The Space

Get rejuvenated in this private apartment above a detached garage on tropical park-like Daniel Island! It includes a full-sized bed, built-in cabinets, a vintage dresser and table, and a cozy reading chair perfect for catching up on your reading. We already stocked a few shelves with over 40 books!

The apartment also features a full bath (towels and soap included) and a large closet for your travel gear.

We are coffee nuts so you get 1/3 pound of single-origin coffee free during your stay - roasted by us in our home roaster. We've got you covered with coffee brewing stuff too. You will not get that anywhere else in Charleston!

Free wireless internet included, and plenty of parking.

Need to go for a swim? Take advantage of the huge neighborhood pool with your private key card.

There's a washer, dryer downstairs, and don't forget to stock your cold drinks in the full size refrigerator too!

Head to the beach at amazing Isle of Palms, about 20 minutes away. We'll give you our parking pass for beach front parking and gear you up with chairs, a blanket, and a cooler!

Our neighborhood has a bunch of walking trails, specialty beer / wine retailers, and the Family Cup Tennis Center (always something going on!). You're less than five minutes from Blackbaud and BenefitFocus. Drive to historic downtown Charleston only 20 minutes away!

  • Rob was a great host and helped me find his place when I arrived at night in the rain. The apartment was clean and just as advertised, very spacious and relaxing. It's in a quiet neighborhood but just a short drive to downtown. And as promised, he had some spectacular coffee beans waiting for me. Good times :)

  • Exactly what we were looking for. Quiet, cozy, and great coffee! Thanks, Rob.

  • Rob was a very responsive host, and was certainly helpful in providing recommendations and giving clear instructions on how to check in, etc. The apartment, however, is a slightly different story. The room is somewhat worn and definitely needs new carpeting; the current carpeting is stained in several locations. The bathroom did not appear to be fully cleaned when we checked in either. There were also many marks on the wall. The bottom part of the garage (which you use partially to walk into the place) was messy, and the exterior of the refrigerator was very dirty. On a positive note, the surrounding neighborhood is quite nice, and there are some beautiful running trails nearby along the water with cool vegetation.

If you are looking for a crash pad in the Charleston area and want to save some money, this place fits the bill. It was an adequate place ot stay and lay your head, not much more. Really not sure where all of the 5-star reviews were coming from.

I was bummed to read about Jeffrey's concerns. Anytime a guest lets me know about an issue, I fix it as soon as I can, and I (email hidden) on the bed! But in this case, I didn't know about it until I read it here. My apologies to Jeffrey for the room not meeting your expectations!

  • I found Rob's place while on the road to Charleston, arrived late (10:30pm) and left early, never meeting Rob. But I spoke with him on the phone and he was great. I hit the bed and never woke up once - it was like a little nest I crawled into. Beautiful neighborhood, easy to find, and close to a good coffee shop for my morning drive.

  • Rob Whelan's guest house was peaceful, clean and quiet. There was a good selection of local guidebooks, which I used, and excellent house roasted coffee with apparatus to make a good cup first thing in the morning, which made me really happy.Rob checked in to make sure that all was well during my stay, and all was well. This was my first visit to the Low Country, and Daniel Island was a good location to access various parks, beaches and the city with relative ease by automobile.

  • Wow Daniel Island is cute! Safe, clean and cozy and gets the job done. Easy parking, Rob is a modern guy, quick to respond to text inquiries and his kids are the CUTEST! ( be prepared if you see them they WILL invite you to a tea party! ;) When I told them I was sorry but I had to run they said giddily, " ok, we'll do it next time you come! "- all smiles. Guess they knew I had a good stay! The coffee Rob supplied was beyond delish!! As I was driving away he came running out to say farewell.. Nice family...

  • we really enjoyed our stay at Rob's "Private Sanctuary" on Daniel Island. The room was spacious and the neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. We loved the location --just a short drive to Charelston and we were able to walk to the Family Circle arena on Daniel Island. Rob and his wife were very friendly - Didn't get to meet Rob in person but he was in touch to make sure we had everything we needed.

    we will be back!
