This was my first Airbnb experience. The cottage was very clean, tidy and cute. Very comfortable living room and beds. Dozens of pillows to rest my weary head on! Strathcona has an interesting vibe. Clearly on the upturn, very bohemian, with characterful properties in various stages of renovation - some really stunning ones. Overall the area is lush, bursting with colourful flowers and peaceful and has a lovely atmosphere with cyclists aplenty. A charming local Portuguese deli is 2 minutes walk away which I visited daily for coffee and cakes. 5-10 minutes walk away is new Asian restaurant The Union on Union Street and Matchstick coffee roasters (cafe) on East Giorgia Street. I went here often. Claudia popped by on our first day to say hello which was great. Although you can walk to the centre via Chinatown, my 72 year old mother found it a bit of a hike after a couple of days but cab fares are only around ten dollars and we had no issue with getting cabs back and forth each day. The cottage was a nice place to come back to after a day of sightseeing.

This cottage is really cute and comfy, and Claudia and Hollie are great hosts! When we arrived, Claudia came out to show us the ropes of the place and help us get oriented, and she kindly arranged for us to be able to store our luggage there for a few extra hours before our late flight back home. The cottage felt historical but with an awesome modern kitchen and was even cuter than we expected, though if you are allergic to cats/dogs, I might choose another spot. If you have a pet it would be perfect and the nearby park made us wish we had a dog with us... Easy bus access two blocks away on Prior and about a 15 minute walk to the Stadium/Chinatown station. The neighborhood is cute, felt safe, and has some good markets nearby (we had coffee and Portuguese baked goods from Union Market almost every morning), and a few nice shops and cafes on Union and Georgia Streets on the way to the station. (Tip: If walking towards downtown, especially in the evening, I would stick to Keefer St, as Claudia suggested to us, and avoid Hastings/Cordova.) Walking to Chinatown, Gastown and, if you're feeling a bit more energetic, the Main St neighborhood is pretty easy. In sum, you should stay here!
This charming 2 Bdr cottage was the perfect accommodation for our trip to Vancouver. Located a short walk to transit. Hollie & Claudia were very helpful before and during our stay. Recommending things to see and do while we were in Vancouver.
The kitchen was awesome with everything you need and more. We loved cooking in this beautiful space.
Thank you Hollie & Claudia
A great place to stay. Close to the downtown area, but in a quiet neighbourhood. The house is beautiful, and recently re-done. A nice big kitchen for cooking our own meals. Everything you need is provided in the house. The small neighbourhood shops add to the local colour and intrigue.
We stayed at Claudia's cottage for 5 days in early July. We were a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids). The cottage was really charming and very well furnished. The kitchen was amazingly well equipped and ideal for a family like us with diverse food tastes. For example, our young daughter's a sushi addict and we even found a sushi rolling mat in the drawer! And there were plenty of pots and pans to make pasta for our son.
The downstairs area was open plan and nicely done up with very comfy sofas and a big double bed in the back area. Our daughter preferred to sleep on the sofa as it was so comfortable! :) The upstairs bed was also comfortable.
Vancouver seemed to be in the middle of a heat wave but as Claudia had thoughtfully provided ceiling and small fans, once we switched these on, we were fine.
There was a nice patio area on the front but we didn't really make use of it as we used to leave for sightseeing early and return late in the evening.
Claudia & Hollie were super hosts right from the beginning till the end. As this was our first airbnb experience, we were not sure what to expect but they really went out of their way to make sure that we could check in early for example and patiently answered all our questions. The lock box concept to get the keys was a clever idea because we arrived on a working day and Claudia didn't have to wait about for us to get to there.
The location of the cottage was ideal for getting around. We had a hire car so didn't use public transport at all but it is located a few blocks from the main Chinatown area and the main arteries of Vancouver. There is also a small neighborhood park diagonally opposite which was full of folks enjoying the summer heat. Being a residential neighborhood, there was plenty of street parking available but the only thing I'd recommend people to do is be careful where you park. Our rental car got towed on our 1st day there because we allegedly parked within 6m of a stop sign that’s right opposite the cottage. Hollie was very sweet – despite being in an office meeting, she helped us get the number of the city council so we could locate the impound and get our vehicle back.
Overall it was a very pleasant experience and we would definitely both use AirBnB and stay at Claudia & Hollie's place when we come to Vancouver again.
