Stayed 3 months in summer 2017: I stayed in a room in Denise's main house (she also has an apartment that she rents out but I haven't seen it). In the main house, there are about 4-5 rooms she lets out with 2 bathrooms. Many people staying there while I was there in the summer were college students doing summer internships, but there were definitely non-students as well. The atmosphere was pretty quiet, which I liked. Denise is very helpful and friendly. She has three dogs in the house. They bark some but are non-aggressive and nonthreatening. The location is pretty good. The house is within a 5-10 minute walk of one strip of restaurants/stores in Forest Park and within a 30 minute walk of many more restaurants/stores in Oak Park. It's also about a 5 minute walk from the Blue Line and a 30 minute walk from the Green Line, both of which take you into downtown Chicago in about 30-40 minutes. I commuted by car to my internship further out in the suburbs, and the location was also decent as far as driving (though there is a lot of traffic during rush hour). For me, it was a good balance between being near the city and near my internship. The room I stayed in matched the description given before I arrived. Denise also helped me get a parking space, which I needed because I had a car and there is no overnight street parking in Forest Park.

Response from Denise:
Emily was incorrect and inaccurate when she stated that it was a 30 minute walk to oak park. Since Emily had a car she never walked to downtown oak park. This is a 15 minute walk (maximum). Since Emily did not commute into the city (her internship was west bound) her estimation of the time to get to downtown chicago is also inaccurate. This is an upscale area convenient for downtown and west bound destinations. This area is safe to walk both night and day! 5 minute walk to blue line, 12 minute walk to green line and 3 minutes to expressway. We accept long term reservations only. We do not accept weekly or daily requests. We are student and professional based only. Many doctors and medical professionals stay in my buildings.

I am absolutely overwhelmed by Denise's hospitality. When I arrived in Chicago, I was absolutely lost. I was in Chicago to start my first internship in a place far from home. Denise guided me through the transit system to get from the airport down to Forest Park, and she even offered to pick me up there! Throughout my stay, she has been nothing but helpful. I think the question that she asks the most is 'Do you need anything'--- she is always willing to go above and beyond for her guests. I definitely saw it firsthand. She took me on a lovely (yet also grueling) bike ride to St. James Farm and treated me to brunch as well as little treats throughout the journey. Regarding the house itself: I stayed over at the main residence, and Denise made the place feel like home--- we had access to practically the entire house apart from her bedroom. She has a few lovely dogs that are extremely well behaved. The dogs always greet you when you come home (when they're awake). Despite the fact that Denise had several dogs, I was impressed to see that the place was so well cleaned; I don't think I noticed any instances of even dog hair on the furniture. She recently purchased a new laundry machine that works like a charm. My room was comfortable--- I could fit all my clothes nicely in the provided furniture and have an organized space in which to work at home. I also had the privacy and quietness that I needed in order to read. Final thoughts: Seriously talk to Denise. She is not only hospitable, but she is also a fascinating individual. She has been an entrepreneur for practically her entire life, and I've heard so many stories of how her determination, grit, and resilience made her so successful. She is probably one of the most hardworking, responsible, humblest, and kindest people I have met. I think the world would be a better place if we had more people like her.

Had a great time staying here for a month. Room was clean, had A/C and wifi worked for the entire time I was there. What you see is what you get. Many different students from around the world stayed in the house while I was there. Nice to interact with them.

This review is for the small room in the coach house.. The area where this listing is located is a very cute and quaint neighborhood that is walkable and safe. For some of the long term tenants, parking can be tough. But do not need a car, the house is walking distance to the train, restaurant, bars, and grocery stores. Denise is a nice, accommodating host but I believe the cost of the place is a little too high for what you get. Although the room is clean and comfortable, it is very, very small and some the shared rooms (downstairs bathroom and kitchen) could use some additional TLC and cleaning on a regular basis. I would recommend this location for students or people coming to the chicago area for internships or summer programs. Both buildings on the property housed international and US students... its a good place for students to network and meet new people.

