It was our first trip to the African continent and I must admit that it was a perfect start, especially because of The Haven and the people who run it.
Right from the smooth and informative correspondence with Tracy in England to the flawless pick up by Robert at the OR Tambo airport. The moment we entered, we felt so welcome. The house itself is lovely with ample space and tasteful interiors and exteriors. My wife and I got one room and our two kids got one. Robert was always around to help with the routes and any other thing we needed. He drove us around to get the local SIM card and our car rental. We had nice freshly baked croissants as a part of the included continental breakfast each morning. The kids loved their 2 lovely dogs - Olga and Bentley, both rescued by the hosts when they were abandoned by their original owners. Speaks volumes about Robert and Anne. Robert was amazing with routes. We never took out the GPS while we were there, so if you are staying with them and take a car on rent, do not waste money on a GPS unit. Robert is your walking, talking GPS. I would call him from anywhere on the road and he'd guide me in.
We had a lovely Braai with them one evening since i'd heard so much about the South African BBQ. So at an extra cost, and if they are not busy, i'm sure Robert would be happy to cook one up.
Finally, it was time to leave and we had to drive to Kruger after 2 nights with them. We had a sinking feeling, like when you get when you leave close family and are going away for a long time. Thats the kind of place it is and thats the kind of people they are!!
Lovely b&b with very accommodating and welcoming hosts, Robert and Anne, who were sweet about me hanging around all the time doing work. Loved sitting in the courtyard in the sun. Super comfy bed and everything super clean.
As a German family we had chosen the Haven simply for the location. Close to Sandton, Hyde Park and Rosebank. And it was perfect. Just a couple minutes by car in either direction. But then there was much more to it: The house with its beautiful garden is living up to its name "The Haven". A true South African haven. Inside and outside spick-and-span! In addition we felt very safe. Breakfast is lovely. Warm croissants fresh from the oven- thanks to Robert! And yes Robert and Anne made us quite speechless with their warmth, hospitality and love. May God bless them abundantly! And - We will return!
Great B&B with lovely hosts. We only stayed one night but were very happy with everything. Our hosts were very accommodating, the room was comfortable and the fresh baked croissants were lovely! We highly recommend this B&B.
It was perfect staying with these fellow hosts! Not super hosts for nothing !they totally go the extra mile for our comfort safety and general info on Joburg offering the convenience of low cost lifts too which is a huge bonus in a city which is wonderful but also dangerous. These hosts in such a country are marvellous and to be highly respected as they have a harder job than we do in relatively safer countries. They chat willingly about their country and its exciting transition in an open and hopeful way giving much insight to us travellers! Thanks you all Best wishes Alex x
