The Space

Live like a local! We don't mind last-minute bookings, and if we can accommodate you we will and a delicious breakfast is always included!

Alors, Johnny parle un excellent français y habla OK español (para un chico blanco). Mark taler perfekt dansk, og OK norsk. Wir sprechen OK deutsche.

We have 2 guest rooms in our designer solar-powered eco-friendly house in Del Rey, close to Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey, Venice and and Santa Monica, both with a river view and you'll also be able to see Santa Monica, the Marina, Century City and the Mountains. If you need both rooms (we can handle up to 5 in a pinch), please be sure both are available (here's the link to our other room: ). Both guest rooms share a full bath upstairs and a 1/2 bath downstairs.

This listing is for our double bed bedroom which is cozy for 2 (137.2 cm x 190.5 cm). Pricing is for one person per night; an additional person is $20 per night and weekends are slightly higher. Check-in is 3 PM and check-out is 12 noon but these times are flexible within reason; we'll try our best to accommodate you.

You'll enjoy a REAL complimentary seasonal vegan breakfast for you both with coffee, tea and juice, and which often includes avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, melon, cream "cheez," hummus, bagels, breads (often homemade), an assortment of jams and fresh fruit.

The rooms share a full bath with nice products and cushy towels. In addition to the breakfast spread (check out the picture) you’ll get super-fast wi-fi, access to light use of a printer, premium streaming TV (HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Amazon and over 300 channels), laundry and the use of our beach cruisers all at no additional charge.

Guest Access

Our house is your house!

You’re free to hang out by the fire bowl and swap stories, pick some tiny heirloom strawberries in our front yard organic urban farm or just do your morning emails or read the LA Times in the backyard with the tinkle of our pond in the background.

You're also welcome to cook meals yourselves if you like, as we have a pretty large kitchen--sometimes we cook with guests and eat together family style--but whatever works for you. We even have a second BBQ for our non-vegan guests. And don't worry: we're non-judgy, non-preachy vegans, and if it's cocktail night and you're around we'd love you to join us.

Not in the mood to cook? Want to stay in for dinner? Let us take care of everything and have family dinner and drinks with us and experience Johnny's amazing vegan cuisine (if our schedule allows). To cover our costs we ask $15 for dinner only and $20 for dinner and cocktails/wine/digestifs.

Interaction with Guests

We are very fortunate to live in a beautiful area with great weather and you’ll be sharing our home; we never host when we ourselves are travelling. We love to show people why we love LA and we’re here to help you, and we want you to have the best time possible. We also realize everyone likes their privacy, and we're told by guests in their reviews they think we have a great balance of interaction and privacy in the house.

The Neighborhood

Our house is in Del Rey and we’re super-close to the beaches, and there’s also easy access to all attractions in Los Angeles. Del Rey is an area with great choices in nature, culture, restaurants and shopping. We’re also less than 15 minutes to LAX but without the airport noise (it's a $25 cab ride).

We're right across the creek from the famous Ballona Creek Bike Path and it's an easy, fun ride to the beaches at Playa del Rey, Venice, Marina del Rey and Santa Monica and we have 2 beach cruiser bikes to loan (you'll need to provide your own safety gear (so please bring it with you) and sign a release before you take the bikes out).

Getting around

We're in a safe, upscale residential neighborhood, so you'll have the most fun if you drive and have a car. We can sometimes help out with transport if our schedules allow, or you can walk to the bus, but seriously: it's LA and public transport really sucks. RENT A CAR. We have parking in our driveway if your car doesn't leak oil (if it does you'll need to park around the corner as there is no street parking on our street overnight).

Using our bikes is a great way to get around and the Ballona Creek Bike Trail will take you to the beaches without exposing you to much car traffic, but bear in mind they do need to be shared with the other guests and the bikes need to be back before it gets dark.

Guests that don’t drive get around very well with the peer-to-peer ride sharing apps Lyft and Uber and it often can be similar in cost to renting a car, but car rental is always best. Hey it’s L.A. and the car is king!

Other Things to Note

PLEASE, IF YOU'RE NEW TO AIRBNB: Before you inquire and you're new with no feedback you'll need a fully-developed and verified profile, and please read the entire description. Everyone needs a clear, current and identifiable picture (it's best if you're a couple or travelling with a friend to have a pic of you both). Also, If you're traveling with someone, we need to know who they are and a little about them as well. Hey, it's our home. Please see

We have 2 well-behaved dogs: Sigi, our senior (who we adopted from Robert DeNiro, believe it or not), and Wolfgang, our goofy 5 year-old. They are a part of our family, so please love dogs. As we already have 2 dogs, please, NO PETS, (we've tried it and visiting animals are just too confusing for them).

If we're booked please check with our neighbor Dee who's literally across the street; she can handle parties up to 7 and will consider stays of 1 month or more.

  • We absolutely loved staying with Johnny and Mark and would happily stay again! Both hosts were friendly, fun and helpful with an abundance of advice, suggestions and tips on the area, what to do and where to go. The room was spotless, breakfast tasty and hosts (dogs included) were fantastic company! Wish we could have stayed longer!

