Large basement bedroom: cooler in the Summer months, cozy in the Winter and the quietest room in the house.
This is Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen of Portlandia in front of my Ceramics Studio! Check out the Season 4 clip of Rent-It-Out featuring this house! So fun to have them here! Photo courtesy of IFC.
I am pleased and excited to announce that this house has been graced by none other than Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein of Portlandia for a sketch entitled "Rent-It-Out!" More Portlandia photos to come…
Cozy basement bedroom with queen size luxury sleeping in a bungalow style house with gardens all around and an on-site ceramics studio! Lessons available upon request. Pleasant, quiet sitting areas indoors and out. Shared kitchen and bathroom as the other two rooms are also listed on Airbnb. This will be a simple place to lay your head after exploring Portland's city, trails, restaurants and galleries. The ceilings are low in the basement (76 inches, in fact) and it is cozy, cool in the Summer and warm in the winter. The house is an Art Gallery, hosting Ceramics and Paintings at the moment. There will be occasional House Concerts offered by Folk Musicians. These will be community events and I will be sure to mark the calendar with these special functions.
This house is located in the Cully neighborhood, known for it's country-style living in the city with large lots, mature trees and plenty of gardening throughout the neighborhood. Our backyard is like a park in the middle of the city! Two nearby neighbors are landscape architects and do masterful works with their yards and gardens. Typical sounds one may hear throughout a day and early evening in this neighborhood are live music, children playing, chickens clucking, wood being worked into pieces of useable art, and more recently, two geese down the road. All of these sounds are pleasant and in the distance. We are near major bus lines that lead one straight to the MAX station. We are walking distance to New Season's, a natural food store, Common Ground, a relaxing spa open day and night, and the Alberta Arts District where you will find galleries, craft shops, restaurants, food carts, music stores, bakeries, bars, tea shops and even a Sake House! The Cully neighborhood gets the best of the city with park-like settings right next to a thriving art and Portland culture scene and easy transportation options.
I have been in the restaurant/hospitality business for over twenty years, love to cook, garden, share my abundance with others. I may offer breakfast/lunch or dinner if we are all in the mood. Internet available and updated recently so that there is full access everywhere in the house and a short distance outside. Access to shared kitchen, bathroom, living room. This is a quiet and artistic house. I make ceramic works in a studio on-site. I am happy to host you and pleased to meet new people.
The pictured baby grand piano is used by Portland vocalist Jonathan Brinkley to teach voice lessons from time to time. His sessions are playful, inspiring, refreshing, and benefit more than just singing. He is available should you decide you'd like an impromptu lesson!

Interaction with Guests
I hope to be here to greet you and show you the space. I keep myself busy with artwork, business and a full-time job, otherwise.
Please park on far right or far left of driveway, making sure not to block anyone else in, or park on house-side of street in front of house. We all clean up after ourselves to keep the space bright, clean and fresh. Remove shoes upon entering house. Quiet hours are between 10PM-8AM. We have a whispering practice between those hours. Please avoid using perfumes, colognes or strongly scented products while you are here, as I am sensitive. I do, however, love to burn natural incense (Nag Champa) and sage. Smokers: please smoke away from the house as we like to avoid smoke coming into the house through open windows. Be as brief as you can in the restroom as there is only one for the house. The kitchen is available for your simple, brief, and tidy meal prep.
Jennifer was a great host. My mother stayed in the downstairs bedroom for a little over a week. The place is clean and has shared bathroom, kitchen and common space. My mother enjoyed listening to the singing/voice classes that Jennifer's partner gave in the house and the piano lessons. I'd wholeheartedly recommend her place.
Overall a very good stay for the rate. I arrived in the evening which made locating the place a little more challenging. Also important to note that it is a basement room so expect a long flight of narrow, steep stairs to climb down. The bedroom
was tidy, bed was comfortable and linens clean, which is all I could ask for after all my driving. Although Jennifer was not there during my stat she was very responsive to my emails and communicated very well. Her housemates were also pleasant and hospitable during my interactions with them. Having one bathroom could be challenging for the four people during my stay but it all worked out for the most part.
What a great first Airbnb experience. Jennifer and Jonathan made my wife and I feel welcome right from the start. They had great suggestions for local cuisine, which guided us the short 15 minute walk to Alberta street where numerous eatery's and coffee shops waited. The room was spacious and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Overall, a great place to stay with excellent hosts.
Jennifer and her partner were incredibly welcoming to their home. The room was comfortable and spacious and very near quite a few delicious restaurants (Old Salt!). Great value for money.
This space was perfect for our short "staycation." She was more than accommodating and it was the perfect way for us to relax and enjoy some time together. We enjoyed staying in such an artistic and musical home, being musicians ourselves! All in all, a great experience. I would recommend this listing to anyone looking to visit Portland!
Jennifer's home was bright and welcoming. We were at the home basically only to shower and sleep because we spent every moment exploring! However, our stay was completely comfortable and Jennifer was a great host. Contacting her was an absolute breeze! The house is also in a great location - it has quick and easy access to the airport, Alberta Arts District and everything you could hope for in Portland! We would happily stay with Jennifer again! Thanks for everything!

We are Jennifer Love and Jonathan Brinkley. I am Jennifer from Portland, Oregon via Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a ceramic artist by day and work in a local Southern Italian restaurant in the evenings. I love music and learning about music. I practice yoga, am learning about meditation and love to hike in the forest. I enjoy gardening and am currently harvesting kale and spring greens. One of my life mottos is to work hard and play big. Five things I can't live without: fine dark chocolate, kale, music, dance, and sunshine. My favorite traveling destinations so far are Sicily and Todos Santos, Mexico. Oh, how I love the desert, cactus and the gentle sound of palm trees rustling in the wind! I have a dream to run a large Bed and Breakfast, Hacienda style with warm desert colors, lots of tacos and homemade ice cream! Jonathan is a musician and voice teacher. Together we have traveled all over Europe sharing Jonathan's music via concerts in peoples' living rooms! We love to host and share all of our favorite spots in Portland.
