*Please note, the price is PER ROOM as there are 3 separate rooms with the largest room having its own bathroom, and this room (the grey room) potentially sharing a bathroom with one other single person in the house. Please see my other listings for the different rooms available and there is AN OPTION TO RENT ALL OF THEM TO HAVE THE ENTIRE HOME TO YOURSELF.The price for the WHOLE HOME is $350 a night when I am not living there. Otherwise, there may be others sharing the kitchen and living areas at times similar to a Bed & Breakfast. Still there is quite a bit of room to not feel anyone elses presence :) Laundry can be done for you on premises for a small fee, but is not for our guest's use, sorry.
The easiest way to the house is by car service, which you can secure immediately as you depart the airport terminal.
Please contact Alissa with any questions and interest!
Also, note, any guests who do not check out promptly by 11a will be charged a $20 late fee for every hour they are late. Unfortunately, we need to implement this now as many people are not honoring the check-out times and our time that we need to get the room and house ready for the next guests. We ask that everyone please be mindful of the check out times so we can be considerate of the next guests. We would be happy to hold luggage for you if your flight takes off later on in the day, but we absolutely need to have the room vacant by 11a. Thanks!
Very nice, clean home. The bed was very comfortable after a day of sight seeing. Loved the windows with natural light coming in. Alissa provided information that was helpful and additional information requested. It is a short walk to the ferry and the bus stop is just a few houses down at the corner, which was wonderful for returning to the house at night after getting off the ferry. We used bus 52. Loved being able to have a cup of tea in the morning, making a good breakfast before starting the day. Also, a tiny grocery store across the street from the bus stop and a few buildings up was nice. Housekeeper was wonderful! Enjoyed meeting others from various countries. The room and home added to the blessings of our trip. Would stay again. Only concern are the many steps up to the house if one is elderly, disabled or vision impaired. Again, great place to stay and feel at home!
We arrived a little early and were allowed to drop off our bags before heading to the city. The walk took us 25 min but we had 2 small children with us. We took the bus from the house to the ferry and that was much better. They connect and on weekdays they ride often. The ferry goes every half hour (except rush hour). But to come from South Ferry to fe central park is an other half hour. So account over an hour of travel time. For us with small kids this wasn't convenient.
The room looked nice and as on the picture. But there were just thin white shades no real blinds so our kids woke up too early. So be warned if you do not like the light in the morning.
The kids were on an air mattress. On the first evening it wasn't pumped. No working pump around. After contact with Alissa and trying to find solutions she let us stay in an extra room. Next day we had a fully pumped air matress so we could sleep in one room. This was very nice. The room wasn't much larger than the double bed and the airmatress and furniture. But we just stayed here to sleep. Do that was OK for us.
We used the tv with netflix and that was working fine. There is a convenience store close by. The larger grocery shop was close to the ferry. The ferry terminal had plenty of breakfast options.
The view from the ferry in the evening over Manhattan is wonderfull.
Nice traditional room and very nice and clean house. We enjoyed our stay and surely recommend it.
Several things to say... Alissa was absolutely wonderful to communicate with. She was not only prompt and thorough, but it is very evident through her e-mails that she loves being an Air B&B host, and greatly cares about her clients. She wants you to have a positive experience at her home!
We arrived at the house in the afternoon, and was impressed with the neighborhood. Lots of lovely homes.
The commute to and from the ferry is around fifteen minutes walking. During the day, it is a very comfortable walk. During the night hours however, my friends and I (all girls) did not feel safe walking home. Lots of people walking the streets, many appeared drunk and made snarky remarks at us, and we were very uncomfortable. Taxi or bus is the way to go.
Regarding the house, it is a lovely old home. The room was smaller than we were expecting, however it was definitely functional for us three girls for the weekend. The biggest complaint would be that because the house is old, everything creaked and made loud noises. It is impossible to be quiet in the house, so as not to disturb the other people sleeping there. The stairwell makes a lot of noises walking up and down, the upper hallway, the doors... too many noises, and you are guaranteed to wake up the others if you get back late at night!
Also, the bathroom door does not shut all the way- and is only secured by a hook latch. The shower has two temperatures, very hot and lukewarm/cold.
Common areas are lovely, kitchen is stocked with coffee, Netflix and WiFi passwords are available, and the other individuals staying at the house were extremely kind and welcoming.
Dominique, it was an absolute pleasure having you, as well! Just wanted to touch on the fact that you didn't feel safe walking home. New York is a city and therefore you will always have a city environment to navigate and discern (and comments from men for beautiful girls will happen anywhere :). That being said, Staten Island is actually THE safest borough in all of New York City! I lived here as a single girl commuting every day to and from Manhattan for 15 years and I never, ever felt unsafe. I purposely chose this neighborhood for its convenience to manhattan, and for the safety. On the ferry there are police officials at every corner, and this is a family neighborhood with many children and professionals. I do think it's important to be wise but I walked home every day of my 15 years here and never had a problem, along with all of our hundreds of guests over the years :) The bus is always a great option, anyway, after a long day of walking in the city. I am happy to hear you enjoyed yourselves and would love to have you all back with us!
