DORAS BUI COTTAGE is a cosy traditional stone cottage located up a hill on the Dingle Peninsula.
It is conveniently located for Killarney, Dingle and Tralee. It comprises two bedrooms and has spectacular views of the valley below and the mountains

The Space

Comfortable & cosy stone cottage in a very quiet and secluded spot and approached via its own small lane.

Leave the rat race behind and just come and chill!

No passing traffic and its very safe for children and pets.Located on the Dingle Peninsula near to Inch beach and only 30 mins drive from Killarney, Dingle and Tralee.

The cottage has two bedrooms (both with double beds and one with an extra single bed). It has a wonderful old fireplace in the living room with a wood burning fire and enough turf and logs to get your blazing fire started!

The views of Carrantoul (Ireland's highest mountain) are clear from both the cottage and the garden, as are the rest of the Magillicuddy Reeks mountain range. A small river runs off the mountain behind and through the quaint garden.

This cottage is a great base for walkers . Access to the Sleive Mish mountains is achieved via a small track next to the cottage.
The local small supermarket in Castlemaine (2 minutes drive away) sells pretty much everything and is open from 8am to 8pm , 7 days a week .
Private parking for two cars but sadly and gladly, there is a network signal but no internet connection as such! So, please fell free to bring your own laptop and 'dongle' or iPhone if you want to stay or get connected!

Guest Access

All our guests are welcome to wander around the garden and access the walking path which leads up to the Slieve Mish mountains behind. This is great walking country - bring your boots!

Interaction with Guests

We live in a farmhouse about 3 miles away and are very happy to meet our guests and if necessary, guide them to the cottage from Castlemaine (as it is quite difficult to pinpoint). We usually invite all our guests to come and see our lambs and donkeys and simply drop by when driving towards Inch or Dingle. We always meet our guests, take them through everything and then try and arrange to meet again before departure.

The Neighborhood

This is a spectacularly beautiful part of the world whereby you can see the sea and mountains from most parts of the Peninsula and experience the real sense of rural Ireland. The people living here are hardy and friendly and the pubs are lively and fun. Traditional music and Guinness proliferates!

Getting around

You need a car to fully enjoy the beauty of the Peninsula. No public transport exists except linking the local major towns but trains run to Tralee & Killarney and flights go into Kerry Airport (20 mins. away)

Other Things to Note

The cottage is ideally placed for those wishing to see both Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry as well as Dingle and the whole of the Dingle Peninsula.

  • We stayed in five places in Ireland, and this was a favorite. The cottage reflects the architecture of a traditional Irish farm house, and was a cozy, just lovely spot for our family of five. We used a day to hike in the hills behind the house -- the fact that the cottage is part way up a small mountain doesn't really come through in the pictures -- and another day to explore the beautiful and historically fascinating Dingle Peninsula. We cooked in for several meals, and found the kitchen pleasant and easy to work with. Beds were especially comfortable. We have no regrets at all about staying here.

    Vielen Danke, Monika & Gerti.
Quiet surroundings & beautiful walks are certainly part of the experience of staying at Doras Bui Cottage. There is a sense of tranquility there and yet you are just 5 mins from the local pubs and shops. Thanks for your kind comments.
Please feel free to come back any time!

  • What an adorable cottage! The water was divine while we were there so we had only one fire in the cozy living room wood burner. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay in Dingle. Nick and Ann were very friendly and left us a detailed map so we could not get lost! Thank you!

    Response from Nick:

I think you meant that the weather was divine (which it was!) although some people love the fresh drinking water as well - straight off the mountain!

We're glad you all enjoyed your time here and perhaps one day we'll see you at your place in San Fran.

    Regards

  • We had a wonderful stay at the cottage and the location was very close to many of the sights. We only stayed 2 nights but were able to sight see in Killarney National Park one day and still make it to Dingle for dinner that evening. Wish we had more time and if we make it back to Ireland, we will definitely spend more time in the Cosy Cottage. Nick and Annie were wonderful hosts and Nick gave us great directions and ideas for places that we should see.

    Response from Nick:

Thank you, John. I would agree that even if you only have a couple of days, at least the cottage is located well for visits to both Killarney and the Ring of Kerry as well as Dingle and the Slea Head Drive around the tip of the Dingle Peninsula.

  • Excellent cottage, at the crossroads from so many sights on the Irish west-coast: Dingle, Ring of Kerry, Tralee, Killarney National Park. Not to mention the opportunity for a good hike for those that love to do that. Nick was an excellent host, checking in before arrival offering to turn on the heat and light the fire for a warm welcome. It's tricky to find, so happy that Nick didn't mind coming down to Castlemaine to show us the way.

Very cosy cottage, roomy, and perfect for some time away.

Couldn't have described it better myself! It is tricky to find but once here, its away from the madding crowd, with great views and we do provide a detailed map for all guests.

Thanks, Gerben for treating our cottage with great respect and we're glad you and your Dutch friends were able to experience a bit of what County Kerry is all about .

  • We had an amazing stay in Kerry, and much of what made it amazing was Nick and Annie's hospitality. They are phenomenal hosts, and we can't wait to make a return trip to one of their gorgeous cottages.

Not sure what we have done to deserve that review! Thanks so much, Ali, for your appreciation. We try our best to be welcoming and that's all we can do. The lovely cottage, with its great views and old worlde atmosphere helps but I guess its people that make a holiday or a trip memorable............and Kerry has some of the friendliest around! and that's why we live here!

Thanks again and of course, we would love to see you again, as with all our guests (well, most of them anyway)

  • This is a beautiful little cottage with a lovely view of the area! Secluded, yet an easy drive away from Torc Waterfall, Dingle town and driving loop, Connor pass and more. Temperatures inside the cottage were cool, but the heating options worked well for our family. Our boys very much enjoyed making the evening fires and beds could be preheated.
Nick was an attentive host and who provided us with detailed driving instructions and valuable trip planning advice. He lives nearby and was happy to have our animal loving family over to see his family's pet sheep and donkeys.
Our two nights there were not enough to do the exploring that we wanted to do so plan accordingly!

  • We were only in the cottage for one night, but it is lovely & very cosy. Breathtaking views from the front windows and doors and I could imagine getting lost here for a few days of solitude. I did not get the opportunity to meet Nick or Anne, but Nick was easily reachable for questions. We took his advice on dinner in Inch Beach and was not disappointed! Beautiful views over some great chowder. Would definitely recommend his cottage for a perfect hideaway!

  • This was such a cozy beautiful cottage to stay in while in the countryside of Ireland. I didn't get to meet Nick or Anne but they gave us all the information we needed about the area and general housekeeping of the cottage. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there is no wifi and none of us could get service on our cellphones and there is no telephone there. We were just worried if there was an emergency we wouldn't be able to get a hold of them. My sisters and I also have bad allergies and asthma so with the carpeting and rugs we didn't fair so well. Nonetheless we had a nice time in the Dingle peninsula.

    Response from Nick:

Thanks for the comments. We did try to meet Charlotte on four occasions but not being able to access their telephone made it difficult. There is more than adequate cellphone reception at the cottage - you just need an Irish SIM card for your phones or international roaming switched 'on'. We do not advertise that we have wi-fi as it is very sporadic & inconsistent anyway in this part of rural mountainous Ireland. We are always available to speak with and visit our guests . Indeed, we love to meet and talk with guests as many of the other reviews will confirm.

  • An absolutely gorgeous cottage! Views that are breathe taking and cozy with everything you could need. The perfect irish stay...only wish we could have stayed longer! Nick and Annie are organised and friendly. A real get-away...I will definately be back...
