Carmen has a comfortable and stylish home in a terrific location in inner city Melbourne. The home itself is light and airy, with generous living spaces and all the conveniences. The South Melbourne Market is a short walk away, as is the tram to the city and Clarendon Street. Carmen is very welcoming and always happy to help. She is very conscious of everyone's needs and goes to extra effort to ensure that guests have a comfortable and restful stay. This was very much appreciated. Thanks for your hospitality Carmen!
My very first AirBnB stay was great! Carmen was a great host who was easy to talk to and a great communicator. She was very helpful, approachable and at the same time gives you your own space and is very accommodating. I enjoyed the nice selection of teas, muesli and bread for breakfast. The house is in a great location, not in the city centre itself but I enjoyed walking around the surrounding areas - close to Port Melbourne, Crown/southbank area and even a reasonable walk towards the Docklands area. It is a 5 minute walk to the nearest tram stop that takes you to St Kilda or to the city. I hope I will have the opportunity to visit Carmen's place again when in Melbourne... Cheers!
I stayed with Carmen near the end of my trip, and during an abnormal heat wave in Melbourne. Her cute little twin bed room was just perfect to have a clean, relaxing and quiet experience. She made sure I was comfortable, and saw what I wanted to around the city. I also just enjoyed chatting with her! Highly recommend for a calm and relaxed stay in Melbourne.
I had a wonderful stay with Carmen, her house was relaxing, spacious and still somehow cozy. Her house is situated on a busy street and very easy to find just 10mins walk from the tram line. You have the markets just around the corner and Carmen recommended a great little yoga studio down the road just on Union street, which I feel in love with. I would definitely recommend staying with Carmen she is a fabulous host.
Carmen is very friendly and charming. The home is gorgeous. The location is great. No problems at all getting in, getting out, or getting around. Would definitely stay again.
Excellent place and host! This was my first experience with airbnb and I am very happy with my choice.
Carmen's house is a unique spot, well located near the south melbourne market (open wed, fri, sat, sun) and next door to the most affordable cafe I found in Australia (open weekdays). Her house is a mix of modern and period, with a lovely scent that has lingered on my backpack for days. She has a second room for rent, which means getting the opportunity to meet other travelers, always nice when you're far from home. Carmen is happy to chat about melbourne, give advice, and lend an umbrella for a rainy spring weekend. In addition to being a naturopath, Carmen is a conservationist, and helpful notes throughout the apartment guide guests as to how they can play their part to support melbourne's drought. Carmen is very direct and a great communicator: as she'll tell you, if you need something, ask!
Carmen's other reviews are deservedly positive; here are a few details that could be helpful to know up-front (most of which are included in the detailed check-in information she provides):
-check in time is important; Carmen is busy, and even a small delay might mean she can't be there. If this happens, the cafe next door or the salon a few doors down can help you get wifi. (Carmen had left me email instructions to get in.)
-sound carries in the house, which means hearing footsteps above during the night, Carmen or guests leaving the house in the early morning, and the cafe next door during weekdays. (Perhaps the upstairs room is quieter...)
-showers are to be taken before 10pm
-this room doesn't have a closet or natural light; it does have amazingly high ceilings.
-wifi is for "email and light use"
Thanks Marisa, It's good for other people who stay to know that if there is a flight delay and I have later commitments I may not be there to greet them. On the 2 occasions this has occurred it has been straightforward and I’m fortunate to have reliable and helpful neighbors.
Thanks for the tip about the footsteps, nobody else has ever mentioned this! Others have mentioned that it is a very quiet room in the inner city, nice and dark and great for sleeping. Yes, the polished oak floorboards have this charming characteristic. I would have appreciated knowing you were having difficulties with this noise at the time and I could have taken my shoes off and closed the hallway doors when you were home.
I really do encourage people to pass on their needs at the time. Everyone has different sensitivities (hence being mindful of showering when others are sleeping).
To be clear about the internet - is fair use only as I have download and upload limits. Therefore use for daily emails and internet searches is unlimited rather than downloading or uploading large files. Large files can all be done at Federation Square. Therefore I suggest to do the following elsewhere; streaming movies or music through an Internet-radio application, games, especially the ones that run ads, uploading photos, etc., to social-media sites
The room has coat hangers and hanging hooks for as many clothes as anyone may wish to hang, drawers and cupboards to use. I’ll check in with other guests about this and look to replace the existing dresser with a wardrobe!
Carmen was a great host, friendly and really attentive. The house is lovely and location is really good, with easy access to public transportation and also within walking distance to nice places to visit in Melbourne. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend a stay with Carmen. Thank you!
Carmen's place was conveniently located and good value. It's also well decorated, with a cute roof terrace. Carmen was friendly and helpful in recommending local spots to visit, such as the market. I really enjoyed my stay.
I was very happy with my stay at Carmens house and would definitely recommend it over staying in a hotel. The interior design of the house is lovely and my room was very comfortable. Everything was very clear and organised and Carmen was a great hostess who I enjoyed talking to when I got the chance.
