About This Listing
Right in the heart of Katoomba!
A private, luxury retreat which is totally powered by the sun! Minutes from the Three Sisters, cafes, restaurants, bush walks, galleries and transport.
Welcome to the spacious apartment I've created for you in my large, heritage-listed Katoomba home.
We are in the heart of Katoomba's tourist area but in a very tranquil setting with fountains, ponds and water features. Cafes, galleries and escarpment walks are all within five minutes walk of the house. It's just a short walk to the village centre, 25 minutes walk from the station and there's a bus stop directly outside the front gate. The spectacular Echo Point and Three Sisters are at the end of the street - a 12 minute walk or two minute drive. Directly opposite the house is a popular restaurant and just one street away is an indulgent Thai day spa.
My house is designed so it can be split into two areas. You have a spacious flat at the front of the house all to yourself with large bedroom, en suite, private deck, BBQ and living room. The only thing we share is a front entrance. In the living room there is a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. There's also a 40" flat screen TV, Apple TV and a good selection of DVDs.
LUSH is a unique property. A fully renovated, original Katoomba home built in 1898 located in one of the village's best streets. It offers every modern luxury combined with 19th Century charm and 21st Century sustainability.
Many of my guests are happy to socialise, so feel free if you wish, to come through to the main section of the house. You'll find a contemporary open-plan living space, wrap-around deck. BBQ, extensive gardens and a huge bathroom with deep spa bath. If you are more than two people please see my separate listing for the Blue Room ($70-$110). The Blue Room can accommodate one person in a single bed or two with a double air mattress.
Finally, this is a house for dog lovers. I live here with my large, exuberant, friendly dog, the famous 'Oi'. He is a real character who keeps most guests entertained!
Before booking please read the house rules so you know this is the right place for you! Please follow the instructions in the house rules to accept and secure your booking. Please use your own Airbnb account for booking, not another person's. For those using Instant Book please note: this is not self-catering or self-contained accommodation and that LUSH is for adults over 18 only. It is not suitable for children
See you soon! Jilea and Oi
Your private area is a spacious flat in the front part of my house. I live at the back but the flat shares a common front entrance through the living room. You have a large bedroom with private en suite bathroom, wardrobe, private deck with fountain, large living area with DVD and BOSE Soundlink bluetooth music system, Apple TV, CD player, 40" flatscreen TV, DVDs and board games. If you wish to use the rest of the house you are welcome - you'll be sharing with me and will find Foxtel TV, Nespresso coffee machine, a beautiful deep spa bath, a wrap around back deck and the garden with large water lily pond.
Interaction with Guests
I live here and I like to have friendly conversation over a glass of wine with my guests. However I completely respect my guests' privacy and if you don't wish to chat, just a friendly hello will do.
Scenic escarpment walks, screeching cockatoos, laughing kookaburras, snow in winter, waterfalls, Perry's Lookdown, kangaroos at Jenolan Caves and Leura Garage Cafe!
A local bus stops right outside the front door. The hop-on-hop-off tourist bus ($40) also stops here.
From the airport, catch the train to Central station, then go to the country trains platform. Catch any Mt Victoria or Lithgow train and get off at Katoomba. There's a fast, comfortable train to Bathurst at around 5.50pm which takes 1hour and 40 minutes. If you have heavy luggage, there are lifts at Central and Katoomba stations.
Other Things to Note
A lovely dog lives here. Please be kind to him.
If you are afraid of dogs, please be assured that Oi will not hurt you.
Thanks for reading this, I want all my guests to have a lovely stay!
The key to unlocking the door at LUSH is the phrase you will find in the house rules below. Both people in your booking need to text or email me the phrase from separate email addresses/phone numbers. That's how I know you've really read them!
Here are the things I'd like you to remember:
For my dog Oi's safety, please always close the front gate even when bringing your luggage in and out.
Go figure, but Oi doesn't like selfies. Truly! So best not to try it with him.
Please lock the front door with the key each time you leave the house. Lock the front door when you come back in. Please do not leave the front door open at any time.
Please do not eat or drink in the bedroom (except for water).
The house is fully solar powered. Each time you leave your room, please turn your lights off. Please also check all the lounge room lights are out when you go to bed and don't leave the bathroom fan running.
LUSH isn't fully self-catering or self-contained accommodation. There is a bar fridge and a barbecue for guests' use. There are no other cooking facilities available to guests. If you use the BBQ there's a $50 cleaning fee unless you clean it yourself. Don't worry, I've made this very easy for you by supplying removable BBQ plates. You can use my kitchen to clean up.
Smoking and drug-free property.
There's a central heating vent under the washstand in the ensuite bathroom, please ensure when you shower that no water gets in here. A normal shower causes no problems - just don't have a REALLY big shower!!!
