Beachy bed, breakfast and bikes!
We're in a prime location on the Ballona Creek bike trail, just minutes from Playa Del Rey, Marina Del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica and Silicon Beach.
Live like a local!
As seen in http://www.airbnb.com/wishlists/secret-gardens and Edible Westside Magazine.
We don't mind last-minute bookings, and if we can accommodate you we will and a delicious breakfast is always included! We're now accepting Instant Book reservations; please read the entire description before you decide to book us!
PLEASE, BEFORE YOU INQUIRE: If you're new to Airbnb and have no feedback you'll need a fully-developed and verified profile. Everyone needs a clear, current and identifiable picture (it's best if you're a couple to have a pic of you both). Also, If you're traveling with someone, we need to know who they are and a little about them as well. Hey, it's our home.
Alors, Johnny parle un excellent français y habla OK español (para un chico blanco). Mark taler perfekt dansk, og OK norsk. Wir sprechen OK deutsche.
We have 2 guest rooms in our designer solar-powered eco-friendly house in Del Rey, close to Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey, Venice and and Santa Monica, both with a river view and you'll also be able to see Santa Monica, the Marina, Century City and the Mountains. If you need both rooms (we can handle up to 5 in a pinch), please be sure both are available (here's the link to our other room: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/593991 ). Both guest rooms share a full bath upstairs and a 1/2 bath downstairs.
This listing is for our larger guest room with a comfy queen bed for 2 (152.4 cm x 203.2 cm). Pricing is for one person per night; an additional person is $20 per night and weekends are slightly higher.
You'll enjoy a REAL complimentary seasonal vegan breakfast for you both with coffee, tea and juice, and which often includes avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, melon, cream "cheez," hummus, bagels, breads (often homemade), an assortment of jams and fresh fruit.
We're in a safe, upscale residential neighborhood, so you'll have the most fun if you drive and have a car. We can sometimes help out with transport if our schedules allow, or you can walk to the bus, but seriously: it's LA and public transport really sucks. RENT A CAR. We have parking in our driveway if your car doesn't leak oil (if it does you'll need to park around the corner as there is no street parking on our street overnight).
We're right across the creek from the famous Ballona Creek Bike Path and it's an easy, fun ride to the beaches at Playa del Rey, Venice, Marina del Rey and Santa Monica and we have 2 beach cruiser bikes to loan (you'll need to provide your own safety gear (so please bring it with you) and sign a release before you take the bikes out).
Check-in is 3 pm and check-out time is 12 noon but these times are flexible within reason; we'll try our best to accommodate you. The rooms share a full bath with nice products and cushy towels. You'll get a seasonal vegan continental breakfast, super-fast wi-fi, access to light use of a printer, premium streaming TV (HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Amazon and over 300 channels), laundry and the use of our beach cruisers all at no additional charge. We're in Del Rey, super-close to the beaches, Venice and easy access to all attractions in Los Angeles, 5 minutes to Playa del Rey and less than 15 minutes to LAX (it's a $25 cab ride).
You're also welcome to cook meals yourselves if you like, as we have a pretty large kitchen--sometimes we cook with guests and eat together family style--but whatever works for you. We even have a second BBQ for our non-vegan guests. And don't worry: we're non-judgy, non-preachy vegans, and if it's cocktail night and you're around we'd love you to join us.
Not in the mood to cook? Want to stay in for dinner? Let us take care of everything and have family dinner and drinks with us and experience Johnny's amazing vegan cuisine (if our schedule allows). To cover our costs we ask $15 for dinner only and $20 for dinner and cocktails/wine/digestifs.
We have 2 well-behaved dogs: Sigi, our senior (who we adopted from Robert DeNiro, believe it or not), and Wolfgang, our goofy 4 year-old. They are a part of our family, so please love dogs. As we already have 2 dogs, please, NO PETS, (we've tried it and visiting animals are just too confusing for them).
If you smoke feel free to smoke outside, just not in the house, please.
We are very fortunate to live in a beautiful area with great weather. We love to show people why we love LA. Our house is your house. Hang out by the fire bowl and swap stories, pick some tiny heirloom strawberries in our front yard organic urban farm or just do your morning emails or read the LA Times with the tinkle of our pond in the background.
