Interaction with Guests
We try to meet all our guests and generally do not rent when we are not at home unless we have repeat guests. We are occasionally in the shared TV room but try to be out of there by 10 PM. (You also have a TV in the guest room. We encourage you to tell us your needs and to ask questions to insure a pleasant stay. Guests have been known to enjoy my husband's guitar and to see a few of his magic tricks. We both like to chat but respect the guest's privacy. We do not go into the guest room when the room is rented unless a guest requests something. Let us know if you would like a linen change or room cleaning for longer stays.
The neighborhood is very safe for taking a walk or going to the bakery, Pub, library, pizza shop, Chinese food, laundromat, church, library, tiny museum, or bus stop. We are in the Belchertown Historic District.
Please see the five college/UMASS bus schedule online to see the latest routes and schedules. The bus stop is a very short walk from the house. Please note that the bus runs less frequently when the colleges are not in session. There are no local taxis. Valley Transportation in Amherst is a good company for rides to and from the airport or train. Rental cars are available in Amherst about 15 minutes away and on the bus line and sometimes deliver. If we are going out, we are happy to drop you off or pick you up when mutually convenient.
Other Things to Note
Please message us if interested in a long stay. We can offer further discounts once we talk about your daily needs.
Plenty of off street parking. If you have a high vehicle such as a U-Haul, please talk with us, since special arrangements are needed to avoid our overhanging roof.
Please note that airbnb, com policy requires that the person making the reservation be at least one of the people staying here during the reservation. If you have interested friends or family, please encourage them to register with airbnb.com.
We love children but limit our accommodations to older children (6 or older) since our old house is not childproof for the younger ones. Communicate your needs so that we can keep you happy! Shared bathroom requires personal consideration. (Note that you may reserve the bathroom and TV room as private for an additional fee.) No additional overnight guests. No smoking in the house. Please don't set off the fire alarm. We don't have a lot of rules, but would prefer not to have ultra noisy guests. Happy to give you privacy, but we would love to visit with you and offer advice on places to visit and services needed. If you have a tall trailer or RV, talk with us so that we can tell you the safest way to park. We have plenty of space but overhead clearance in the driveway is low so we have an alternative approach.
We loved staying with Chris and Fran. The house was beautiful, comfortable, and conveniently located. They are incredibly kind and welcoming, and my only regret of our trip is not spending more time with them. Fran was kind enough to take some pictures of us with our old Cadillac and provided great conversation in the little time we got to spend at the house. I loved the history of their home and the area. We will definitely be coming back to stay with Chris next time we are in the area!
Gracious hosts and charming home. Felt like I was one of the
Family visiting. See you again soon.

Wonderful home! We absolutely loved staying here, everything was so comfortable and charming. Chris and Fran were not there the night that we stayed, but they made sure we had everything we needed, including breakfast for the next morning. I wished our itinerary would have allowed us to stay longer, I would have liked to have spent a whole week at Chris' lovely home. Next time we come up this way, we will definitely plan to stay here!
Fran and Chris were so welcoming and they have a beautiful home. The room was a perfect spot to get some writing done. Thoughtful touches such as a small fridge and microwave in the room. Interesting couple, too--they have quite a few stories which they shared over a leisurely talk over coffee. They even sent me on my way with some Easter cookies.
Really enjoyed my stay.
My goodness- gracious!!!!
I could write a book given the opportunity and time … I stayed here for three
Having travelled and lived in many places around the world including Accra -Ghana,
Abuja – Nigeria, Morogoro –Tanzania, London –England, Aix-en-Provence -France, Florence -Italy, Copenhagen-Denmark, Amsterdam –Holland, Sanchung-Taiwan, Bodo-Norway and of course many cities across the United States, I must say this is one of the best experiences ever.
Beautiful, Thoughtful, Caring, Kind and Amazing couple with a magnificently
beautiful and safe Victorian home away from home in a perfect central location for a
great price. I would definitely recommend this beautiful home to anyone visiting Western-MASS. No five star hotel can provide you this level of cleanliness, comfort, detail, luxury, relaxation, space, security and information about the local area like I experienced in this home.
The hosts are an attraction themselves. Hosting is an art; and Chris and Fran are real amphitryon. I would advise you to save time to just stay at home. If you are lucky as I was, you can be surprised by them playing you some guitar, taking some professional photographs, some magic (like turning $1 bills to $100) and really nice conversation.
Merci Beaucoup, I’d never forget this experience, thanks for sharing your beautiful home with me.
We had such a wonderful time staying with Chris and Fran. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and clean and had anything we might of needed. Chris gave us great recommendations for a lunch spot in north Hampton that we happily followed. In the morning we were offered coffee, hot tea, fruit, and pastry! And best of all great conversation and friendship. Our morning chat (and magic show/lesson!) was one of our favorite memories from our trip. Thank you Chris and Fran!!
Due to a snow storm I couldn't continue my trip and had to stay one more night at Chris's. She was very helpful in this situation. So that I didn't have to worry. They cleaned driveway early and I could have a small trip around the town, which happen to be a cute little town very New England style.

I am a 64 year old semi-retired hospital administrator currently working in consulting and education. I am also a certified Creative Journal Expressive Arts instructor specializing in combining journaling, meditation and collaging to purse ones life goals. My magician husband, musician and photographer and I live in a 200 year old home in a New England town of about 15,000 people. My travel usually includes him or my adult daughter who lives in the Boston area. His daughter and our granddaughter live nearby and he has a son in Vegas.
I like the expressive arts, drum circles, zoos, crafts, and word games. My favorite travel has been to Thailand and South Africa. My husband has traveled to Thailand and neighboring countries and once lived in Denmark. He loves magic, music and photography. Our experiences have included luxury hotels and minimalist camping, both of which I enjoy. Our food tastes are eclectic.
When traveling we prefer a clean, safe spot; share well and enjoy meeting people. I do have a loud laugh and find humor in most situations. We like to think of ourselves as considerate guests. We are open to making a new friend or simply leaving our guests to their privacy at their discretion. Meeting guests is almost as much fun as staying at new places. We have been hosting for over two years and have had quests from throughout the US, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Canada.
In my early life I wanted to be a cultural anthropologist so perhaps I'm just returning to my true self. If you have an interest in a magic or guitar lesson from my husband while traveling, just let us know. I am also happy to arrange private creative journal coaching when my schedule permits..
