3) Aerobed queen blow-up with pump
4) Pack-n-play

Kitchen
We have a complete kitchen with full size fridge, range/oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots and dishes.

Parking/Bikes
Parking is in our driveway off street, although you can also park on the street. We have two Gary Fisher bikes to use (1 male, 1 female). We also have various other bikes in a range of service. Just let us know what you are looking for (Dutch style, road bike, mountain bike) and we can try to make it happen. We can also point you to fun bike routes.

Family friendly
We are very family friendly. We have two toddlers. See note below about Children and noise. You are welcome to use any of our gear, including a pack-n-play, strollers, high chairs, potties, books and toys. We keep a dollhouse and some books and toys in the apartment all the time. If you need any suggestions of things to do with children, please just ask. We also don't care if your baby cries.

Guest Access

The apartment is completely separate from the rest of the house. You will have your own kitchen, bathroom with shower, bedroom, and living room. You enter the apartment from a back patio entrance.

Guests will have access to a private back patio and yard that we use intermittently, but is more accessible from the apartment.

Laundry
There is a laundromat two blocks away. If really needed though, I am more than happy to throw a load of laundry in for you upstairs.

Interaction with Guests

I interact with guests as much as they would like. I love being a host to our home and to Charlottesville, and am happy to chat with you about things to do here. However, I completely respect guests' privacy and want you to feel you are in your own apartment/hotel suite and feel no obligation to talk in person. I appreciate communication via text/email, as I use my iphone a lot. Some guests I never see, some I see on repeated visits.

The Neighborhood

We are in the neighborhood of Fifeville, just four blocks from West Main Street (by the Main Street Market), a 5/10 minute walk to the Downtown Mall, and a 20 minute walk to UVA and the Corner. Walk to Amtrak and Greyhound. Right by the free trolley line. It is an eclectic neighborhood, fairly historic, gentrifying as more people want to buy close to the center of town.

Restaurants (within 5 minute walk)
Blue Moon Diner
Orzo Kitchen
Maya
Horse and House
Bella's
Or, just walk another 3 minutes to the Downtown Mall

Shops (within 5 minute walk)
Calvino (coffee shop)
Albemarle Baking Company (best bread and desserts)
Feast (high end grocery)
Organic Butcher
Seafood @ West Main
Eloise (high end women's clothing)
Sustain (clothing and home goods)

Park
Tonsler Park is about two blocks away, with lighted tennis courts, a new huge children's structure, an abandoned little league field good for dogs, and basketball courts.

Getting around

There is the free trolley and various City buses that run along West Main Street, which is about four blocks away. You can walk to the Amtrak train and Greyhound bus stations in about 6 blocks.

Other Things to Note

About Us
We have a home building business focused on building unique single family homes on urban infill lots (Latitude 38). We are very versed in what's going on in the City. Joey is from Charlottesville and Jeff moved here from San Francisco about eight years ago. We love to travel and explore cities. We love to walk and bike, and love where we live because it is so close to everything.

Children
We have two small girls, currently 1.5 and 3 years old. The reality at this point is that for about 1-2 hrs in the morning and a couple hours in the evening they tend to run and around, bang and drop things, cry and laugh, and generally are hard to keep to a total quiet. If you are a family, we are a great place to stay, as you can make as much noise as you need. If you are sensitive to noise or do not want to feel as though you are part of someone's house, this is not the spot for you.

Pets
We have a 90lb chocolate lab named Felipe. He barks sometimes. We also have a big cat named Sammy. They will not be in the apartment, but are on the property. Let us know what kind of pet you have and we may be okay with him/her.

  • What a delightful apartment in the perfect location in Charlottesville. Joey was quick to respond and the place is set up with everything you might desire in a home. There is a great booklet of info about the house and about the town, which we found really helpful. And the design is super cool. We had happy hour on the patio outside and watched the firefly's, then cooked dinner in the well stocked kitchen. And, we discovered that we are not skilled in drumming. If we are ever back in Charlottesville, we will be staying here!

  • Staying at Joey's was a perfect Charlottesville experience! We were able to stay in the comfort of a private apartment while still enjoying an easy and quick walk into the heart of downtown. Communicating with our host was easy and accessible. Joey allowed us to keep our pup with us in the apartment with an attached private yard. The neighborhood was cute and also easily walkable. I will not stay anywhere else when visiting this lovely city - my family will be back!

  • The apartment was perfect for visiting Charlottesville for the weekend. Great location within walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants. The kitchen was stocked with food and drinks. The rest of the apartment had pretty much anything you could possibly need and the interior design was beautiful and very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again for our next trip to Charlottesville.

  • The experience at Joey's place was great. The accommodations were very comfortable, everything was provided for. The listing was accurate with regards to the apartment as well as the location and proximity to downtown. Joey's recommendations in the apartment's 'guidebook' were great: close and yummy restaurants, local market, a recommended winery, as well as Monticello.

Joey was also very accommodating to our changing schedule, letting us know we could add a night to our stay if needed and adjusting for a changing arrival time.

  • The experience was great, the house was perfect for our weekend stay. Great location in downtown Charlottesville. The house was clean, the bathroom is really nice and looks newly renovated, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. There was coffee in the apartment, and Joey even had bikes for us to use. We'd absolutely stay here again, and would recommend to anyone considering staying here.

  • I stayed at Joey's place for just over a week. The space was nice and clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable and the bathroom and kitchen were stocked with essentials.

Communication with Joey was very easy and she also had a binder filled with information about the apartment and the surrounding area which served (email hidden). Unfortunately I was too busy to take time to have a tea with her and her family/friends but would have loved to.

I am looking forward to being able to stay here again in the near future.
Thank you Joey for such a wonderful experience!
    Take care.

  • Joey's place is such an amazing place to escape to. As always, Joey was an amazing host and I felt my energy renewed even after just a night at her thoughtfully crafted home. I can't wait for the next visit. Thanks for having me on such short notice!

  • It's a wonderful and certainly unique private apartment with it's own entrance on the lower level of a two-story house. The place is designed with great care and beautifully furnished. On the kitchen table there is a hefty binder with house rules, suggestions for local cafes, coffee houses, etc. The hosts run a smooth operation and seem to take pride in their work. The place fit the four of us comfortably. Thank you, Joey!

  • The apartment that Joey rents through AirBnB is probably the nicest apartment that I have stayed in through the site. Even though I went to school in Charlottesville, I appreciated all of the area material she provided in an organized binder. Her hospitality was especially thoughtful - toiletries in the bathroom; treats in the fridge, etc., to make you feel right at home. Fifeville is a wonderful neighborhood that's perfectly situated between Charlottesville's downtown and the university Corner area. All in all, a great find, and more affordable than any of the area hotels!

About
We are a busy young entrepreneurial family. Joey was born and grew up in Charlottesville, just off of the Downtown Mall. After going to college in the northeast and living in South America, she returned home, where she had various non-profit and real estate jobs, went to grad school, and started a home building business with Jeff. Jeff came to town via Habitat for Humanity from San Francisco. We love to get out there once a year and try to take the train to visit friends in Philadelphia and New York when we can. Charlottesville is awesome, but sometimes you got to get out.
