Interaction with Guests
We try to meet all our guests and generally do not rent when we are not at home unless we have repeat guests. We are occasionally in the shared TV room but try to be out of there by 10 PM. (You also have a TV in the guest room. We encourage you to tell us your needs and to ask questions to insure a pleasant stay. Guests have been known to enjoy my husband's guitar and to see a few of his magic tricks. We both like to chat but respect the guest's privacy. We do not go into the guest room when the room is rented unless a guest requests something. Let us know if you would like a linen change or room cleaning for longer stays.
The neighborhood is very safe for taking a walk or going to the bakery, Pub, library, pizza shop, Chinese food, laundromat, church, library, tiny museum, or bus stop. We are in the Belchertown Historic District.
Please see the five college/UMASS bus schedule online to see the latest routes and schedules. The bus stop is a very short walk from the house. Please note that the bus runs less frequently when the colleges are not in session. There are no local taxis. Valley Transportation in Amherst is a good company for rides to and from the airport or train. Rental cars are available in Amherst about 15 minutes away and on the bus line and sometimes deliver. If we are going out, we are happy to drop you off or pick you up when mutually convenient.
Other Things to Note
Please message us if interested in a long stay. We can offer further discounts once we talk about your daily needs.
Plenty of off street parking. If you have a high vehicle such as a U-Haul, please talk with us, since special arrangements are needed to avoid our overhanging roof.
Please note that airbnb, com policy requires that the person making the reservation be at least one of the people staying here during the reservation. If you have interested friends or family, please encourage them to register with airbnb.com.
We love children but limit our accommodations to older children (6 or older) since our old house is not childproof for the younger ones. Communicate your needs so that we can keep you happy! Shared bathroom requires personal consideration. (Note that you may reserve the bathroom and TV room as private for an additional fee.) No additional overnight guests. No smoking in the house. Please don't set off the fire alarm. We don't have a lot of rules, but would prefer not to have ultra noisy guests. Happy to give you privacy, but we would love to visit with you and offer advice on places to visit and services needed. If you have a tall trailer or RV, talk with us so that we can tell you the safest way to park. We have plenty of space but overhead clearance in the driveway is low so we have an alternative approach.
We had a great time at this beautiful house. It's a huge and clean room with microwave, coffee machine with everything to make a coffee, fridge,... and a lot of space for luggage. The house is wonderful with a great charm. Chris and Fran are very nice hosts and we regret that we did not stay longer. They offered coffee and even breakfast with fresh fruits... . We felt like home.
Fran and Chris were fantastic! They were warm and welcoming and had a lovely home. This house was gorgeous and it was close enough to all the schools in the 5-college valley. We stayed in their home during my daughter's graduation, and it was no more than a 10/15 minute ride. The room we stayed in was incredibly spacious, had a great bed, a microwave, mini fridge, it truly was like staying at a hotel or a Bed and Breakfast. The room even had a tv and a table, with plenty of closet space. The bathroom was clean and very nice. It was a pleasure staying with Fran and Chris and we recommend their home for a relaxing and wonderful stay!
What a perfect place to stay! Chris and her husband were ideal Airbnb hosts. They were super flexible, friendly, laid back, and attentive to the details of making for a comfortable stay. I arrived VERY late and then woke up VERY early to head out to Brimfield, but they made for a smooth and easy check-in, which made my exhausting cross-country journey less stressful. The home is beautiful and very easy to find. They are very thoughtful to provide breakfast and even packed some up for me when I had to rush out. The room was absolutely perfect with every single item you'd ever need. Loved staying here and would certainly stay here again.
Chris & Fran were wonderful hosts!
Chris provided me with clear directions and instructions to arrive safely and easy to their beautiful victorian house. The guest room that my friend and I occupied was very pretty and super clean. The bed was soft and fresh linens and towels were provided. Like most other reviews, I was truly wowed by having a cup of coffee with both Chris and Fran. I must say that Fran blew my mind away with his magic tricks :) They are a charming couple and have very interesting backgrounds. I'll definitely love to stay at their lovely home if I am passing through town again.
Thank you so much Chris & Fran!!!
Great find! Very comfortable and friendly space. It was exactly as described, only better . Hosts are very communicative and accommodating. And wicked nice. We would return whenever we need accommodations in the Happy Valley.
Chris and Fran couldn't have been nicer or more welcoming. There was clear and quick communication as we set up the stay. The house was large and we had quiet downtime and privacy when desired. The bedroom and bathroom were both clean and comfortable. The neighborhood was charming and safe and it was close and easy to get to our destination surrounding towns. We both felt really at home in their home and would recommend it and stay again ourselves. Great experience!

About the Host, Chris
I am a 64 year old semi-retired hospital administrator currently working in consulting and education. I am also a certified Creative Journal Expressive Arts instructor specializing in combining journaling, meditation and collaging to purse ones life goals. My magician husband, musician and photographer and I live in a 200 year old home in a New England town of about 15,000 people. My travel usually includes him or my adult daughter who lives in the Boston area. His daughter and our granddaughter live nearby and he has a son in Vegas.
I like the expressive arts, drum circles, zoos, crafts, and word games. My favorite travel has been to Thailand and South Africa. My husband has traveled to Thailand and neighboring countries and once lived in Denmark. He loves magic, music and photography. Our experiences have included luxury hotels and minimalist camping, both of which I enjoy. Our food tastes are eclectic.
When traveling we prefer a clean, safe spot; share well and enjoy meeting people. I do have a loud laugh and find humor in most situations. We like to think of ourselves as considerate guests. We are open to making a new friend or simply leaving our guests to their privacy at their discretion. Meeting guests is almost as much fun as staying at new places. We have been hosting for over two years and have had quests from throughout the US, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Canada.
In my early life I wanted to be a cultural anthropologist so perhaps I'm just returning to my true self. If you have an interest in a magic or guitar lesson from my husband while traveling, just let us know. I am also happy to arrange private creative journal coaching when my schedule permits..
