We are renting the basement floor of our restored Georgian home on a tree-lined residential street in Portobello, Dublin, which is a self-contained flat.
The apartment has the feel of a country cottage with an original stone hearth fireplace in the kitchen, original slate flooring and beautiful cast iron radiators. There is a newly fitted kitchen with fridge, two ring hob and an oven/microwave. There is also a newly fitted Victorian style bathroom. Added to this there is Sky TV, DVD player, a washer/dryer and wireless internet. There is also a good supply of books in the bedroom and DVDs in the living room.
Your fridge will be stocked with all the basics when you arrive - milk, butter, home-made granola, bread, honey and fruit. I will be more than happy to advise you on good restaurants, bars and things to see whilst you're in Dublin. Myself and my husband live just upstairs so if you have any questions or problems, you can just text or call and we will be right down to you.
We will also provide you with clean towels and dressing gowns. Parking is pay and display but we have 24 hour passes that we are happy to give for free for a 2/3 day stay. If you are staying for longer then we would ask for the cost of the passes as we have to pay for them. These are 1.50 per day.
I can't explain to you enough how incredibly central this location is whilst also feeling so quiet and residential. That's why we bought a house here, because it is a perfect location! There are so many gorgeous places to eat and drink just on your doorstep and the canal is moments away. Grafton street and the city centre is a twenty minute walk away. There are buses at the end of our road which go into the city centre if you don't want to walk.
So that our guests have their own entrance and can come and go as they please, entrance to the apartment is via the downstairs door. This means you actually enter via the bathroom! It is the property's only quirk but I wanted to mention it as it is unusual.
To get to the front door of the apartment, you must go down a metal staircase. This may be an issue for people with reduced mobility or prams. We haven't had an issue yet but I just wanted to flag it up!
Check in is at 2pm and check out is before 12pm. If we are able to accommodate early check ins and late check outs then we will do so but we can't know this until the week before the dates of your stay.
Guests will have access to the basement apartment and the small outside space that is either side of it. They will not have access to our house upstairs.
Interaction with Guests
Apart from rare occasions when we are away, we are always in the house above the apartment. We interact with our guests as much or as little as they like! We tend to let the guest dictate how much they would like to interact but we are literally upstairs if they would like to talk to us at any point.
Portobello is a beautiful neighbourhood with loads of lovely old Georgian and Victoria houses. It has a lovely park on our doorstep and town is literally a fifteen minute walk away. Coupled with that we have absolutely loads of really nice cafes and restaurants literally on our doorstep. Our street itself is tree-lined with a nice, residential feel to it despite the fact we are so close to everything.
We generally walk into town but there are buses at the end of our road going in all directions and the Luas is a 5 minute walk away.
Other Things to Note
We have a travel cot that we are happy to loan to guests with young children.
Please no smoking in the apartment, but there is an outside space where guests can go if they wish to smoke.
We have a dog upstairs in our part of the house but they do not have access to any part of the apartment when we have guests. They do when it is not being used however, so anyone with allergies may be affected.
We welcome guests with dogs as long as they are well behaved and know that the bathroom is outside!
What a most fabulous apartment in a superb location. We stayed for a long weekend in Lisa's apartment & it felt like home from home. Lisa was such a super host and her attention to detail in the apartment is super, there was even bread on the counter and butter in the fridge! Everything in the city is just a walk away, with great bars and restaurants at the doorstep. When back in Dublin will be hoping it is available.
Thanks for a lovely stay.
Beautiful apartment in a fantastic location! Lisa made us feel very welcome and went the extra mile to make sure we had a good trip. She had great suggestions of local bars and things to do and was happy to book restaurants and taxis for us. Only stayed for the weekend and simply wasn't long enough! Would definitely recommend staying here to others.
(And the homemade granola went down a treat!)
The flat is great: clean, very quiet, well-appointed, nicely decorated and in a fun location (lots of pubs, restaurants etc) very close to the centre of town. Lisa and Ian were fantastic hosts, very welcoming and always on hand to help out when needed, but also gave us our privacy. On arrival the kitchen was thoughtfully stocked with the essentials as well as some nice non-essentials. They also did a very good job of introducing the area, providing a well thought out guide to local places to eat, drink, catch some music etc. We now live in Dublin and would definitely recommend Lisa's place to visiting friends and family.
It was a grate experience to stay in Dublin for one month in Lisa's apartament. It Is a perfect location. And all conforts. Lisa is an excellent and warming host .Thank you Lisa by Andrea and Giulia..they had a very nice stay....we highly recommend you apartment to stay in Dublin!
Our stay with Lisa was great. She was a very attentive and helpful host. The flat was simply but tastefully furnished, with everything we could possibly need. There were some (delicious) basic provisions for us when we arrived, including a bottle of wine. The flat was centrally situated with easy access to town and the Charlemont Luas stop. We would definately stay there again and would have no hesitation in recommending her to others.
Thank you Lisa!

It could not have been a better experience in Dublin and Lisa's apartment definetely played a big role in this! Not only very cute and clean but central and Lisa was a warming and awesome host. Everytime again! Definetely recommendable!
Lisa was a fantastic host, really friendly and helpful. The apartment was great and the location was perfect. There were lots of lovely little touches like super soft towels and bathrobes and a healthy breakfast. Highly recommended, thanks Lisa!
I am a 36 year old English woman living in Dublin with my Irish husband and our 18 month old baby boy. Ian runs lunchtime market stalls all around Dublin and I have an interiors and lifestyle store two streets away from our house.
I like to make the spaces I live in homely but stylish and I hope this is exactly how you will find our apartment.