If we're booked please check with our neighbor Dee who's literally across the street; she can handle parties up to 7 and will consider stays of 1 month or more. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/564078
It was awesome to stay at Johnny & Mark's for the second time. Their home and hospitality enhanced my LA visit, which was a wonderful primer before moving to Manhattan. LA wouldn't be the same without them. I will miss wolfgang very very much, and Sigi's signature fa*t; as well as a lazy afternoon in the garden with some fresh strawberries.
My daughter and I stayed with Johnny and Mark for 3 days on a quick Spring Break trip to LA. It was my first experience staying in a room of a house and it was like staying with people I've known my whole life. Johnny and Mark make you feel very welcome and comfortable and they are super fun and interesting to talk to. They give you great suggestions on things to do and see in the area. The breakfast spread in the morning is awesome and their dogs are just the best! We wished we could stay longer and missed being there immediately after leaving. We will definitely stay with them again and hope it will be soon!
Wow this was truly a great experience! Johnny and Mark are great host and have a beautiful house in an amazing location. I would highly recommend staying with them! They really make you feel at home.
Johnny and Mark are great hosts. The house is clean and cozy. I highly recommend!
Johnny and Mark are our new best friends!!! They're absolutely charming and the best hosts ever. Kind, gracious, with great taste, we're so fortunate to have been embraced by them!
Johnny and Mark are wonderful hosts! I felt like I was at home. I enjoyed spending my mornings in their lovely garden. The room I stayed in was lovely, very comfortable and plenty of closet space. Every morning they served a wonderful breakfast spread. In would highly recommend staying with them. They are so friendly and helpful and give great tips for things to see and do around the area.
I would definitely stay with them again :)
My one night stay with Johnny & Mark was a delightful experience, Johnny and the dogs Sigi and Deiter (so sweet and friendly) were extremely welcoming and considerate as a host upon my arrival after a business conference. We shared great conversation and dinner over some tv, a wonderful and unexpected way to relax on my last night in LA. The house is beautifully decorated exactly how described in photos, if you are an antique and art fan this will not disappoint. The backyard is so zen and peaceful, great to enjoy a cup of morning coffee on. The guest room was wonderfully clean, comfortable, quiet and I had such a restful sleep, to be offered a healthy and filling breakfast the next morning. While I only briefly interacted with Mark, he was a gracious host and also very friendly. Such a lovely stay and will definitely look forward to passing through again :)
The other reviews are all (email hidden)ese guys are truly gems! They deserve the 5 stars....plus!
They welcomed us so graciously when we arrived. They gave us a tour and orientation to the house and area. They let us use their awesome bikes to bike down to the beach...with good instructions and directions! So fun!
After a lovely dinner out (with their recommendations), we headed back home. When we arrived, they were having an impromptu taco party and invited us to join them for drinks. Sadly, we were too tired and had to retire to our room to rest and sleep. Hopefully, next time!
Bed? Very comfy.
TV? Netflix and the works
Privacy? Not bad at all! I was a little leery of a shared home/bathroom (with other guest). We had only done airbnb stays where we had the entire home to ourselves, but they handled in such a way that was not uncomfortable for us at all.
Dogs? Very cute and not obnoxious.
Art? I could have looked at all their painting for hours....really cool if you love art.
The next morning they left out a lovely, vegan breakfast that we could eat at our leisure.
My husband made this comment (since we are also airbnb hosts):
"I keep looking for something they could do better and I can't find anything". He especially loved the details like all the trays in the bedroom for the "stuff" in his pocket, the luggage racks, the way the towels where hung on hangers....
The only regret....we could not stay another couple nights...we hope to be back :-).
We had a wonderful time in LA and Del Rey. When we arrived we were welcomed by Johnny, Mark (and the dogs) who gave us a good overview of the city and a tour of the beautiful house / our room. We can't emphasise enough what an amazing space this is. Spotless and really nicely designed. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Thank you cool guys, Matthias & Nicole
A very very very nice and warming place !
Des hôtes parfaits, tout est très bien organisé, la chambre confortable, le petit déjeuner (végétarien) délicieux et très copieux. Johnny et Mark ont été aux petits soins avec nous. Un endroit très accueillant, difficile à quitter !
