My husband and I stayed at La Palanzana B&B one night as part of our honeymoon trip to Italy, and we wish we could have stayed longer! We staying in a self-contained apartment which is newly furnished and decorated to a high standard, with its own front door out on to the garden and a patio set. There is a breakfast bar and a kitchenette with hot plates for making coffee, and a simple breakfast is provided. The family were very friendly and we were invited to try figs straight from the tree in the garden, which were delicious.
We had decided to go to Viterbo as I had wanted to visit the Villa Lante gardens at Bagnaia, just outside Viterbo (which are beautiful and I highly recommend visiting). Claudio was very helpful – he recommended we also took time to visit Viterbo town, where the medieval quarter is well worth a visit, and there were lots of other places in the area we could have gone if we had time (thermal baths and Roman ruins to name a few!). He also recommended a fantastic steak restaurant which served up the biggest steaks I have ever seen!
We really enjoyed our trip to Viterbo and would highly recommend this accommodation.
Claudio was a great host—friendly and ready to help us in any way possible. The apartment is huge—really a whole floor of a house, with a large bedroom and bath but also with a big kitchen and an enormous living and dining area, plus gardens right outside the door. Navigating through the small and often one-way-only streets of Viturbo takes some patience and time, and is easier done during daylight the first few times. Once you get used to the drive, however, you can relax and enjoy the benefits of being just outside of town (it’s quiet and there are few other cars) while being close enough to the center to experience all that Viturbo offers. Claudio, good luck with your law exams and last year of school. We’ll get in touch if we’re near Viturbo again.
We are very happy with our stay for two days near Viterbo. The apartment is enormous and very lovely; Claudio, a fifth year law student, and his mother, a teacher of biology, are outstanding hosts and very helpful making suggestions for things to do. We have only great comments about our stay.
Lovely quiet and peaceful countryside retreat. Claudio and his family were the nicest hosts- can't fault them. The spacious apartment is under the family home with a separate entrance. It was very private, but it was comforting knowing that people were there if I needed anything. I had an intercom button and Claudio always responded immediately.
There's no air conditioning but it's not necessary as it very cool, even when it's hot outside. Note that it is a basement apartment so there are only small windows and you have to have the lights on during the day. This didn't bother me though as I spent most of the time relaxing in the hammock or at the table outside.
Breakfast was basic, but in my experience this is the standard in Italian B&Bs.
It's only 5-10 minutes in the car to the very centre of Viterbo. I would say a car is necessary. Claudio and his sister gave me a map with things to see. Great restaurant recommendation from them- Antica Taverna. Reasonably priced and delicious grilled meat!
