I am pleased and excited to announce that this house has been graced by none other than Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein of Portlandia for a sketch entitled "Rent-It-Out!" More Portlandia photos to come…
Cozy basement bedroom with king size luxury sleeping in a bungalow style house with gardens all around and an on-site ceramics studio! Lessons available upon request. Pleasant, quiet sitting areas indoors and out. Shared kitchen and bathroom. This will be a simple place to lay your head after exploring Portland's city, trails, restaurants and galleries. The ceilings are low in the basement (76 inches, in fact) and it is cozy, cool in the Summer and warm in the winter. The house is an Art Gallery, hosting Ceramics and Paintings at the moment. There will be occasional House Concerts offered by Folk Musicians. These will be community events and I will be sure to mark the calendar with these special functions.
This house is located in the Cully neighborhood, known for it's country-style living in the city with large lots, mature trees and plenty of gardening throughout the neighborhood. Our backyard is like a park in the middle of the city! Two nearby neighbors are landscape architects and do masterful works with their yards and gardens. Typical sounds one may hear throughout a day and early evening in this neighborhood are live music, children playing, chickens clucking, wood being worked into pieces of useable art, and more recently, two geese down the road. All of these sounds are pleasant and in the distance. We are near major bus lines that lead one straight to the MAX station. We are walking distance to New Season's, a natural food store, Common Ground, a relaxing spa open day and night, and the Alberta Arts District where you will find galleries, craft shops, restaurants, food carts, music stores, bakeries, bars, tea shops and even a Sake House! The Cully neighborhood gets the best of the city with park-like settings right next to a thriving art and Portland culture scene and easy transportation options.
I have been in the restaurant/hospitality business for over twenty years, love to cook, garden, share my abundance with others. I may offer breakfast/lunch or dinner if we are all in the mood. Internet available and updated recently so that there is full access everywhere in the house and a short distance outside. Access to shared kitchen, bathroom, living room. This is a quiet and artistic house. I make ceramic works in a studio on-site. I am happy to host you and pleased to meet new people.
The pictured baby grand piano is used by Portland vocalist Jonathan Brinkley to teach voice lessons from time to time. His sessions are playful, inspiring, refreshing, and benefit more than just singing. He is available should you decide you'd like an impromptu lesson!
Your own bedroom and other shared spaces such as kitchen, bathroom, living room and yard.
I hope to be here to greet you and show you the space. I keep myself busy with artwork, business and a full-time job, otherwise.

Jenn's home is really bright, open and spacious. There are a lot of good vibes happening here. They are cooking always or making tea so the place smells great and is just warm and cozy. There is a nice balance between communal gatherings and private quiet space. They hosted some musicians one night--which I could not attend to--but it seemed like a really sweet mellow show to witness on a wintery evening. I stayed in the basement room which was very large and comfortable. The bed was very comfy and I had a good night's sleep there. I didn't do much cooking while I was there but I did notice the very distinct pottery that Jenn also offers for sale. Artisinal, warm, open and peaceful is how I would describe the house. It's also a great location in a mellow part of portland (42ndAve) which has great places like Delphina's bakery and Motivasi coffee. Overall I had an awesome stay.
Our stay with Jennifer was short and sweet, and just what we had in mind for an overnight visit to Portland. Jennifer's house is cool and unique, and the check-in process went smoothly even though we didn't have the chance to meet Jennifer upon arrival. Would recommend to anyone looking for low-key digs for their stay in Portland.
Jennifer was a great host. Her house is charming and comfortable. I will stay here again next time I'm in Portland.
Jennifer's house was a great place to stay! Plenty of personal space but also plenty of interaction with host and other travelers. I'm pretty certain I made lasting friends with a couple who was also staying there as we will be working for the same company shortly. Great location too. All in all a great place to stay!
Staying with Jennifer was an absolute delight. The kind of host that makes airbnb so awesome! She was friendly, easy to get along with and very flexible to our schedule. She had excellent recommendations of local spots in the city. We both gained a lot from meeting each other. We would love to stay with her again any time visiting Portland! Hope anyone else that is creative has the opportunity to meet her.
Jennifer graciously hosted us on very short notice. The room was a quiet spot to rest our weary heads!
Enjoyed my stay at Jennifer's place. Room is roomy and bed is comfy. Got to meet some neat other people from various places and peruse the excellent art on the walls.
Great place to stay in a quiet neighborhood, walking distance from the interesting part of Alberta St. The house has a great atmosphere, being decorated nicely (the living room pics are actually a little bit outdated, the room is nicer still than the photos show :-), and the bedroom I staid in was also really nice (although it was in the basement, which I normally don't like, it didn't bother me, because it had such a warm and welcoming appearance).
I didn't get to meet Jennifer in person, but she arranged for a friend to act as house host, and communication on airbnb went smoothly (from getting in touch to booking the room in a matter of hours). Great experience!
Jennifer's house is gorgeous! Unfortunately, the room I was staying in -- in the basement -- is not. I happened to peek at the other rooms upstairs, and they are all lovely -- light, sunny, plants, books, hardwood floors. But the basement is dark, with mildewy carpet and a strange smell. It is not a room you'd want to spend any time in. I would stay in this house again, but only if I could deselect the basement. It was a bummer down there.
Melissa! Wow, I am so sorry you did not appreciate your accommodations. I wish I could have been here to receive your feedback in person. The basement is certainly a basement and the lighting is basement like. I suppose I could get some nice plants in there to make it feel less basement-like. I appreciate your feedback. Sometimes when the air isn't flowing right it can get a little stuffy, but I'll assure you and future guests that the carpet is in no way mildewy! I could never have that in my space. Next time you book please take a look at my other rooms if you desire to be above ground. Each person has different needs and yours is to not be in a basement, but to be above ground with lights, sunshine, plants and books. I hear you and thank you for your kindness in providing feedback. blessings now and in your future Airbnb experiences, jennifer
From the moment I entered the house I felt positive energy and aura. The source of that energy was Jennifer. The time I spent in Portland and her house seems to me as pleasant dream now. Two days passed since I returned back to NY but I still have this longing for that time that i I spent there. I guess it will always remain in my memory as one of those loveliest moments I've ever had!
