This review is for the small room in the coach house..
The area where this listing is located is a very cute and quaint neighborhood that is walkable and safe. For some of the long term tenants, parking can be tough. But do not need a car, the house is walking distance to the train, restaurant, bars, and grocery stores.
Denise is a nice, accommodating host but I believe the cost of the place is a little too high for what you get. Although the room is clean and comfortable, it is very, very small and some the shared rooms (downstairs bathroom and kitchen) could use some additional TLC and cleaning on a regular basis.
I would recommend this location for students or people coming to the chicago area for internships or summer programs. Both buildings on the property housed international and US students... its a good place for students to network and meet new people.
ChiChi contacted me in May stating that she had just relocated from Arizona and had no place to live- her living accommodations fell thru. She initially wanted a private bathroom, and apparently had not rented a room before. I explained that common areas and baths are shared. I also expained that this is our busy season. Not much available last minute (this is all documented on the thread). She then wanted to book without paying a booking fee to airbnb- I explained that I do not do business like that. People who want to book without paying a booking fee to airbnb tend to be trouble.
Since she had no place to go, she quickly booked the room. I explained I only had one room open. I described the room perfectly, smaller side- not very big, very clean very comfortable, with a nice closet, new bed, dresser, night stand and a small desk. I made it very clear that the room was on the smaller side. I asked her "would that be okay?" She said yes and booked the room since the hotel was very expensive. When she arrived she told me she had a home in ARizona and wanted to put it on airbnb. she stated that she thought my building was fantastic and loved the professionals and students who lived here.
She is clueless to the work, and cost of such a venture.
I am curious why she thinks she knows the value of a room? She just arrived to Chicago (from Arizona), and knows very little about the area. She also had all of her utilities, wifi, paper products and free laundry and soap. She stayed for an entire month. A well furnished clean home that is in a great area has a lot of value. Less than a studio apartment. Furnished and ready to move in. Our students and professionals who stay here know the cost of housing in the area. This is not Argentina or Columbia where a room is 300$. My homestay is a great value and option. I wish I could live as affordably when I travel out of country or state. A fantastic upscale, safe area- with a clean home that is comfortable and beautiful. and in walking distance to everything, Not including the beautiful court yard.
I think I extended my courtesy to Chichi and I don't think she really appreciated anything. Her room was not overpriced.
ChiChi was always in her room. She could have used the living area, court yard and other common areas provided, but she preferred to stay in her room 24/7. It appeared that she did not work. In her room most of the time day and night.
This woman booked the room and was told precisely what was available. She had no place to go. Now she wants to complain. She should have considered her options when she booked before she wrote my review, fair market value during a very busy season. .
I stayed 7 weeks at the homestay on Lathrop Avenue in Forest Park. Denise was fantastic at accommodating what I needed (e.g. a desk for study), and was extremely helpful in getting set up for my stay, including acquiring a transit card for the CTA system, and helping me to obtain a parking permit for the village of Forest Park. The house is about a 15-minute walk to the Forest Park station, which is the end of the line for the Blue Line trains--total transit time to the Loop downtown is about 1 hour. The house had everything I needed, and Denise continually made improvements to the house to ensure the comfort of her guests, including installing air conditioning units in the kitchens. My room also had an air conditioner, which was nice to have as it got warmer and more humid. In addition to 2 shared kitchens for the guests to use, there is a washing machine and clothes dryer in the basement, which I found convenient. The location of the house is close to some beautiful older homes, including the historic Frank Lloyd Wright homes in nearby Oak Park--about 1 mile away. Grocery stores are relatively close, and there is a Costco in nearby Melrose Park--about 10 minutes by car. Thanks D!

About the Host, Denise
Since you’re thinking about staying with me, let me introduce myself! My name is Dee and I’ve been living in the Chicago Area all my life. And I live quite a happy life. Here’s a bit more about me.
I love the outdoors and I love to exercise. So daily you’ll find me riding the beautiful bike path near my house all over the area. If not biking, you can also often find me running my dogs on the local paths and parks.
--Why I Do AirBnB--
I do AirBnB hosting because it enriches my life. When people come together from all over the US and the world, long lasting friendships form. Also Chicago is one of the most beautiful American cities, and I love showing people things about this city and it’s surrounding suburbs that they would not otherwise see. And because of this I really do my best to create a fun, and warm environment for every student that stays.
Simply stated, I am an entrepreneur, and have been for 20+ years. During that time I have started and ran 4 businesses, including my current one, A+ master tutoring center. I am also an educator. I became interested in education over 7 years ago and became a teacher in American public schools until I decided to start my tutoring center.
And I do love running my tutoring center because I have been able to help countless children learn essential skills that prepare them to take charge of their lives when they leave school.
