars. Super quiet at night. A new park opened up just 4 blocks away, with great views of the river and walking/bike paths. It's such a great neighborhood spot. On a weekend morning I would walk up to Satsuma and get a coffee, walk through the park, and end up at Euclid records to pick out a few records to listen to on Rachel's turntable. I work late most nights and was pleasantly surprised that several local restaurants were open until midnight. I feel so lucky to have found this spot & it's amazing host. Oh, also, the few times I needed to reach Rachel, she always responded quickly!
A great little house in the Bywater. Rachel made it easy for us to get in and out of the house and was flexible with check in and out times. House is clean, decorated well and has everything you'll need for a great stay - and in a great neighbourhood, heartily recommended!
One of the best AirBnB experiences we have ever had -STAY HERE! The pictures do not do this lovely cottage justice, Rachel has created a very special place for visitors to New Orleans. I especially appreciated how tastefully she had decorated the cottage (no clutter but lots of unique art and local antiques), her thoughtful tips on the neighborhood, and the little extras that really make an AirBnB stay memorable such as extra linens/bath towels, her record collection, and chocolates.
For those concerned about staying in the Bywater, it was by far our favorite neighborhood in New Orleans. It was a little intimidating driving in down St Claude late at night, but the next morning we realized the neighborhood is full of young couples and families lovingly revitalizing the shotgun homes, planting beautiful gardens, and opening restaurants and all manner of creative businesses. We also liked being just outside the major tourist action, you will feel like a local but be able to easily access Frenchmen Street and the French Quarter.
I love to travel and am up for home exchanges as well. A little background about me: I work in festival production, and formally owned my own guesthouse, so I know how to take care of a house and guests. My passion is culture, tourism and (email hidden)d my favorite thing in the whole wide world is my AIrstream. I love the Bywater neighborhood, but know a lot about the different areas of New Orleans and am tuned in with what is going on in the city and love to give recommendations. :)
