Charles' flat is bohemian chic and nicely located with lovely and typically Parisian views from the juliette balconies that are worth the maze-like pathways in the building. Some might find this off-putting. I found it charming. The flat was as expected and Charles was an in touch and accommodating host for the greater part of our short stay. Some confusion with wi-fi codes and communication was easily resolved.
The location- close to velib station, square du temple, republique, les enfant rouges etc., made the flat a nice choice for us, and any small improvements that could be made seem like after thoughts.
My by loves that location very much! The supermarket and Metro are just downstairs! Our host was really sweet to reply our questions. And the room was very clean and comfortable. We just looked like visit a friend's house. We enjoyed our stay very much!
There are two floors without lift, a little difficult to carry our big luggage up and down.
Anyway~ we loved there!
First I was very thankful that Charles replied right away as I had trouble with the last 2 hosts that I tried to contact (long story). We contacted each other and we were going to finalize everything before I leave for Europe starting in Amsterdam. However, a few days before the trip I tried contacting Charles several times to no avail. Before I go on a trip, I would like to finalize everything to make sure I am prepared. Especially in a different country where communication via cell phone/email may not be readily available. In any case, I went to Europe with a worry about where and when I should pick up the key. He FINALLY contacted me the day before I was supposed to arrive in Paris and things were settled. So as far as communication he gets a LOW.
The apartment itself is located in a good location near the subway station. A bit out of the outskirts of le Marais but its somewhat near (Bring your walking shoes!) I had wanted to be more in the heart of le Marais but I didn't know, it was my first time in Paris.
Somewhat sketchy neighborhood but manageable. (homeless family sleeping in front of the entrance). To get to apartment you have to go through a maze up, down, and around the corner. Im not kidding! It was b*itch to get in and out of the building especially with huge luggage. That part sucked!
When we walked in, I did elements of what I saw in the pictures I saw on airbnb. It did look like the picture, kind of. Picture: low ceilings, cramped, dungey, old fashioned, and unkempt. But otherwise, everything looked like the picture. (As with anything online, you can't be sure of a picture because things may appear not as appealing in real life ie photoshop, good lighting, angles, etc)
We found out later, what we stayed in are maid chambers from back in the day. Interesting tidbit.
In any case, the view was spectacular and the windows gave that airy feeling in the morning. This place is great if you know you are going to spend most of your time outside enjoying the city like we did.
And by the way, I called airbnb about Charles' lack of communication and the rep named ,Emma, was not very helpful or friendly. She basically she would try contacting him but if not then I am basically sh*t out of luck because of the strict policy. This is not a way to deal with customers especially using this for the first time. She did not leave me with any ease that if anything was to happen that I would be safe. She offered none of that. This was my first time using airbnb. May be well my last.
Thank you for your comment. I hope you had a great stay in my place, but I would like to precise a few words :
- The flat is in le Marais, on top of it, in the more family and bobo district, at 100m of the new Carreau du Temple or Rue de Bretagne
- I don't understand your message regarding pictures, the flat is 100% like the picture, and now the bathroom is brand new.
- Communication was difficult, I recieved your email in spam, so I was not able to see that you tried to reach me, in any case, use Text or Airbnb, it's much more easier. As soon as Airbnb called me, I called you. It was unpossible to reach you during the whole week end, when I asked you if you need anything or if everything was well... stressful, especially when you entrust your apartment.
The location is very convenient and the host was always accessible whenever we have questions. Thanks Charles!
