Aloha! Our newly remodeled studio is light and airy, a lovely place to come home to after exploring all that Kauai's North Shore has to offer. After enjoying a home-cooked meal on the lanai, end your day in the jacuzzi by the pool gazing at stars.
Cheerfully decorated studio, perfect for one or two people, has a new flat screen TV, wifi Internet connection, comfortable queen bed, fan, mini-fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, hot plate, coffee maker, toaster and blender. The vanity sink doubles as a place to do dishes. Private outdoor lanai with seating for two. Games, puzzles, and books. For the beach, towels, chairs, umbrella, and boogie boards.
Sandpiper Village has an open layout with lawns and tropical landscaping. It includes a pool area with a large tiled pool, HOT jacuzzi, and two gas powered bbq grills for your use. Either dine poolside at one of the several umbrella-covered tables or under the covered pavilion, or take your meal back to your place.
Interaction with guests
We spend time on the mainland as well as in Kauai. If we are on island, we will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. In our absence, our property manager will be glad to assist you.
Kauai's North Shore is possibly the most beautiful spot on Earth! Princeville is perched above legendary Hanalei Bay and has its own shopping center complete with a supermarket, post office, yoga studio, cafe, galleries, shops and restaurants. Come enjoy its golf courses, bike/walking path, secluded beaches, and sunset views. Outdoor activities abound-- hike, bike, kayak, zipline, horseback ride to a waterfall, windsurf, snorkel, stand up paddle board, take surf lessons, or just grab a beach chair, sink your toes into the sand and take it all in!
Although there is a bus that runs from Kekaha on the south side to Hanalei on the north side of the island, unless everywhere you want to go is within walking distance of the bus route, a rental vehicle is pretty much a necessity in getting around Kauai.
Other things to note
Because the apartment is in a condo complex, there are some things that are out of our control, such as unscheduled pool maintenance, in which case not only the pool but the jacuzzi and BBQ grills are unavailable.
Internet access is not 100% reliable--our provider, Oceanic Time Warner, occasionally does maintenance and high winds and/or storms can interrupt service as well.
The condo shares a wall with the unit next door. While we did put in extra soundproofing, it's not perfect. If you are planning on spending lots of time indoors, this may be a problem.
Cell coverage from within the condo (and in Kauai in general) is much better with Verizon than AT&T (don't know about other carriers).
Unassigned parking spots are limited and available on a 'first come first served' basis. (Numbered spots are assigned to residents and are not available, even when empty.) During the day, this is not a problem, but if you know you are going to be arriving in the evening, please let me know so I can suggest an alternative.
As in most residences in Kauai, there is no air conditioning. During late spring and summer months, when Kauai is at its hottest, there are two standing fans available for your use. Please turn them off when you go out.
Your total includes 4% General Excise Tax (Hawaii Tax ID GE-107-556-4544-01) and 9.25% Transient Accommodations Tax (Hawaii Tax ID TA-107-556-4544-01).
No smoking either in the condo, the lanai, or on Sandpiper Village grounds. No pets. No glass in the pool area. When parking, please do not park in numbered spots marked 'reserved'. Sandpiper Village has residents as well as vacationers, so please be respectful of our neighbors and be quiet between 9 pm and 8 am. If you are staying longer than 2 weeks, there is a mandatory extra cleaning. Do not use Aveeno sunscreen or other products that include avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) as they stain fabric, including towels, when washed in iron-rich water. No candles inside--if used on the lanai, please clean up any melted wax. The following will be deducted from the security deposit if lost: $25 for door key; $50 for pool key; $10 for parking pass.
My husband Rob is an architect/developer and I am recently retired from working in IT at a large northern California utility company. We knew each other in our early teens and remained friends into our 20s. In 2004 we ran into each other completely serendipitously and a few years later were married in our garden in Berkeley, surrounded by friends and family. We are both interested in art, architecture and music, where his tastes are classically inclined and mine tend more towards the Grateful Dead and lately, everything ukulele. We love hiking, reading, traveling and good conversation.
My first trip to Kauai was in 1975 and it was love at first sight. Smitten, and haunted by memories of green and blue and rainbows and Bali Hai, I moved there in 1977, just in time for my twin daughters to be born at Wilcox Hospital in Lihue. We ended up moving back to the mainland a year later, but in the intervening years, we vacationed there many times as a family. One of the twins eventually heeded the island's call and in 2012 moved to Princeville with her husband and family. (You could probably count on one hand the number of days they have not been at the beach or on a wave since moving!) I hope to persuade my city-loving husband to consider retiring to Kauai. So far he has promised me a month per year. That's a star
