About This Listing
DORAS BUI COTTAGE is a cosy traditional stone cottage located up a hill on the Dingle Peninsula.
It is conveniently located for Killarney, Dingle and Tralee. It comprises two bedrooms and has spectacular views of the valley below and the mountains
Comfortable & cosy stone cottage in a very quiet and secluded spot and approached via its own small lane.
Leave the rat race behind and just come and chill!
No passing traffic and its very safe for children and pets.Located on the Dingle Peninsula near to Inch beach and only 30 mins drive from Killarney, Dingle and Tralee.
The cottage has two bedrooms (both with double beds and one with an extra single bed). It has a wonderful old fireplace in the living room with a wood burning fire and enough turf and logs to get your blazing fire started!
The views of Carrantoul (Ireland's highest mountain) are clear from both the cottage and the garden, as are the rest of the Magillicuddy Reeks mountain range. A small river runs off the mountain behind and through the quaint garden.
This cottage is a great base for walkers . Access to the Sleive Mish mountains is achieved via a small track next to the cottage.
The local small supermarket in Castlemaine (2 minutes drive away) sells pretty much everything and is open from 8am to 8pm , 7 days a week .
Private parking for two cars but sadly and gladly, there is a network signal but no internet connection as such! So, please fell free to bring your own laptop and 'dongle' or iPhone if you want to stay or get connected!
All our guests are welcome to wander around the garden and access the walking path which leads up to the Slieve Mish mountains behind. This is great walking country - bring your boots!
Interaction with Guests
We live in a farmhouse about 3 miles away and are very happy to meet our guests and if necessary, guide them to the cottage from Castlemaine (as it is quite difficult to pinpoint). We usually invite all our guests to come and see our lambs and donkeys and simply drop by when driving towards Inch or Dingle. We always meet our guests, take them through everything and then try and arrange to meet again before departure.
This is a spectacularly beautiful part of the world whereby you can see the sea and mountains from most parts of the Peninsula and experience the real sense of rural Ireland. The people living here are hardy and friendly and the pubs are lively and fun. Traditional music and Guinness proliferates!
You need a car to fully enjoy the beauty of the Peninsula. No public transport exists except linking the local major towns but trains run to Tralee & Killarney and flights go into Kerry Airport (20 mins. away)
Other Things to Note
The cottage is ideally placed for those wishing to see both Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry as well as Dingle and the whole of the Dingle Peninsula.
Please remove your outdoor shoes when entering the carpetted living room and bedrooms. Please refrain from smoking inside the cottage
Heating is provided via both the wood burning stove as well as oil fired central heating. A cost recovery charge is made for the oil consumed (3 euros per unit) and an average spend (if you choose to use the central heating) is about 5-6 euros per day. Electricity is included in the daily rate and the hot shower is instant and electric!
Another view of the main bedroom which has views of the Kerry Mountains near Killarney
Lovely stay at this beautiful cottage with my two daughters. Location was just perfect, very private with grand view of country side from both bedrooms and living area. Well equipped kitchen, extremely comfortable beds and plenty of room for all of us. Nick was quick to respond to all communications and took good care of us during our stay.
Nick was extremely Good host and made us very welcome and his local knowledge was a great help in making our stay just perfect.
We felt very sorry for Ruth and Hannah who, initially, had difficulty finding the cottage (but got there in the end!). They maintained a jolly outlook on their two day stay and managed to enjoy both the delights of the cottage itself (cosiness, fire etc ) as well as the scenic wonders of the Dingle Peninsula.
A brighter light in the kitchen has now been actioned (its those new 'energy efficient light bulbs that are so dim!)
Everything was great, exactly how Nick had described it. Really loved the detailed directions as the place isn't easy to find on a regular map. Would happily stay there again!
We try to be as honest as possible, avoiding the use of descriptive words such as 'stunning', 'fabulous', 'breathtaking' etc. This is a lovely little traditional Irish cottage - cosy, well maintained and with great views, a sweet garden and a small stream running through it. A really convenient base for walking and visiting the Dingle Peninsula and the Killarney Natonal Park . End of story. Oh!................and nearly every guest loves staying here! Its great value!
Set out in the Kerry countryside between Dingle & the Ring of Kerry. A bit out of the way & hard to find, but a great cottage & great location.
Yes, the cottage is in a lovely peaceful setting with great views, away from the roads and bustle but only 2kms from the nearest town (Castlemaine) with supermarket, Garda station, post office etc. Its only difficult to find if you forget to take the detailed directions and map with you.
My friends and I stayed at the cottage over long Easter weekend.
House has perfect location for both travelers who wants to make most out of the region (from the house we managed to see Dingle Peninsular, Ring of Kerry, Killarney and Limerick on the way back to Dublin) and for those who want a very relaxed weekend (there are walking trails close by. House is well equipped for a comfortable stay and has lovely garden with a table.
Nick was very welcoming and gave us nice suggestions for local attractions and places for dinner/ drink.
Overall, we all were very happy with our stay.
We spent a fabulous 3 nights in Doras Bui. My husband and I, and our dog George were made feel very welcome by Anne and Nick. The cottage is beautiful, really lovely location near to Inch beach and Dingle, with lovely walks all around. We would definitely recommend Doras Bui for a chilled out break away. Thanks a million for letting us stay!