Response from Denise:
ChiChi contacted me in May stating that she had just relocated from Arizona and had no place to live- her living accommodations fell thru. She initially wanted a private bathroom, and apparently had not rented a room before. I explained that common areas and baths are shared. I also expained that this is our busy season. Not much available last minute (this is all documented on the thread). She then wanted to book without paying a booking fee to airbnb- I explained that I do not do business like that. People who want to book without paying a booking fee to airbnb tend to be trouble. Since she had no place to go, she quickly booked the room. I explained I only had one room open. I described the room perfectly, smaller side- not very big, very clean very comfortable, with a nice closet, new bed, dresser, night stand and a small desk. I made it very clear that the room was on the smaller side. I asked her "would that be okay?" She said yes and booked the room since the hotel was very expensive. When she arrived she told me she had a home in ARizona and wanted to put it on airbnb. she stated that she thought my building was fantastic and loved the professionals and students who lived here. She is clueless to the work, and cost of such a venture. I am curious why she thinks she knows the value of a room? She just arrived to Chicago (from Arizona), and knows very little about the area. She also had all of her utilities, wifi, paper products and free laundry and soap. She stayed for an entire month. A well furnished clean home that is in a great area has a lot of value. Less than a studio apartment. Furnished and ready to move in. Our students and professionals who stay here know the cost of housing in the area. This is not Argentina or Columbia where a room is 300$. My homestay is a great value and option. I wish I could live as affordably when I travel out of country or state. A fantastic upscale, safe area- with a clean home that is comfortable and beautiful. and in walking distance to everything, Not including the beautiful court yard. D I think I extended my courtesy to Chichi and I don't think she really appreciated anything. Her room was not overpriced. ChiChi was always in her room. She could have used the living area, court yard and other common areas provided, but she preferred to stay in her room 24/7. It appeared that she did not work. In her room most of the time day and night. This woman booked the room and was told precisely what was available. She had no place to go. Now she wants to complain. She should have considered her options when she booked before she wrote my review, fair market value during a very busy season. . D D

I stayed 7 weeks at the homestay on Lathrop Avenue in Forest Park. Denise was fantastic at accommodating what I needed (e.g. a desk for study), and was extremely helpful in getting set up for my stay, including acquiring a transit card for the CTA system, and helping me to obtain a parking permit for the village of Forest Park. The house is about a 15-minute walk to the Forest Park station, which is the end of the line for the Blue Line trains--total transit time to the Loop downtown is about 1 hour. The house had everything I needed, and Denise continually made improvements to the house to ensure the comfort of her guests, including installing air conditioning units in the kitchens. My room also had an air conditioner, which was nice to have as it got warmer and more humid. In addition to 2 shared kitchens for the guests to use, there is a washing machine and clothes dryer in the basement, which I found convenient. The location of the house is close to some beautiful older homes, including the historic Frank Lloyd Wright homes in nearby Oak Park--about 1 mile away. Grocery stores are relatively close, and there is a Costco in nearby Melrose Park--about 10 minutes by car. Thanks D!

Since you’re thinking about staying with me, let me introduce myself! My name is Dee and I’ve been living in the Chicago Area all my life. And I live quite a happy life. Here’s a bit more about me.

--My Hobbies--
I love the outdoors and I love to exercise. So daily you’ll find me riding the beautiful bike path near my house all over the area. If not biking, you can also often find me running my dogs on the local paths and parks.

--Why I Do AirBnB--
I do AirBnB hosting because it enriches my life. When people come together from all over the US and the world, long lasting friendships form. Also Chicago is one of the most beautiful American cities, and I love helping people when they visit our city, and surrounding suburbs. This is why I really do my best to create a fun, and warm environment for every student that stays.

--My Work--
Simply stated, I am an entrepreneur, and have been most of my life. During that time I have created, owned and operated 4 businesses, including my current company, A+ master tutoring center, located in Oak Park Il. I am a certified educator. I became interested in education several years ago and became a teacher in American public schools, then I decided to start my tutoring center.

I love running my tutoring center because I have been able to help countless children learn essential skills that prepare them to take charge of their lives when they leave school. I love helping American children and adults of all ages because I believe our school system is a disappointment.
I love working with students from all over the world because they are amazing and restore my faith in humanity.