  • Johnny and Mark were lovely hosts! Everything was exactly as described in the advert (or even better :-)). The neighbourhood is quiet but you are at the beach or at the highway to go downtown in no time.
Johnny and Mark immediately make you feel at home. They are happy to share insider tips for shopping and dining and they can tell a lot about the history of the sights around. I also enjoyed the breakfast (which is included, very nice extra), sitting at the fire place in the garden, joining them for dinner. A perfect stay! I defenitely want to come back.

  • My second time visit with the Delightful Johnny & Mark in Del Ray

Theses 2 guys are Exceptional Hosts, hence my second visit in a matter of months.

Not needing to write a full essay this time around I will just give you the Bullet points.

These guys EXCEL in all departments, they are Caring, Gracious Most Thoughtful of there guests, have a beautiful home and garden with comfortable surrounds, leave a formidable breakfast set up to even accommodate a 6.30 am early riser like myself !!!

Great communicators with superfluous energy and an overall joy to be around.

It's Hotel Del ray ( Casa de la Johnny & Mark) for me every time I stay in LA

Thank you again guys, most appreciate all your hard efforts !!!!

  • Johnny and Mark are really nice guys, with a really nice home and really sweet doggies. We felt completely welcome and taken care of and would love to stay with them again.

Doing my yoga practice by their bubbling pond (with live goldfish!), then fixing myself a healthy breakfast from the spread laid out by Johnny every morning was a real treat and made our stay very spa-like. The guys gave us some great tips on dining out (there are some amazing restaurants in their hood), offered us the use of their bikes, and shared some juicy Hollywood gossip over a glass (or two) of wine.

What else can I say? Five stars all the way, eh!

  • This couldn't have been a better experience for my first Airbnb! Mark and Johnny were very informative, funny yet courteous and displayed some good ol' American hospitality. Their home is absolutely beautiful and couldn't possibly recommend it anymore!

  • Very clean room and bed. I highly recommend staying here. These two gentlemen were very accommodating, even allowing me to use their iron and ironing board. They have a beautiful house in a safe, quiet neighborhood. They give you privacy, and have lots of helpful suggestions for things to do and places to eat. I had a very positive experience here. If you're trying to stay close to the Del Rey Marina or Culver City areas, I think this is easily one of the best places in terms of cost and hospitality.

  • Johnny and Mark were wonderful hosts. They gave us bikes to ride to the beach, great ideas for places to go and things to do while we were Los Angeles. We deffiniatly recommend that you pick this Airbnb for your stay.

  • This is a beautiful house with awesome hosts. It is so clean and Johnny and Mark are great. Breakfast was amazing and they will share places to go and stories about their town. The dogs are lovely and help that separation when you are missing your own dogs back home. I would highly recommend this property for your visit to LA.

  • Mark and Johnny are great and helpful hosts. They met us upon arrival and gave us a tour around the house. Their house is conveniently located relative to the airport and main sites. It is spacious and stylish. They have a small vegetable garden and a patio in the back.
The guys gave us useful tips on where to go for sightseeing, shopping and drinks in LA. They also lent us their bikes which we rode to the Venice beach, not far from the house.
The room where we stayed was very comfortable and cozy. They served us a lovely vegan breakfast with fresh fruits and delicious homemade guava jam.
Also, Mark and Johnny have the friendliest dogs ever (we loved Wolfie).
We enjoyed our stay and we would love to stay with them on our next visit to LA.

We both work in the entertainment industry.
We're Johnny and Mark, a super-fun, committed (21 years and counting) and married gay couple in our early 50s. We live on Ballona Creek in Del Rey, 3.5 miles from the gorgeous Pacific Ocean. We share our beautifully and recently renovated home with our 2 hilarious and well-behaved dogs, Sigi and Wolfgang (we hope you love dogs) and you're welcome to join us on one of your daily local hikes. We're right on the famous Ballona Creek Bike Path; you can grab one of our beach cruiser bikes and head out to the beach at Playa Del Rey or to the Marina, Venice, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach. We have 2 beautiful guest rooms, one with a queen-sized bed, the other with a double bed. We can sleep 4 comfortably and if you're more we can figure something out. Both rooms share a private bath and have premium streaming cable TV with HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Amazon and super-fast wifi. We're a non-smoking vegan household, but smoking is OK outside and non-vegan food items are OK too. We may be vegan but don't worry: we're tolerant, non-judgy and non-preachy vegans. Explore Los Angeles (you'll always do best if you rent a car) and let us insiders point you toward some of our favorite places such as Marilyn Monroe's crypt, the best views of the Hollywood sign, the stores where the studios sell their wardrobe collections, plus other places only real Angelinos know. We love our city and want you to live with us as a local, and that means if you're around there'll be drinkies on cocktail nights (Mark makes a mean vodka martini!). Of course, breakfast is always included. Our home is your home. Johnny parle un excellent français y habla OK español (para un chico blanco). Mark taler perfkt dansk, og OK norsk. Wir sprechen OK deutsche.
