Interaction with Guests
This is a second home. The owners are usually in California.
Enjoy watching cardinals, Gamble quail, Gila woodpeckers, doves, cactus wrens and ravens feeding in the kitchen garden. The larger, fully-covered, south patio overlooks the pool and is cooled by a fog (mist) system. Balcony seating on the upper deck offers a view of Scottsdale and Phoenix to the south and spectacular sunsets bursting with pink, orange and pale blue to the west.
No public transport is available. But the owners keep a 1994 Infiniti on site for the use of guests staying three days or longer. Just replace the gas you use.
Other Things to Note
The pool is private (out of public view) and must be shared with any guests using the casita. It has a motorized cover and is heated to 84 degrees (29C) from June to October. For a surcharge, we will be glad to heat the pool upon request. The spa is heated year-round. Maximum depth in the pool and spa is 5 feet. A shower enclosed by dense vegetation is adjacent to the pool. The pool deck has table seating for 8, chaise lounge chairs and a portable sun shade. Pool toys (floats, balls, etc.) are in a closet near the pool.
No pets. No smoking. Early check-in and late check-out OK if confirmed.
Gary and Sandy could not have been better, more responsive hosts at their beautiful Desert Mountain home. At every turn, they provided an extraordinary welcome along with helpful information. Their love of this house and the area is very obvious.
Their home is even more spectacular than it looks in the photos. It was built to a very high standard by an obviously knowledgeable builder and designer. Every convenience imaginable is there. The public rooms and outdoor spaces flow, and the bedrooms and baths are private and have every amenity. The kitchen with its huge island and perfectly situated pass-through to the covered patio is completely equipped. Linens and towels are abundant and high quality.
And then there's the pool, a brilliant blue oasis that the kids refused to leave! And the roof deck, with its views that go on for miles. And the fog-mist cooled, covered dining patio. We were in the house for a week, and I still don't think we managed to experience everything this house had to offer.
Desert Mountain is a visually beautiful, gated, low-traffic community that was perfect for our family of hikers, runners, walkers, and tricyclers. The location of the house is perfect-- seclusion and privacy with convenient access to great shops and restaurants.
Our extended family ranged in age from 60+ down to 18 months, and the house and area accommodated everyone's needs with room to spare.
Thank you Gary and Sandy for a week our family will not soon forget.
Sandy was a fabulous host and did everything to make our stay a pleasant experience. She was very flexible about our check in and check out times. We found everything the house and community to be just what we were looking for. The home had everything to make our stay with friends very comfortable. Sandy was always just a phone call away and helped us when we got lost making sure we found our way.
It was a joy to meet and chat with Mike and Becky and their friends. They took to heart that this was "our home" and treated it with respect. They set the standard high for "ideal guests". To compensate for a late check-out, they laundered all the bedding and many of the towels before their departure. What a treat that was for us. We hope you visit again!!!
What an amazing place. We couldn't say better things about our stay. The views of the desert landscape at sunset and the clear night sky atop the roof deck alone were worth the stay. Very peaceful neighborhood and clean, comfortable accommodations within the house.
Owners were extremely friendly and accommodating and great to interact with. We not only housed family from out of town, but actually held a small wedding reception. The Owners of the property were very supportive and the reception could not have been more perfect and beautiful. We are hoping to come back for our one-year wedding anniversary!
We are so pleased that your stay and "very special event" met your expectations. You are a lovely couple and were most conscientious while at our home. Thank you for honoring the house rules.....especially with such a large group of people to "look after"! You are most welcome to return to celebrate and enjoy your first anniversary, and your second, and your 35th! May love be abundant between the two of you and may every day truly be an awesome blessing!
Gary and Sandy were very helpful and communicative. Their home is beautiful and tucked away, but within easy striking distance of the restaurants etc in Carefree. The perfect place for our family get-together!
We very much enjoyed our stay at Gary and Sandy's home. They were gracious hosts and made us feel very welcome. A complete manual was available to answer any questions that we had. Having the private hot tub with the outdoor sound system was a highlight. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!
With an important family event at hand, Sandy and Gary provided a luxurious oasis for the rest and relaxation I was hoping to find.
The house is gorgeous, even more beautiful than in the pictures, and the accomodations are both private and peaceful.
This large home is very spacious, yet quite comfortable. Each room is impeccably designed and stylish with an attention to detail.
With the heated pool, spa, large patio and even an upstairs deck, the house provides an outstanding view of the desert and spectacular sunsets.
For those who want to get out, the nearby town of Carefree provides a wealth of small shops, artist galleries, restaurants and special events focused on the western lifestyle.
I highly recommend this wonderful getaway!
We had to plan our event from Alaska and Sandy was very helpful & allowed us to come see the property when we arrived in town. When we arrived she gave us a tour & we realized this house was more than we had expected. Sandy was totally helpful & patient with us. It worked out perfectly for the wedding we had & all the guests raved about the place. It was nice to have the family all be able to stay there together. We are already talking about coming back for a family reunion. Thank you Sandy & Gary!!

I am a semi-retired California attorney and live in California when not relaxing in Arizona. I enjoy traveling, outdoor activities especially hiking, and gardening. I run 2 miles a day and play racket ball several times a week. I enjoy most of my meals made from scratch (the old fashioned way) using quality produce and avoid fast food restaurants and eating out at run-of-the-mill restaurants. I am happy and content and because I enjoy my home, I take good care of it. I trust that you will also enjoy the home if you decide to choose it for your get-away.
