Open Concept Modern Country Cottage 90 Min North of Boston - Fully Equipped and Newly Renovated!

Nestled in the woods 90 minutes North of Boston (and 20 minutes North of Concord, New Hampshire) this newly renovated 800 square foot (75 sq meter) passive solar 'barn' is ideal for short getaways and longer holiday escapes to explore New England.

This cottage/barn is newly converted to a Scandinavian influenced modern design open concept bedroom loft with adjacent room and Fouton bed on main floor. Can sleep 6 comfortably. Has a skylight, is furnished and has a fully equipped kitchen. Designed by and for my daughter, Nell.

Set back from road and very private, the property boasts loads of light and hardwood floors throughout - in addition to a greenhouse for soaking up the sun.

Cottage faces directly onto a garden and spacious country outdoor area for evening drinks and outdoor dining in the warmer months. In the colder months, the winter wonderland surrounds the cottage, while the fireplace, a cup of tea and good book keep you cozy indoors.

5 minutes from Loudon International Raceway and 2 minutes from the historic Canterbury Shaker Village.

Skiing, Hiking, Kayaking, Canoeing, Zipline tree-top canopy tours in the White Mountains, Golf, Tennis, Fishing, Baking Classes at King Arthur Flour in Vermont, Herb Classes at Shaker Village Canterbury, local smoke house and maple syrup production just around the corner are just a few of the days trips accessible from the property. Not to mention the lovely local walks accessible by stepping out the front door.

Year-round the area is rich in a wide variety of activities - an hour's drive North to the White Mountains and an hour East to New Hampshire and Maine Seacoast.

  • The cottage was absolutely perfect for a quiet and relaxing weekend. Tory greeted us with delicious homemade brownies on our arrival. She was an excellent host and gave us great suggestions for things to do in the area. The kitchen was very well equipped and we had everything we needed to cook meals. The cottage was beautifully decorated. We had lots of fun using the snowshoes provided in the cottage. Would love to visit again!

  • We had a wonderful weekend at Tory's cottage. The cottage itself is beautifully designed, making you feel as though there is no one else for miles around, even though there is another house up the hill. We were there with deep snow and it made it feel very cozy. Tory was an excellent host, there were Valentine's cookies and chocolates on our arrival and she came down to personally greet us. She was able to give us information about our surroundings, including where to go snowshoeing. She also made it very easy for us to have our dog with us (he's a calm, older labrador). The cottage is also right down the road from the Canterbury Shaker Village, and if you love classic New England archeitecture it is not to be missed. Otherwise, cozy up, read a book, cook delicious food and get lots of rest and relaxation. It was a wonderful weekend!

  • Tory was a terrific host. Her guest house was a wonderful retreat and had everything we needed for a relaxing, woodsy weekend. Tory was easy to contact and communicate with, and she was nearby in case we needed anything. We hope to visit again!

  • Tory and her Guest House were great!

I didn't get a chance to meet Tory in person, but she was an excellent e-host. She communicated regularly before our stay, provided great packet of advice at the Guest House on where to go/eat, and even left a sweet treat for our arrival. The Guest House was even better than the photos. The location is a bit remote, but that's what we were looking for. It has a great kitchen for cooking your own meals, the bathroom was super clean and functional, the beds were comfortable, and the open space made for a great environment.

    I'd definitely stay there again!

  • We loved our stay at Tory's cottage. The cottage itself is bigger and better than photos can depict. It was clean, modern, and tastefully decorated. Like other reviewers have said, the kitchen is fantastic and fully stocked. The bed was very comfortable and I think we slept better than any other place we've stayed so far. The cottage is also well insulated, so we did not need to use the AC much even in the hot summer weather. The surroundings are gorgeous, serene and private. We went on a few drives through the lovely local community (be sure to check out Shaker Village) and the White Mountains, which was closer than we expected (about an hour away). Tory was a wonderful and generous host. We very much enjoyed meeting and talking with her. Highly recommend staying here!

  • We were in town for the Timberman 70.3 race and booked with Tory at the last minute (due to last minute travel changes). She was so incredibly helpful. We had the newly renovated house to ourselves - beautiful kitchen and comfortable beds. Tory was very helpful and was a welcoming hostess. We had a really great time and recommend her place to anyone staying in the area (20 minutes to the race start!).

  • What a gorgeous place! Absolutely everything you could possibly want for a comfortable stay - especially if you like to cook - was here. It was really great to have such a well kitted out kitchen - we didn't cook a lot but were able to self cater so easily. She also left breakfast makings in the fridge for our first morning, which also made us feel very spoiled and welcome.

The place is compact but perfect, with many beautiful and whimsical touches. Fresh flowers inside, flowers by the door, beautiful art pieces..

Tory made us very welcome and was extremely accommodating when we needed to change our reservation. She even made us a beautiful cake decorated with fresh flowers and left it for us, knowing had gotten married the day we arrived!

What a lovely experience - thank you Tory!

  • Tory was a wonderful host and the Shaker Guest House a beautiful place to stay. Wish we stayed longer to enjoy the Shaker Village nearby and spend more time at the lovely house. The house fit 5 of us comfortably with room to spare, the open layout is beautiful and full kitchen was perfect for a weekend with friends.

  • We came up to NH for the Tough Mudder event and Tory's place was great. She was a great host and very easy to get along with. The place was clean and comfortable.

  • We had a wonderful time at Tory's cottage! It was perfect for four of us to sleep comfortably. It was clean and it had pretty much everything we needed for the three days we stayed there. We used the BBQ the first night and relaxed at the cottage the rest of the trip. We did drive a little bit to some walking trails and to a smoke house in the neighborhood, which were both awesome. Our dog Haiku ran around the backyard (which is pretty much the forest) and had a wonderful time too. Tory was very nice and friendly! She let us stay till quite late on our check out date since nobody was coming to stay in the cottage right after us. We will definitely be back again.

Greetings - Thank you for taking a look at our property. I have lived in the area since the mid-70's, and as much as I love traveling and seeing the world, I love coming home to the area and the fresh air and open skies of New Hampshire after being away. I grew up in Connecticut and have been a professional in education on many levels since returning from the Peace Corps in Ethiopia in 1973. I currently live on the property up the hill in the main house on the property - don't worry - privacy I appreciate and respect - so you'll only see me to welcome you or when you need assistance with something. I hope you will come enjoy our country retreat. We love the space and think you will too...