If you want to watch telly just move the armchair for a better view of the screen. Please do not move the television set.
The cushions on your bed when you arrive are not for sleeping on. Please remove them and use the pillows left by the side of your bed.
As noted above, the entrance is shared and if I have other guests staying, you may encounter them coming or going.
Now, anyone can say they’ve read the house rules but I will know if you really have if you text or email: “Who put the Oi in very annoying dog?”
The place was rather cozy, sometimes the room could get quite cold but there's the electric blanket & portable room heater to keep us warm. However, the water heater wasn't that great. It could take some time to work and when there's hot water, sometimes the water would turn cold again. Since it's winter and it's really cold, so bathing was a challenge for us. Jilea was kind to ask how we were doing and whether we were settling alright. On the last day, she offered us a ride to the train station from her place and before that, she took us to see the scenery of the blue mountains which was really amazing.
Thanks for your feedback Suen and Alan. During your stay I encouraged you to let me know if you wanted the central heating on and several times asked you if you were warm enough. On each occasion you said the electric blankets and room heater were sufficient. I was surprised as Katoomba is cold for Singaporeans and that is the reason I kept asking you if you wanted the heating on. Each time the answer was no. With regard to the hot water, I have instantaneous, on demand, continuous gas hot water which is very reliable. I think what happened was that you didn't turn the hot water tap on enough to trigger the continual heat. If you don't do that, yes the water can run cold. Again, had you told me there was a problem, I would have been able to help you and tell you that the solution is simple, just turn the tap on harder. The hot water does take 40 seconds to heat up, but after that, it is always constantly hot. I will always respond to any problems my guests have, but I do need to know that there is a problem in the first place! I was glad to be able to show you the valley full of mist on your last day, such a beautiful and unusual sight for many overseas visitors.
Jilea is a warm and welcoming host and you can tell immediately that she has worked hard at making a space that her guests will feel comfortable in. Jilea's attention to little details make staying at Lush a lovely experience. And if you enjoy the company of four legged friends there are two beautiful dogs to meet. Thanks Jilea.
Jilea and Lush was FANTASTIC!! This was our first experience with air bnb and it will keep us coming back. She made my husband and I feel like old friends. The house is so unique, beautiful and comfortable. Gave us our space when we needed it but also gave us great recommendations as well as great company over a glass of wine. The house is a short walk from the three sisters, a few good hikes and easily drive able to any where else in the blue mountains. It's also near an adorable town. You can truly see how much Jilea loves this place as she's just as excited as you are to hear about your day and to talk with you about the area. Our only regret is that we didn't have time to stay for longer than one night. We wish Jilea, Oi and Mr Ted Harrison nothing but the best. I hope when we make it back to Australia, we meet up again!
Excellent host and apartment
Lovely location to spend a weekend in the mountains
we've enjoyed a comfy night at Jileas house. the room provided everything we needed and there was loads of space to make us feel home for one night. :) we got a warm hello from jilea, oi and harrison and felt truly welcome. thank you, jilea, for having us over! :)
I stayed with Jilea while my sister was visiting from overseas and she was very helpful with advice on the Blue Mountains - what to do & see & where to eat.
Oi is a gorgeous big creature and a great addition to your stay.
Very chilly at night so bring your winter woolies or ask for the heating to stay on a bit later to keep you toasty.

About the Host, Jilea
I've had the world come to my door through Airbnb! Each guest just makes me want to do more of this. I love the friends I've made, the stories we've shared about the places we've been. I love the meals we've had together, the insights into each others' lives and experiences. I've heard about the whirling dervishes in India, the midnight sun in Alaska, the music festival in Rajasthan and the min min lights in remote Australia. I've had people stay who just needed space, young lovers looking forward to their future and people in inspiring, respectful 30 year relationships. Musicians, poets, ship wreck divers, Hollywood actors, airline pilots, marathon runners .... each time hear that little "harp" sound on my phone I get a thrill of anticipation about who it is who might be wanting to come and stay with me!
So about me: I am in my 50s, a writer, journalist, editor, designer and gardener! I love my friends, partying, having a great time whether it's work or play and welcoming people into my home. I love to cook, I LOVE to make people happy and relaxed!
I also feel passionately that this country is big enough to accommodate anyone seeking shelter or asylum.
My other passion is for the native Australian environment and I try to live as sustainably as possible without sacrificing all the things I love in life. The garden at LUSH is designed to attract native wildlife, including frogs, possums and native birds. It's visited by those raucous vandals, the sulphur crested cockatoos, laughing kookaburras, king parrots and wattle birds. I also have a big, boofy, gentle, friendly dog called .... "Oi!" who I adore!
