Guest Access

Room has refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and TV. May use larger refrigerator in kitchen if needed. Full use of yard in good weather. Arrangements may be made to use basement washer and dryer.

Interaction with Guests

We try to meet all our guests and generally do not rent when we are not at home unless we have repeat guests. We are occasionally in the shared TV room but try to be out of there by 10 PM. We encourage you to tell us your needs and to ask questions to insure a pleasant stay. Guests have been known to enjoy my husband's guitar and to see a few of his magic tricks. We both like to chat but respect the guest's privacy. We do not go into the guest room when the room is rented unless a guest requests something.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is very safe for taking a walk or going to the bakery, Pub, library, pizza shop, Chinese food, laundromat, church, library, tiny museum, or bus stop. We are in the Belchertown Historic District.

Getting around

Please see the five college/UMASS bus schedule online to see the latest routes and schedules. The bus stop is a very short walk from the house. Please note that the bus runs less frequently when the colleges are not in session. There are no taxis. Valley Transportation is a good company for rides to and from the airport or train. Rental cars are available in Amherst about 15 minutes away and on the bus line and sometimes deliver. If we are going out, we are happy to drop you off or pick you up when mutually convenient.

Other Things to Note

Plenty of off street parking. If you have a high vehicle such as a U-Haul, please talk with us, since special arrangements are needed to avoid our overhanging roof.

Please note that airbnb, com policy requires that the person making the reservation be at least one of the people staying here during the reservation. If you have interested friends or family, please encourage them to register with airbnb, com.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Belchertown, a quaint, relaxing New England town. Not to mention the lovely experience with Chris and Fran. Both were so kind and friendly and couldn't do enough to accommodate us. Just as an example, we had left their home and about an hour later realized we left behind an important brief case. We were planning to go back, but Fran insisted on bringing the brief case to us 1/2 way! Their Victorian home is definitely full of "charm" as well as the back yard so relaxing. Both Chris and Fran extremely interesting people as we chatted one night to learn that Fran is a professional guitar musician, teacher and guitar maker! Yes, then out comes the beautiful guitar he made and plays for us... Chris, not only a talented, sweet mother but has camped all over the US even by herself!

  • We stayed for a night at Chris' place. It was very comfortable. They are nice people, and provided us everything we needed. We also had some nice conversations as well as enough privacy. Very well balanced. I hope to stay again when I visit the area again.

  • On a recent college search trip to Massachusetts, my son and I enjoyed immensely our stay at Chris and Fran's beautiful homey Victorian house. Chris and Fran were warm and welcoming and our private room was comfortable and charming. Chris was very accommodating with our schedule and any of our needs and we DEFINITELY plan to return, hopefully for a longer stay. I highly recommend Laid Back Victorian Charm Airbnb for any of your lodging needs in the Amherst area. It totally beats your run of the hotel ANYTIME!

  • My wife and I enjoyed our three night stay. This charming Victorian was our jumping off home for visits to Mystic Seaport, Sturbridge Village and the Norm Rockwell museum. Chris and Fran were extremely welcoming and suggested some wonderful places to eat. Bryan and Sue.

  • Chris and Fran are friendly, welcoming, lovely people. I came here without a car, and they offered to take me wherever I needed to go. Fran even took me to the airport when I left, such a luxury.
They invited me to have dinner with them on Memorial Day, and I felt safe, included and very welcome with them. I was also offered coffee, cake and cereal. The room is nice and spacious, everything is clean, and the wi-fi works perfectly - if you're considering to book a few nights with Chris and Fran, don't hesitate to do so.

  • We rented the room at Chris&Fran home to be close to the Brimfield fair. Not only it was perfectly located but the house itself is so nice, the room is perfect and Chris&Fran are magic hosts. Magic is the right word (you will discover why going there!)!!!! They are attentive, kind, very interesting people with a lot to tell. We enjoy the time we spent with them and we regret it was not enough due to our busy time with the fair.
The pub walking distance from the house is very nice with an outdoor deck. Food not exciting but the atmosphere is perfect. Live Music, always crowded, laughing people.
We'll be back for sure to Chirs&Fran house!!!

  • We have been driving by this lovely home during the 4 years that our son was at Umass Amherst, so we were surprised and pleased to know that we would be staying here during Commencement Weekend. Fran and Chris were wonderful hosts; helpful and interesting to chat with. Our room was comfortable, private, well stocked with amenities and had easy access to the parking area. We would be happy to stay here again and to recommend it to others.

  • My husband and I were very impressed with this Victorian airbnb. Chris and her husband Fran are very welcoming, friendly and as little time we have spent with them, totally fun people. We look forward to going back to stay with them in the near future. We highly recommend staying here especially if you like comfortable, old places with a lot of charms, it feels really good! Antioch, UMASS, Cambridge College
healthcare administration and consulting, Creative Journal Expressive Arts certified instructor and Visioning coach
I am a 63 year old semi-retired hospital administrator currently working in consulting and education. I am also a certified Creative Journal Expressive Arts instructor specializing in combining journaling, meditation and collaging to purse ones life goals. My magician husband, musician and photographer and I live in a 200 year old home in a New England town of about 15,000 people. My travel usually includes him or my adult daughter who lives in the Boston area. His daughter and our granddaughter live nearby and he has a son in Vegas. I like the expressive arts, drum circles, zoos, crafts, and word games. My favorite travel has been to Thailand and South Africa. My husband has traveled to Thailand and neighboring countries and once lived in Denmark. He loves magic, music and photography. Our experiences have included luxury hotels and minimalist camping, both of which I enjoy. Our food tastes are eclectic. When traveling we prefer a clean, safe spot; share well and enjoy meeting people. I do have a loud laugh and find humor in most situations. We like to think of ourselves as considerate guests. We are open to making a new friend or simply leaving our guests to their privacy at their discretion. Meeting guests is almost as much fun as staying at new places. We have been hosting for about a year and have had quests from throughout the US, Germany, Canada, Israel, and Japan. In my early life I wanted to be a cultural anthropologist so perhaps I'm just returning to my true self. If you have an interest in a magic or guitar lesson from my husband while traveling, just let us know. I am also happy to arrange private creative journal coaching when my schedule permits..
