City centre beautiful Georgian flat

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Lennox St, Dublin, County Dublin Dublin 8, Ireland

The Space

We are renting the basement floor of our restored Georgian home on a tree-lined residential street in Portobello, Dublin, which is a self-contained flat.

The apartment has the feel of a country cottage with an original stone hearth fireplace in the kitchen, original slate flooring and beautiful cast iron radiators. There is a newly fitted kitchen with fridge, two ring hob and an oven/microwave. There is also a newly fitted Victorian style bathroom. Added to this there is Sky TV, DVD player, a washer/dryer and wireless internet. There is also a good supply of books in the bedroom and DVDs in the living room.

Your fridge will be stocked with all the basics when you arrive - milk, butter, home-made granola, bread, honey and fruit. I will be more than happy to advise you on good restaurants, bars and things to see whilst you're in Dublin. Myself and my husband live just upstairs so if you have any questions or problems, you can just text or call and we will be right down to you.

We will also provide you with clean towels and dressing gowns. Parking is pay and display but we have 24 hour passes that we are happy to give for free for a 2/3 day stay. If you are staying for longer then we would ask for the cost of the passes as we have to pay for them. These are 1.50 per day.

I can't explain to you enough how incredibly central this location is whilst also feeling so quiet and residential. That's why we bought a house here, because it is a perfect location! There are so many gorgeous places to eat and drink just on your doorstep and the canal is moments away. Grafton street and the city centre is a twenty minute walk away. There are buses at the end of our road which go into the city centre if you don't want to walk.

So that our guests have their own entrance and can come and go as they please, entrance to the apartment is via the downstairs door. This means you actually enter via the bathroom! It is the property's only quirk but I wanted to mention it as it is unusual.

To get to the front door of the apartment, you must go down a metal staircase. This may be an issue for people with reduced mobility or prams. We haven't had an issue yet but I just wanted to flag it up!

Check in is at 2pm and check out is before 12pm. If we are able to accommodate early check ins and late check outs then we will do so but we can't know this until the week before the dates of your stay.

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the basement apartment and the small outside space that is either side of it. They will not have access to our house upstairs.

Interaction with Guests

Apart from rare occasions when we are away, we are always in the house above the apartment. We interact with our guests as much or as little as they like! We tend to let the guest dictate how much they would like to interact but we are literally upstairs if they would like to talk to us at any point.

The Neighborhood

Portobello is a beautiful neighbourhood with loads of lovely old Georgian and Victoria houses. It has a lovely park on our doorstep and town is literally a fifteen minute walk away. Coupled with that we have absolutely loads of really nice cafes and restaurants literally on our doorstep. Our street itself is tree-lined with a nice, residential feel to it despite the fact we are so close to everything.

Getting around

We generally walk into town but there are buses at the end of our road going in all directions and the Luas is a 5 minute walk away.

Other Things to Note

We have a travel cot that we are happy to loan to guests with young children.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We had a wonderful trip to Dublin made even better by our wonderful hosts. The apartment is an easy walk into the city which made getting to around a breeze.
The flat is very homey and comfortable and Lisa made it extra special by stocking the kitchen with bread, fruit and wine, and had lots of good tips on places to see and restaurants to visit. She even made us dinner reservations at her favourite restaurant.

Ian and Lisa are super helpful and we'd love to stay with them again. Thanks guys!

  • We stayed in Lisa's comfortable and beautifully furnished apartment in Portobello for 5 days. The neighbourhood is a really great place and only a short walk in to the centre of Dublin. The muesli and bread she left us were much appreciated.

Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to stay in Dublin outside of Temple Bar.

  • Lisa's place is in a great location, with a great kitchen and all that you might need for your stay available in her flat. She's also taken the time to provide some excellent tips for where to go out in her area: all of the spots we tested were excellent!

  • Lisa's apartment is a charming basement apartment right near the center of Dublin. It's an easy walk into the city center/Temple Bar area or only a block away from public buses. Lisa was a wonderful host. She was very communicative before and during our stay and was incredibly helpful in suggesting local eateries and attractions. We were able to see all the sites as well as enjoy a few local pubs all within walking distance. I would highly recommend this wonderful apartment to anyone staying in Dublin.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Lisa´s and Ian´s flat for four nights. I can highly recommend it!! It is lovely furnished, very cosy, situated in a quiet area and within 15-20 minutes (by foot) you are right in the city centre. There are also many restaurants, pubs and museums around. You can either have breakfast in the flat (Lisa provides coffee, tea, bread, butter, honey, granola and milk for the start so you don´t have to buy stuff straight after your arrival, which I found very comfortable) or you visit the nice little cafe right opposite the flat. If you come later than 10 o´clock people queue to get a table, because it´s very popular. Unfortuantely we didn´t get the chance to get to know Lisa and Ian personally because they were out of town but we were welcomed with flowers and a book with personal recommendations. Ian´s mother let us into the flat, showed us everything and we had her phone number for “emergencies“. If we come back to Dublin one day we´ll defenitely stay there again!

  • Lovely flat, very nicely done up with an extremely comfortable bed. My partner and I stayed for a long weekend with our two-year-old son and it was extremely convenient to have milk in the fridge, coffee, a bit of bread and honey etc. Really nice area near the canal, a short walk from the centre but very quiet and with lots of nice cafes and things nearby. Lisa was an excellent host and her folder of local recommendations is ace!

  • This is a great place to stay! It's in a central location with many good restaurants within easy walking distance including a good bistro directly across the street. The flat is very nice, spacious, clean. comfortable and quiet. Lisa is a lovely, accommodating host. She provided breakfast makings and was helpful in so many ways...recommending things to see, making restaurant and cab reservations etc.
The private entrance to the flat is a bathroom which is unusual but it didn't bother us.

  • We visited for 2 nights in September fresh off a flight from the US west coast. Lisa was kind enough to accommodate us for early check in. The location was great, in a residential area of the city about 15 minutes walk to the downtown attractions. We liked it there as it was quieter than staying in the downtown area near Temple Bar. Walking anywhere around seemed quite safe and there were plenty of places to eat nearby. No need for a car if you have just going about the town.
The place itself is a 2 room lower level (we would call it a basement in North America) with a bedroom and a separate kitchen/sitting area. It has its own private full bathroom as well. Lisa provided granola, fruit, milk, coffee, fresh bread for breakfast which was perfect for us.
All in all, exactly as advertised and would definitely recommend this place.

  • Great flat- cute, cozy, plenty of room, good water pressure. Close to all the great things to see in Dublin but out of the tourist area and in nice quiet neighborhood. Reasonable walking distance to all or just half a block from the bus. Also really enjoyed the nearby pub and coffeeshop and Lisa's number one recommended restaurant Camden Kitchen was delish!

  • Thanks to Lisa for all her help and hospitality, nothing seemed like too much trouble. The flat itself is lovely and the area was perfect for exploring the city. Not to mention the breakfasts available opposite.

I would not hesitate in recommending the flat, the hosts and the location to anybody looking to spend a bit of time exploring Dublin.

I am a 35 year old English woman living in Dublin with my Irish husband and our new baby boy born in October last year. We run lunchtime market stalls all around Dublin. I like to make the spaces I live in homely but stylish and I hope this is exactly how you will find our apartment.
